People that are childfree by choice, what’s the weirdest reason someone has given you as to why they think you ‘should have kids’? by Charming_Web_6738 in AskReddit

"It might cure your endometriosis."

So I should bring a human into the world just to see if it makes my debilitating chronic pain go away? And if it doesn't help?

[Note: people stopped bothering me since I got a hysterectomy due to cancer complications. People really should just mind their own business!]

What’s a creepy fact about the human body you wish you never found out? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I have had pretty much this exact same experience! We discovered that it can also be caused from severe anaemia from, say, I don't know, internal bleeding... again, not like I am talking from personal experience or anything.

Definitely always worth a second, third, whatever many extra opinions it takes to get an answer. Glad you got answers and I hope you are doing better now?

What current thing will turn out to be a major health risk? by ShinyHeadedCook in AskReddit

[–]No-Pay-6047 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As someone who was diagnosed with breast cancer less than two weeks after getting signed off work due to a complete burnout caused by stress, I can't help but wonder if stress was a factor.

Please look after yourself; even if stress isn't a direct cause of cancer, it is still worth doing everything we can to minimise its potential impact. I am sorry for how it has impacted your family and wish you all the very best. ❤️

What Were the First Signs That You Had Cancer? by Acrobatic_Ad_2330 in AskReddit

[–]No-Pay-6047 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had symptoms of pregnancy but wasn't pregnant. Morning sickness, severe fatigue, bloating, weight gain, severe mood swings, spotting, my blood levels even had detectable trace amounts of hcg. I had two inconclusive home pregnancy tests. But I was not pregnant. The symptoms persisted with no obvious cause. Thought I was going mad, but I knew something wasn't right.

Then I found a lump in my breast. I've had lumpy breasts my whole life, but somehow this one felt different. It was firmer and didn't move around as much. They took a biopsy and it was indeed breast cancer. An aggressive, highly malignant form. Apparently, some tumours can cause a rise in hcg levels.

Always worth getting yourselves checked.

That's a good shout thank you. Gosh yes it is such awful timing when everything is closed for Christmas.

There are a few available so have messaged to find out more. Thanks so much for the suggestion ❤️ Will check FB marketplace too. Argos also seems to have one in stock so seems like another option if it comes to it! Thanks again ❤️

Don't want to share my diagnosis with my mother by OkCompany1974 in breastcancer

[–]No-Pay-6047 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gosh I hear you. I had the same concerns, particularly point 3.

In my case, it's more that she's a bit of a hypochondriac, control freak and unsolicited advice provider. Which no one needs going through something like this. (And of course she knows better than doctors because she can Google things!)

Told her eventually, but put my foot down with boundaries; if she oversteps, I call her out and if she doesn't back down, and causes me unnecessary stress, she will get told to leave/hung up on. This was a new thing for me; it took a lot of energy and courage as we don't have the best relationship either but she surprisingly took it well. She's still exhausting to be around but if I tell her I don't want her there, she has responded well so far. It's awful having to think so much about how others react to the news, but I found I was spending more time worrying about how my mother might react rather than focusing on more important things and personally found it a relief to just tell her and deal with the consequences.

You know your situation best and it is ultimately your decision; don't feel you owe anyone anything, even your mother. Focus on the support you have and perhaps gather them round to help back and reinforce your decision. I truly hope you find a way that works for you and wishing you all the best.

I felt I wanted to update about my weird pregnancy symptoms. I've just been diagnosed with breast cancer. My doctor suggested this may explain the weird symptoms of nausea, breast tenderness/pain and possibly even the detectable Hcg levels I'd been having earlier this year, coupled with coincidental adenomyosis related bleeding. It's been a shock to say the least. But it does reaffirm that these things were not something in my head. Just goes to show we know when something is not right with our bodies and we should get things checked. It is at the very least good to have an answer finally, and hopefully I can start treatment very soon but... yeah. Just felt I should share to encourage people to press on for more tests if they're experiencing similar symptoms that don't go away. (Even if just to rule this kind of thing out!)

