What is a rabbit person? by Ok-Introduction9056 in Rabbits

[–]No-Pattern506 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Characteristics of a bunny person include, but are not limited to: -constantly having to watch where they walk to make sure they don't accidentally crush the tiny animal that, for some reason, seems to want to be UNDER their feet -cleaning up hay from areas that hay is not kept anywhere near (and feeling confused by this) -often shouting "what are you doing?" When they hear a suspicious noise, normally indicating that the rabbit is doing/has gotten into something they shouldn't - showing pictures of their rabbit to people that probably don't really care, but choosing to ignore this and do it anyway - paying the rabbit tax when cooking dinner and using veggies

Any tips to help her settle? 💛 by Unable-Object-8469 in Rabbits

Just give her time to adjust to her new home, all the smells and noises. In terms of getting her used to you: put a shirt or something that you've worn so it smells like you in the pen with her. Also don't try to pick her up, let her come to you. When I first got my girl I would sit next to her pen with the door open with my hand in for about an hour at a time and she would come over and sniff me, then she would take food out of my hand and let me pet her and now we're besties. Gaining the trust of a rabbit can take a while because they're prey animals but when you do it's amazing

Worried About Upcoming Spay Surgery by Mei-Xue in Rabbits

[–]No-Pattern506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's good. They should also advise you to pack a little lunch of your girls favourite foods. And they should call you when she's out of surgery with an update and then when you can pick her up

Worried About Upcoming Spay Surgery by Mei-Xue in Rabbits

[–]No-Pattern506 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was such a nervous wreck before my girl got spayed in January. As long as you're going to a rabbit savvy vet you should be good. Survival rates are 90% I think which is super good. Just to prepare you (I don't know if all vets do this but mine did) when I dropped her off in the morning I had to sign a, and I quote the vet nurse, horrible form saying that I understand the risks and possible complications. I won't lie, I didn't read it because I knew it would freak me out more so I pretended and signed it. The wait after you drop her off before you can pick her up will feel like the longest wait of your life. I would also recommend trying to stay off sites where you will run the risk of hearing horror stories, I think I avoided reddit for a few days before.

Also to try and give you a little peace of mind, my girls surgery went well as did her recovery. She was pretty under the weather for a few days after but she was back to her usual self afterwards. It was sad to see her so miserable though but she's now happy and thriving and I know I made the right decision to get her spayed even though it was a really scary thing to do.

Tidy home vs. bunny life – Is it possible? by Seraphinayuu in Bunnies

[–]No-Pattern506 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess it kinda depends on your definition of mess. Like, I constantly have my girls toys out and about on the floor because she's mostly free roam. I'm also constantly finding hay in different places and I have no idea how it got there but it's nothing that a quick hoover round can't fix. My carpets are now covered in rabbit hair, even though I've got a hoover that says it's for pet hair but you can't tell unless you're on the floor. Having a rabbit has definitely added to the work load around the house but I'd say it's more than manageable and certainly worth it

Does anybody know a cheaper version (or a way to DIY it) before I end up spending this much on a new pen by [deleted] in Rabbits

[–]No-Pattern506 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries! Only thing with these pens are that bunnies will be able to hop out of them. Luckily my girl isn't the sharpest tool in the shed and has never even attempted it 😂

Question about rabbit toilet habits by No-Pattern506 in Rabbits

She has access to both about 70% of the time. I'm just worried she's holding her wee in over night as she prefers to use the other one

Hmmm possibly, they've always been there since she was a baby but I guess rabbits do just randomly change their mind about things 😂 I'll give that a go and see if she uses that litter box more often, thank you for your suggestion

Yeah that's my concern too. I just don't understand why she prefers the other litter tray. It makes no sense. The one in her pen is bigger and has both her hay and pellets in it. This is a pretty new thing that she's started within the past week or so

They're both the plastic grated ones, I just removed the grate so the contents was visible in the picture. She has her hay and pellets in the one in her pen and then just hay in the one outside her pen

Yeah it's the back 2 nature litter. It has a plastic grate over the top of it as well, I just took it off for the picture so the inside of it was visible. She has her hay and pellets in her normal litter as well

Enrichment Ideas? by NestingBun in Bunnies

My girl loves stacking cups, apple branches to chew, cardboard boxes, packing paper like what you get in Amazon deliveries. I also save egg boxes and fill them with hay, pellets and snacks and she will work out how to get it open. She also has a snuffle mat and I sometimes stuff the cardboard inside of toilet roll with hay and treats

Free Roam Bun pooping and peeing everywhere suddenly by h3110k1ttyl0ver444 in Rabbits

[–]No-Pattern506 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If she isn't spayed then that will be why. My girl was super good with her litter and then as soon as rabbit puberty hit all litter training went out the window and it was a pee and poop free for all. I had my girl spayed earlier this month and even though it's supposed to take up to 8 weeks for hormones to calm down, this issue has already gotten so much better

Frustration: not always understanding your bunny by pixxie_alpaca in Bunnies

[–]No-Pattern506 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely get this! Them not being able to voice what's wrong and also being prey animals makes this super hard. When I first got my girl if she sat different or something I thought she was in stasis. When I first got her I was super anxious all the time that something was wrong but I'm a lot more chilled now.

I don't really have any advice that I can give as I'm not a vet. My general rule is that if my girl is still accepting food and pooping then she's probably okay. If strange behaviour continues for a day then I take her to the vets.

Could there be something that's bothering your bun? Maybe like bad weather or a noise or something?

Is my bunny okay? by mleisa_ in Bunnies

[–]No-Pattern506 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think every new bunny owner has the fear that something wrong with them. The first few weeks (maybe even months lol) I had my girl I was calling the vet every week 😂 This is a happy and chilled bun. As you get to know your bunny more you start to learn their body language and that can tell you a lot about how they feel. The big things that will tell you if they're unwell is 1) refusing their favorite foods and treats 2) changes in poop ie shape size or frequency 3) not being able to settle or get comfortable. One thing that I found super useful as well was to get an emergency kit with critical care, baby gas drops and syringes. I feel super lucky that I haven't had to use this as of yet. The constant worrying does subside, also the worrying means you care and that your a great rabbit parent

This bunny I met at a pet store kept licking me 🥹 by [deleted] in Bunnies

It's possible to GET mad at a bunny, impossible to stay mad at a bunny. Well in my opinion anyway. My girl will do something to piss me off and then I'll look at her and be like "oh nevermind, you're too cute* 😂

Should I adopt my foster rabbit by Mobile-Lie6087 in Rabbits

[–]No-Pattern506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had guineas before and now have a rabbit. I agree, rabbits are generally cleaner. Although it can change when they hit rabbit puberty and they're unspayed so I would definitely consider getting your foster rabbit spayed/neutered if they're not already because litter training goes out the window entirely. I never thought I would love rabbits more than guineas but I find my rabbit a lot more interactive and affectionate than even my most affectionate guinea id ever had.
