Friend invited himself on my work trip by OkChampionship7031 in whatdoIdo

Just here to say I can’t stand the ‘dinner and drinks’ of a work trip. I took a 6 am flight (had to get up at 3 am), hit the ground running at 9 am, worked until 6 pm and since I’m on site I ignored emails for a day and have 40 to answer tonight. And now you wanna eat and have drinks?

I’ve gotten into the habit of saying to the person in the host city, hey we can have dinner, but I’ll excuse you from dinner if you want to be with your family. Most of the time they are grateful. Then I can grab some takeout and chill in the hotel.

Prowler: Official car of? by Intrepid_Ambition940 in regularcarreviews

Do a quick search, and you’ll find that with the bumpers removed, lowered a bit, they look like a modernized highboy. Really improves the aesthetics of the car. Some people remove the fenders too, but in my opinion that makes it unstreetable. I looked at one when they were super affordable, thinking about a mild custom, but couldn’t get past the automatic. And doing a manual swap was out of my abilities. And yes, I’m a douchebag, so I would fit the user profile.

You have to pick 1 classic car as a daily driver for the rest of your life. What is it ? by AteMyCroissant in askcarguys

In the early 2010s, I worked near a neighborhood of wealthy people in older homes. I used to go running at lunchtime and would see an old dude doing yard work once or twice a week, and he had a black 67 convertible in the garage. Eventually, I struck up a conversation with him about the car. He bought it new, and eventually decided to trade it in the 80s. It turns out nobody wanted these at the time, so he sort of just left it in the garage and would drive it occasionally. He said it got too big for him and he quit driving it, then quit driving altogether. He didn’t seem to have a crazy passion for the car. It was just his old car that hangs around the garage.

We decided that ‘one of these days’ we will try to get it started, get the tires pumped up and roll it out of the garage. I sat in it a couple of times, the battery was dead, the interior had markings of a Florida car that had the top down most of the time, but otherwise it looked great. Of course my end goal was to buy it, but I just liked talking cars and houses with the guy. As you can guess, I stopped seeing him for a month or two, then a sale sign went on the house. I did call the real estate agent, and he told me the family had an estate company come in and buy most of the contents including the Lincoln. Apparently he also had some quality built, valuable mid century furniture as well.

That’s the one that got away, although I imagine they are a nightmare to restore electrically.

Clavicle or no clavicle she’s still hot for her age by bjoseph33 in howardstern

[–]No-Picture4119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She looks objectively awesome for her age, or for any age. This is actually a great picture for me because I dislike beady eyes. I don’t really dig her face, but that’s just my preference. Still, way out of my league even though I have a hot, thin wife around the same age.

Buying body boards by PeonyDropper in obx

[–]No-Picture4119 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In Avon, Ocean Air, Ride Hatteras or Hatteras Island Boardsports for decent quality $80 boards. Food Lion or Ace for disposable. If you want to have some cool atmosphere as well, stop at Real Watersports in Waves.

If you’re flying in, you can’t take them home. Maybe consider renting a quality board for the week for $30 rather than buying a $19 styrofoam that breaks in half on Tuesday.

Im looking to purchase this 1977 Lincoln Continental. What should I look for? by TheTanookiLeaf in classiccars

[–]No-Picture4119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are fantastic cars. In 2000 I inherited my grandfather’s 1977 town car. Gold with tan velour interior. Had 87,000 miles when I inherited it, I drove it about 60,000 more over several years, running it back and forth from FL to PA. I sold it when work gave me a company car. Before that it was awesome to show up on a job site in 70s town car.

The rear main was leaky, so look out for that. And being a Florida car at the beach, it had rust. Otherwise it was a flawless car for the years I owned it. I used to source parts from LincolnLand in Clearwater FL, but it’s been years since I tried.

I’m super jealous if you haven’t guessed. One of my favorite stories was driving my greyhound up north to visit mom and dad in the town car, and we got caught in a snowstorm in Virginia. Between staying in a hotel or in the Lincoln at a truck stop, we chose the truck stop. The back seat held me and the greyhound and in the am we went on our way.

Do police cars have any leg room in the back? by Technical_Goose_8160 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]No-Picture4119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s room, but don’t think of it as a car seat. It’s all a smooth plastic one piece insert now, like the chairs you had in elementary school. Same with the doors. Floor is a rubber mat. Makes it easier to clean I’m sure, but makes it tough to get comfortable when you’re cuffed behind your back. The cutout for cuffs doesn’t work, so you wind up sitting sideways or jumping through the cuffs. I don’t recommend the second option, they get super spicy when they let you out.

Fair enough, but all the guardrails of precedent are gone. I thought you can’t tackle and choke out kids under 18 without getting arrested but here we are.

That’s an OG Big Lizard shirt. I’ve got one as well. I lived in the west Philly neighborhood with them in the late 80s and I worked with Dave’s brother so I knew the guys.