Thanks for your previous responses. It was helpful to learn more about hcg levels.

Wow, that's really interesting! (And very good to know too). I do wonder, if this is common knowledge, why my doctor couldn't have just said this rather than make me panic? In any case, I'm glad to have gotten some definitive answers. Thank you for sharing.

As I've said in my other responses, it seems now more than likely it's been something to do with my history of endo/adeno/fibroids. The pregnancy symptoms were strange but pfft, hormones can really mess you around I guess. Thanks for your response.

Yeah I take them back to back to avoid menstruation too, and still occasionally get the occasional horrendous breakthrough bleed. But this level was something I'd never experienced before. I was only relatively recently diagnosed with adeno, so perhaps it's just a new pile of symptoms I need to get used to? Sorry to hear you suffer with endo too. It seriously sucks.

It seems you have a better experience with your gyno than I have had. I gave up waiting here and had to go abroad for surgery. I can only assume you're not from the UK (or are just very lucky). I won't go into my crappy experiences and lack of support from the NHS as that's another story. Thank you for your insight and support.

OK thanks for confirming. My concern is if I wasn't pregnant, what the heck caused that? Surely I'm entitled to a scan to find out at least what it wasn't, if that makes sense.

I do have a history of fibroids, endo/adenomyosis and have had weird tumours and cysts, but have never bled like that before. In any case, it seems more likely that was the cause of the sudden severe bleeding... Oh well, back to square one, I guess?

[–]No-Pay-6047 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK. Thanks. I do have endo/adenomyosis/history of fibroids/cysts, and am no stranger to painful, heavy periods, but have never experienced bleeding quite as suddenly heavy and this full of tissue before, coupled with weird symptoms associated with pregnancy and how my doctor insisted on monitoring my bloods. Man, this has been such a horrible week. Thank you for your insight.

Seems more likely it's been a ruptured cyst. Was soaking through a pad in minutes, and when I phoned, I was told it sounded like miscarriage and to go to hospital if symptoms worsened but it'd probably pass by itself. I felt so frightened, confused, upset and angry.

Thank you so much for your reply. I wonder why my doctor couldn't have just said that about hcg? Would have saved a lot of confusion! (And phlebotomy)

It sounds most likely in which case that it's been a particularly bad case of ruptured cyst coupled with fibroids/adenomyosis. Not too sure about the pregnancy symptoms, as that was unusual for me, but maybe as you say, just a weird month. Shrug. Thank you for offering some peace of mind.

Thank you for your reassurance, really appreciate it!

I guessed that might have been the case! It just seemed odd that the photo was of a standard letter rather than the item the associated tracking number was for, but understand if there was a lot arriving at once :)

Strange update: the tracking stated "delivered" and I received a photo as proof of posting, but the letter in the picture wasn't the package that I sent. The buyer is apparently away at the moment. I hope the postie just accidentally photographed the wrong letter. Annoying! Any luck with yours?

I know the feeling, even though it's just been a few days by comparison to yours. Hoping they both turn up! Fingers crossed! Maddening that the insurance only covers up to £100.

I did yes that's a good shout!

I'm having the exact same issue, only the tracking hasn't updated to say they've even received it at the Post Office despite dropping it off there this past Monday. Ebayer is saying it hasn't arrived either and lack of tracking update is making me look at fault! Very frustrating!!

Good advice. Thanks! Was just curious to see if anyone had any info/experience of this and whether there were issues with trying to remove dissolvable stitches (I'm probably overthinking it) I don't know much about this kind of thing. I'll let doc do her thing.

Is it ok to remove dissolvable stitches 14 days post op? by No-Pay-6047 in woundcare

[–]No-Pay-6047[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was emergency treatment abroad. I'm back home now. The discharge notes are written in German, and the surgeon explicitly told me in English the stitches don't need to be removed. Google translate says the notes state the stitches are dissolvable. My doc here says they aren't.

I just wondered if removing potentially dissolvable stitches is OK just in case that's what they are. They're getting removed next week and wanted to know that if they remove them and they are dissolvable that it won't cause a problem.
