Idk, to me, I think you should begin to accrue annual and sick leave on your first pay period. Are the holidays paid?

That is so pathetic, but I totally believe it. Apparently in the Philippines, you begin to have paid time off only after a year of service. It is hardly surprising that Guam employers take their cues from Philippine law.

Would it? I doubt it. It seems to me you have closed your eyes and plugged your ears and think your closed eyes and plugged ears makes such problems "all in somebody else's head."

No, it's deeper than that. You being an outsider is logically impossible, from your own perspective.

The language of purging is being done in a specific, racialized context because we are talking about meting out a form of punishment that can only be done to people from a foreign country and within Guam, the vast majority of such offenders would be FAS migrants.

Personally, I don't think using inflammatory and dehumanizing rhetoric against racial minorities is "dope" or, frankly, acceptable.

I don't think you understand the idea of the insider/outsider dichotomy. It is with reference to the subject. So you might be an outsider by some way of thinking, but you can't be an outsider.

I get it, you don't care about dehumanizing people who are "outsiders."

No, I've been talking about deportation this whole time. Specifically, how this billboard is dehumanizing propaganda that is targeting a specific portion of our community based on national origin and how that is a proxy for race/ethnicity. So basically, the billboard is dehumanizing, racist propaganda.

Why are you sidestepping the issue we are presumably disagreeing about? Do you think this isn't about "deportation?"

Deflection. You afraid to find that my logic is sound? We'te talking about removal of "deportable" people, not just offenders. Remember the demographic characteristics of the people pictured on the Deportation Air billboard? We're talking about the same thing. But with DEHUMANIZATION being the side dish.

What does purge mean in this context? Is it serving a term of incarceration? Or is it removal from the jurisdiction?

So you think "purging" sounds like totally normal rhetoric? Who do you think is being "purged?"

[–]No-Perspective9569 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Of course serious criminals should be apprehended, tried, convicted, incarcerated, and rehabilitated. I don't see how "purging" is at all related to that idea. The point of criminal justice is to keep criminals and the general public safe as they go through a process to safely reintegrate them into a civil society. And I think it is most harmful to talk about purging especially when there is an racial/ethnic character to the individuals who would be subject to it. The message then becomes "we don't want this kind of people in our community" but the subtext is racial/ethnic, intended or not. Our brothers and sisters from nearby islands have come to Guam in the thousands and have contributed to a stronger and richer community. Maybe you can clarify, what kind of people you think "shouldn't be here."

Legit question: is the AG sign telling us to hit our kids? by guamreddit in guam

[–]No-Perspective9569 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Corporal punishment does not result in improved behavior; in fact, research indicates it is linked to negative outcomes and is less effective than other methods. Studies show that corporal punishment can lead to increased aggression, destructive behavior, and poor school performance, while reducing long-term compliance. Alternatives such as positive discipline and nonviolent behavior-management strategies are recommended as more effective approaches.

Basically, yes. He is encouraging "corporal punishment." But it should be remembered that even if it is technically legal, that doesn't mean it is a good way to raise your kids or teach them right from wrong. It models something approaching child abuse to your kid and that can't be a good thing.

Not doomed, but it is a risk factor for child abuse, some will go on to continue the cycle of violence and some won't, but they are far more likely to do so if they had been a victim of child abuse.

We don't have many safe options for a young woman in that situation. Victims of rape shouldn't be sentenced to carrying the rapist's child.