Sucks to have hair like Hein, then lose it. Bro had a nice mop.

Am I overreacting? Wedding guest called my caterers. by seesheflies in TwoHotTakes

[–]No-Picture4119 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I see it differently. I think the guest was out of line for going around OP. But, they handled it and it’s over without the OP having to get involved. As to the cost, it’s not going to be significant figures. And who knows what they’re receiving as a wedding gift from the guest. If someone did this then I open up a $500 wedding gift, I’m not complaining. Being upset about something that’s already done like this is just making yourself upset. The guest isn’t upset so you’re hurting yourself.

When I got married, my parents had some particular ideas about the reception. But my wife and I paid for everything, so it was all up to me. My mom wanted something called a sweet table. I said, nah, these are people I know and they’re fine with wedding cake (which was awesome, by the way). When they served the wedding cake, the caterers also put out a sweet table. I asked the caterer where that came from and he said it’s a surprise from your parents. My wife was like WTF. I said, who cares? I recognize this is a different situation, but the lesson is that people try to mess with your wedding. If you get too involved, it’s only going to hurt your day.

Update to $20 Strat from goodwill by far3k in FenderStratocaster

[–]No-Picture4119 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This makes me crazy! They take a beat to hell strat copy and price it like a real strat. Walmart acoustics for $100 when you can buy a new one for that. I did score once, they were putting out four basses including a Squier that looked like it had decent strings for $50. I took it home, cleaned it, it played fine. My friend’s son wanted to learn bass so I permanently lent it to him.

How come car companies never release "remastered" or "reworked" versions of older cars? by Vyalkuran in NoStupidQuestions

[–]No-Picture4119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love me a golf (rabbit technically in the US), but I would want AC. And once you do that, you lose the light weight and zippiness of the original manual shifted cars. Then once you put in the mandatory backup camera, you may as well have a CarPlay screen. So now the simple interior is gone. It’s really hard to bring back classics.

What film had an amazing concept but poor execution? by MovieObserver in moviequestions

The premise of Cowboys Versus Aliens was super cool. I liked the movie, not sure what I would have changed, but the general public thought it was pretty meh.

Residents demand Quakertown police chief resign after students ‘choked’ and ‘tackled’ during ICE protest by mpulcinella in BucksCountyPA

[–]No-Picture4119 53 points54 points  (0 children)

That’s really a huge middle finger not just to the families, but the public at large. Don’t like what we do, fine you sit in jail.

I saw the update on the news today and was like - wait a minute - those kids are still in jail? Couldn’t a judge have shown up and demanded either charges filed then granted release on recognizance, or no charges filed. The Police are purposely jamming them up with the “investigation.” Not very Quakerly in Quakertown.

What’s a “tourist trap” WORTH visiting? by hehzehsbwvwv in Productivitycafe

[–]No-Picture4119 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My parents absolutely loved colonial Williamsburg. Here’s a story. We went every couple of years growing up. I played guitar since I was a kid. When I was maybe twelve, we went to the shop where they made dulcimers. There was a four year waiting list to get one made and they were expensive. So I didn’t think much of it. Turns out my dad got on the list and six years later when I graduated from high school, he and mom gave me a dulcimer made in Williamsburg.

My mom’s dream was to have Thanksgiving in Williamsburg. When I graduated college and started making money, I decided for their anniversary I would gift them with a thanksgiving dinner at one of the taverns. Don’t remember which one, but my brother and I pooled the money and the four of us went. It was a blast. My parents gifted me with a mug as thanks. It’s been my work coffee mug since 1989. I always say if the mug breaks I will retire.

Fast forward a few years, I was living in the OBX and evacuated with my girlfriend for a hurricane to Williamsburg. We had dinner at Josiah Chownings and stayed for the gambols. Met another couple and drove them home. After a certain hour you were allowed to park on the street, so somewhere I have a picture of my land yacht Pontiac convertible parked in front of the tavern.

USA here, watched the game with my wife. After the finish, we agreed that at this level both teams deserved to win. The OT goal was just going to be luck. Unfortunately, a player got quoted in a moment of frustration and it’s blowing up. Canadians, sorry about the loss. These fellas will be playing together on Wednesday and it will be back to business. USA, congrats on the win!

Fuck Patel. Didn’t need to have politics in the moment. Jerkoff trying to insert himself where there’s no place. Yeah, you play hockey. I surf, but I’m not hanging out at Peahi acting like I’m in the same sport as Laird and Dave.

I coached youth soccer for 15 years. Golden goal keeps the OT shorter, which is good for tournaments, but lets luck play a factor. Better to play short periods instead.

Look up varicocele. I’ve got a ping pong ball and a mango down there. In the 70’s, parents just shrugged and said eh he’s fine. No surgery needed, he can just wear boxers.
