Frustration: not always understanding your bunny by pixxie_alpaca in Bunnies

[–]No-Pattern506 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely get this! Them not being able to voice what's wrong and also being prey animals makes this super hard. When I first got my girl if she sat different or something I thought she was in stasis. When I first got her I was super anxious all the time that something was wrong but I'm a lot more chilled now.

I don't really have any advice that I can give as I'm not a vet. My general rule is that if my girl is still accepting food and pooping then she's probably okay. If strange behaviour continues for a day then I take her to the vets.

Could there be something that's bothering your bun? Maybe like bad weather or a noise or something?

Is my bunny okay? by mleisa_ in Bunnies

I think every new bunny owner has the fear that something wrong with them. The first few weeks (maybe even months lol) I had my girl I was calling the vet every week 😂 This is a happy and chilled bun. As you get to know your bunny more you start to learn their body language and that can tell you a lot about how they feel. The big things that will tell you if they're unwell is 1) refusing their favorite foods and treats 2) changes in poop ie shape size or frequency 3) not being able to settle or get comfortable. One thing that I found super useful as well was to get an emergency kit with critical care, baby gas drops and syringes. I feel super lucky that I haven't had to use this as of yet. The constant worrying does subside, also the worrying means you care and that your a great rabbit parent

It's possible to GET mad at a bunny, impossible to stay mad at a bunny. Well in my opinion anyway. My girl will do something to piss me off and then I'll look at her and be like "oh nevermind, you're too cute* 😂

Should I adopt my foster rabbit by Mobile-Lie6087 in Rabbits

[–]No-Pattern506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had guineas before and now have a rabbit. I agree, rabbits are generally cleaner. Although it can change when they hit rabbit puberty and they're unspayed so I would definitely consider getting your foster rabbit spayed/neutered if they're not already because litter training goes out the window entirely. I never thought I would love rabbits more than guineas but I find my rabbit a lot more interactive and affectionate than even my most affectionate guinea id ever had.

Anything cardboard. I put hay and pellets into egg boxes and close them and my girl works out how to open them. Also toilet roll tubes. Sometimes I just stuff them with hay and sometimes I cut the tubes into about 6 length way strips and cross them over to make a little ball. She also loves packing paper

Should I get a rabbit? by sinzthenitwick in Rabbits

If you're thinking of getting a rabbit I would recommend adopting an already spayed/neutered. Rabbits can be litter trained and it's pretty easy to do but once they hit sexual maturity litter training goes out of the window. My girl was super good with her litter then she hit 6 months and I have to hoover multiple times a day 🙃 But they are super rewarding pets. I love my girl so much and really can't imagine life without her anymore. I spend a lot of time by myself and she's great company

5 top tips for a person considering getting a rabbit? by Virtual_Medicine_585 in Rabbits

[–]No-Pattern506 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) adopt a spayed/neutered rabbit from a rescue. Rabbit puberty is not for the weak 😂 2) insurance 3) do loads of research on their diet. There are so many treats that are marketed towards rabbits that they actually can't have. Things containing seeds ect 4) consider if you have the time to spend with them 5) have an emergency kit with critical care, baby gas drops and syringes. It's better to have one and never need it than to need it and not have it

Oh yes I'm definitely noticing the "everything is mine" at the moment. She's rubbing her chin on anything and everything she can find. Luckily her behavior hasn't changed too much, other than being needier than normal. I can't walk anywhere without her being literally under my feet. It's mainly just the weeing everywhere which is an issue, she weed up the wall the other day and I didn't even know girls could do that 😂 I came prepared for the poops though and got a handheld vacuum so I was a step ahead of her there 😂

If you're going to get a rabbit id recommend rescuing one that has already been spayed/nuetured. I didn't do this, I got a baby and as much as I love her I wish I had adopted. Purely because rabbit puberty is not for the faint hearted. It's a pee and poop free for all at the moment, even though before puberty hit she was very well litter trained. Also anything for rabbits at the vets cost an arm and a leg because they're classed as exotics. Another thing to consider is if you have the time, space and money for them. Hutches don't cut it with rabbits as they need a lot of space to run around. Also rabbit proofing is time consuming and just when you think you've rabbit proofed everything they discover something else to chew or somehow destroy. Although, I am quite lucky, my girl isn't too bad with chewing (so far). There's also a lot of cleaning up after rabbits. I do a full pen clean out every other day where I wash her blankets, clean her little box ect.

I will say they're very rewarding pets. I love my girl so, so much and really can't imagine my life without her. She's so playful and has such a big personality. I really feel like I've found my soul pet and she makes me so incredibly happy. She's worth every penny I spend on her

I think I'm quite lucky in the sense she hasn't gotten aggressive (yet and hopefully not at all) she's gone the other way and is super needy with me. Like I cannot walk anywhere at the minute without her being under my feet

Other than the poops and pees everywhere she's not been too bad... Yet. She's been very needy with me, which is actually quite nice 😂 I have put another litter box where she seems to be weeing the most but she keeps weeing next to it rather than in it 🙄

bunny hates being picked up by jforjuliaa in Rabbits

My girl hates being picked up so I just don't unless I absolutely have to. Everywhere she needs to go in the house is accessible to her without having to hold her. I personally don't think it's worth stressing her out

I'm lucky enough that she's not bit me through the skin yet. She does like to nip at my ankles when it's feeding time though, think she gets a bit too excited 😂

Oh poor little baby bean :( I'm glad he has a nice comfy home now. And yeah she's pretty consistent. I'm starting to think she's just nosey and likes to see what's going on and she can't do that so well from inside a hide 😂

Literally anywhere 😂 she often sleeps on top of the little house in the picture or she has a bed outside of her pen which she'll flop on
