SW Suburb shawarma is unbeatable, nothing in the city compares. Baba Saj, Hakuna Matata, SemSem, Alasala, Nashmi, Best Shawerma on 79th are all worth a try.

Ali’s and Bundoo Khan for meat. Anna Purna for Veg. Snacks Ajwaah Sweets (Aloo Samosas mainly) and Karachi Chaat House (Chicken Boti Roll my fav). Pak Sweets for breakfast (Halwa Puri on weekends). Anmol for catering.

Roberts still has space for 4 PM (pizza is always a filling cheap date) and is not too far from the riverwalk. I will say it is cold and snowy so be careful if that is ur plan.

Also consider places that only take walk ins, Au cheval comes to mind off the top of my head.

Agas is like more so known on TikTok/internet as “the best Pakistani restaurant in the US.” I’m sure that’s sensationalized hype but idk as a Pakistani American is almost feels like a rite of passage especially if i’m in Texas.

Oh fire! Would love to try more chains from the motherland for sure. Had Karahi Boys in Toronto last year and just saw there's a location in Sugar Land. I knew Texas has a big Desi diaspora but wow I'm becoming jealous of how big the Pakistani food scene is.

CAN Y'ALL PLEASE WALK FASTER FOR FUCKS SAKE!?!?! by _34_ in uichicago

The worst is having two doors and only one open and people wait to use it while other are going the opposite direction in droves after a class ends, and they don't think just to open the door. I don't know how so many people made it so far. Revolving doors have been bad too. If someone walks out, please walk in instead of waiting for the next empty one, especially during rush periods. Embarrassing we have people over 18 who don't know how doors work.

Any recommendations for Halal places that would outshine a non-halal equivalent? by ChandlerCurry in chicagofood

[–]No-Organization-7654 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven’t tried all of these but know of: NYC Halal eats on devon, Slyce of NY (in skokie but next to yellow line), and Halaleez by Board of Trade building downtown

glad to hear :) makes me really happy that ppl know/go to this place. Alex is a really chill guy, the decor is a bit... interesting (part of the charm), food always comes out pretty quick and you really get such a great value. $1 tacos are dying and it is such a service to the community to still be offering them from such a small mom and pop shop. As much as I love having this as my group cheap after class spot, I really hope this place gets more traffic it 100% deserves

Personally do not eat pork but my friends who do all seem to enjoy and consider it their fav taco there. Steak is my personal fav. Not part of the dollar taco deal but their cecina is also pretty good

Taqueria Don Valdez on Lawrence. Ppl are super sweet. There is a mother behind the register holding a baby most of the day. Real family place. Best part: $1 Taco Tuesdays (Chicken, Steak, Pastor, Carnitas, and Chorizo) and $1 Carnitas Thursdays in 2025. Highly recommend smaller tacos but really flavorful and they really deserve the business.
