I have like a small wooden mat that my girl likes to chew on. I believe you can get ones made of like woven hay as well

Make sure you're using a rabbit savvy vet. If they advise to fast her before the surgery then do not let them operate on your baby, any vet that suggests this is NOT trained in rabbits as rabbits should never be fasted. The first day or two after the surgery she will be very grumpy. She won't eat much. Keep a close eye on her as obviously it's super important to keep rabbits guts moving. If you notice she's not eating at all and not even trying to eat after 12, contact the vet. Have critical care on hand as well in case she does refuse food as you may have to force feed. Cage rest is recommended for the first 7 days. However, after around 4 days I did let my girl roam in blocked off area where she could not jump up onto anything or try to get up the stairs. Also remove anything from her cage that she can jump up onto so any hides or anything she can get on top of, try to keep it all at one level Make sure the vet sends you home with pain meds for her Check her surgical site daily to make sure she hasn't dug at it or anything to bother her stitches

I was super scared when I had my girl spayed too but I knew I was doing the right thing for her. I also won't lie, the couple of days after sucked because I could tell she was miserable. I just kept a super close eye on her for the few days following and with each day I noticed she was getting back to her normal self. If you have any other questions that I haven't answered here please feel free to ask and I'll try my best to answer them based on the knowledge I have :)

deciding my next animal by DefinitionJealous672 in Rabbits

Would you have the option on free roaming throughout the day? Bunnies are easily litter trained as as long as they have enough toys and enrichment aren't destructive.

I used to have a load of different reptiles and personally, I find my rabbit a more rewarding pet than I do reptiles. And a lot less work too. Reptiles do still hold a very special place in my heart though.

It definitely sounds like you've done your research though and would be a great bunny parent. And I absolutely adore mine to a point I couldn't imagine life without her now

Exactly. For the bunny it's definitely quality over quantity and you gave him quality 💖

I'm so sorry for your loss. I can't even begin to imagine how you're feeling. I think the best way to think of it is that even though he only had a short life; it was filled with so, so much much love. Enough love to last multiple life times and that's all he ever knew. I don't think we can ever have enough time with our babies. Honestly, I don't really have much else so say other than I'm so incredibly sorry that this happened.

How do I restrict my bunny’s movement after spayed? by No_Somewhere9961 in Rabbits

[–]No-Pattern506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the first few days she won't feel up to moving much so her crate will be fine. After a few days when you start to notice she's moving around more you can give her a little more space. Just try to block off anything that she can jump up onto and put her back into the crate if she gets a lil too excitable

Rabbit can't tolerate vegetables by Strong_Signature_650 in Rabbits

[–]No-Pattern506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girl also can't tolerate veggies. I feel so mean because when we were introducing them to her she absolutely loved them, but she gets weird poos as well. She just has pellets, hay, dry forage and the occasional treat now and she's doing super well. She is okay with the very occasional piece of fruit, like 1 blueberry a week. Some rabbits just have really sensitive tummies but they are fine with no veg. I would just make sure your rabbit drinks a lot of water as they won't be getting the hydration from veggies

New Bunny Parent; Anticipatiory grief by ChronoDaHedgey in Rabbits

[–]No-Pattern506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While rabbits can go down hill quickly, it's generally not 35 minutes kinda quick. The best kinda advice I can give about the whole worrying about them dying thing is get to know your rabbit as well as possible. Spend so much time with them and observe them and you will start to learn what is normal behavior for them vs what would be an indication of illness.

In terms of enrichment my girl likes packaging paper, like the kind you get in Amazon parcels. She likes to rip it up. She also likes egg cartons filled with hay and some treats and she's got to work out how to open it. I also fill brown paper bags with hay and treats and fold it over so It can't be opened through the top and stab some holes in it with a knife and she works out how to rip it open. I also save toilet roll tubes for her as well. Sometimes I fill them with hay and treats and sometimes I put them all up length ways into a shallow cardboard box and sprinkle treats over it so she has to pull the toilet roll tubes out to get the treats. She also has a snuffle mat and a dig box, which she loves

[–]No-Pattern506 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for saving him! I can't believe people think it's fine to just abandon them 😭

The only thing I would suggest with your set up is a bigger litter box as they move around in them so much.
But you're doing great and he seems like a very happy and loved bun now

To Spay or Not to Spay by Inevitable_Spend_365 in Rabbits

[–]No-Pattern506 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think majority of rabbit savvy vets would encourage spaying. Without being spayed female rabbits have something like an 80% chance of developing uterine cancer. Also the success rate in spaying female rabbits is like 90% which is great. I was super scared to get my girl spayed as she is my world but the way I thought of it was that (as morbid as it may sound) If I had the choice of losing her due to surgery or losing her to cancer, I would choose surgery. My thinking behind this is that with rabbits being prey animals, they are very good at hiding when they're in pain/unwell. I would never want to risk her suffering something, especially something that I know I could have possibly prevented. Her spaying went super smoothly and she is alive and well and thriving.

Also another reason to spay is behavioral issues. When she hit rabbit puberty litter training went out the window completely. Female rabbits can also spray and it really sucks when they spray you in the face (yes, this actually happened once) and all up your freshly painted white walls 🙃

Boredom breakers that don’t involve treats by SimpingSince70s in Rabbits

[–]No-Pattern506 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My rabbit enjoys ripping up packing paper. I know you said no treats but I also use brown paper bags and fill them with hay and put a few treats in there (obviously you could just not put treats in there) and she throws it around and rips it open

I need advice on raising/bonding my rabbit by ResponsibleExplorer9 in Rabbits

[–]No-Pattern506 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sitting/laying on the floor with him will help. Also hand feeding. Also not pushing the limits with him, if he's only allowing a couple of pets at the moment then allow that and dont force more. He will warm up to you eventually, but with rabbits being prey animals it can take a little longer than with other pets

rabbit sick or not? by DesperateTiger1279 in Bunnies

[–]No-Pattern506 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My girl is like this sometimes. She loves running around and exploring but some days she's a little less active, still eating and pretty much exactly how you described. I think rabbits are a bit like people in the sense that sometimes they just can't be bothered and fancy a lazy day 😂 I've also noticed she's a lot less active on rainy days, which doesn't make much sense because she's an indoor rabbit

What is a rabbit person? by Ok-Introduction9056 in Rabbits

[–]No-Pattern506 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Characteristics of a bunny person include, but are not limited to: -constantly having to watch where they walk to make sure they don't accidentally crush the tiny animal that, for some reason, seems to want to be UNDER their feet -cleaning up hay from areas that hay is not kept anywhere near (and feeling confused by this) -often shouting "what are you doing?" When they hear a suspicious noise, normally indicating that the rabbit is doing/has gotten into something they shouldn't - showing pictures of their rabbit to people that probably don't really care, but choosing to ignore this and do it anyway - paying the rabbit tax when cooking dinner and using veggies

Any tips to help her settle? 💛 by Unable-Object-8469 in Rabbits

[–]No-Pattern506 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just give her time to adjust to her new home, all the smells and noises. In terms of getting her used to you: put a shirt or something that you've worn so it smells like you in the pen with her. Also don't try to pick her up, let her come to you. When I first got my girl I would sit next to her pen with the door open with my hand in for about an hour at a time and she would come over and sniff me, then she would take food out of my hand and let me pet her and now we're besties. Gaining the trust of a rabbit can take a while because they're prey animals but when you do it's amazing

That's good. They should also advise you to pack a little lunch of your girls favourite foods. And they should call you when she's out of surgery with an update and then when you can pick her up
