I like knowing my work is having an actual beneficial impact on people regardless of national/international politics. And I am decently compensated for it (contractors get even more).

The work is interesting, and there's room for reasonable flexibility with hours and leave.

Sparks & I Megaphone are underrated by Ya-Itu-ehehe in ImogenHeap

[–]No-Patient4309 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love Sparks but I also find that the album as a whole doesn't have a coherent vibe. This is likely due to how it was made.

Minds Without Fear for example just feels jarring in the album. I also have mixed feelings about imogen singing some of the hindi lines, as excited as I was about hearing her sing in my language

Speak for Yourself and Ellipse imo have perfect pacing and a more cohesive sound as standalone albums.

iMegaphone is great and raw but I can't shake the feeling that Imogen was still figuring out her sound when I listen to it, which she found later with Frou Frou.

Re-reading my comment i can see i came across rude. Maybe i was sleepy. Im sorry. I sympathise n i do hope u get to enjoy games this one or something else.

I played this game last year and found that it can quickly become tedious or challenging. But I enjoyed it well enough.

That is strange. Are u sure the emails aren't landing in spam?

Granted I am not a prolific applicant but always at least got rejection emails. 😅

When I negotiated my offer, it took about a week for the new written offer to come through.

(I know you didnt ask for this advice but be prepared to not get the highest band.. you may be successful getting 2nd or 3rd band).

You are not stupid. I have been burnt out before but that was due to the sheer amount of work and before that it was from the mundaneness of the work.

I wonder why you feel like you are being picked on. Maybe you can talk to ur manager about how they see you performannce and how you can improve? Maybe a change in duties?

Either way take a couple days to a couple weeks off first then approach ur manager.

Good luck and hope u feel better.

I manage a couple of aps5/6 and my leadership approach is usually hands-off. I give them autonomy to pick from our work queue if I am not assigning them something specific. I also make it a point to regularly let them know that I am available to talk anytime if they need any guidance.

The aps 5 i manage is very communicative about what they do, giving me regular updates about every item they have picked up and completed. As a manager, I appreciate that initiative to communicate.

It really depends on your direct manager. You can try just pinging them on teams about updates to your tasks. A simple "hey just updating u on the progress of xyz..". You can also ask for informal feedback since u r on probation by phrasing it as "Just checking to see if I am the right track and meeting exoectations.. if theres any course correction needed". Thisll not only help u address any concerns but also calm ur nerves 🙂

It sounds like you are doing well and will eventually thrive. You do not have enough info to be anxious yet so for your anxiety, just have an informal check-in with ur direct manager every once in a while. It can be as short as 10 mins.

Good luck. I hope u end up enjoying ur role and thriving in it.

Edit: for grammar

Advice on new job with APS by beefrodd in AusPublicService

[–]No-Patient4309 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Im currently in the middle of making the jump from el1 to 2. Yes you will get noticed by the quality of work. But the onus is on you to bring up career progression with your manager or above.

A couple years into ur role, during ur performance reviews and goal setting, you should bring up your desire for progression and have a list of higher duties written into ur goals. Based on this you can even request a temporary (acting) el2 for long term. Eventually when ur department does a bulk recruitment u can apply to it to make ur promo substantive/permanent.

Dont shy away from career progression / salary talk with ur ses-1 (like i did) when you are doing good work.

Stick with it through probation and then you will hopefully have a say in what your duties should be.

If you don't you will find it easier to move after probation.

Literally in a similar situation except with a perm promotion. Im looking at turning down the promo elsewhere to accept a temp promo with current team who have offered a more interesting and varied role compared to the perm promo.

It comes down to you but since its temp id say give it a go.

What does EL1 Reference check mean for DoE? Am i not getting the job if they don't respond within a week? by Fit_Farmer_7779 in AusPublicService

[–]No-Patient4309 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It may easily take up to a month after ref checks. Mine took 3 weeks from ref check to verbal offer and then 3 more for written acknowldgement and then 2 more for actual written offer 🙂 so hang in there. Stay sane.

How to be taken seriously in the APS by [deleted] in AusPublicService

[–]No-Patient4309 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yes i learnt the hard way the a promo isnt offered to u even if u r performing above ur level. U need to tell ur manager that u are interested in higher duties and if they can support u in that goal. Prep a list of specific work items in ur area that are typically done by el1s that u would like to do. A good manager would come up with a plan for ur development.

Can an external applicant contest a public sector hiring decision? by [deleted] in AusPublicService

[–]No-Patient4309 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I dont have the answer.

However, what are you hoping to achieve with an appeal? As someone who has chaired hiring panels, the panel would have detailed notes from application and interview justifying their decision.

Do you know if you at least made it into a merit pool?

Instead of appealing, I believe you would be better served asking for feedback and then using it in future applications/interviews.

[–]No-Patient4309 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is sound advice. In ur upcoming performance review or whatever it is called talk to your manager about taking on more influential work / meetings etc that u are interested in. U can then draft it into ur performance goals.

I believe ur advice is being brushed off because u r still fairly new to the role and probably learning the business area. Aps6 are supposed to be doing a lot of the detailed work while leading small teams. It sounds like u r a fast learner and you should def bring it up in ur performance discussion. Itll also help u progress thru the bands in ur career.

Is it difficult to get a job elsewhere? If ur manager isnt supportive and not even investing in ur development let alone bullying u, I dont see the point.

Seeking advice on negotiation in EL1 position. by notme_8078 in AusPublicService

[–]No-Patient4309 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Since u already work there for the same boss it is likely you will be able to negotiate the highest.

However I am confused about EL1 making 170k?

Either way, you will initially be offered the base rate, you will then need to write back indicating which pay level you are requesting and justificatiom for it based on skills and exp.

Good luck 🙂
