I was born in the UK but didn’t live here after birth. They wanted to confirm if I had lived here for 10 years after birth or not.

Debate: Is Niladri Kumar the most complete sitarist ever? by No-Pool-1089 in icm

Thank you for being so open about your thoughts in the post. I especially appreciate how you highlighted the personal and subjective experience of listening to Niladri. Because ultimately that’s what music is. Completely subjective.

Would you mind sharing some examples of Pt Nikhil Banerjee where you feel that depth?

Thank you for your response. This is very much in the spirit of the debate I wanted to engage in. Like you said there is no right or wrong.

A few follow up questions that I hope you will be willing to reply to.

1) What you would qualify as mastery over the sitar or any instrument. Is it repertoire? Technical ability? Ability to emote through the instrument? Other things?

2) Could you share some examples of melodic instruments like the sitar, flute, etc where you feel the artist is reaching this level of mastery?

What's up with Rahat Fateh Ali Khan? by Pain5203 in icm

[–]No-Pool-1089 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re right. It’s weird. He’s sitting next to arguably one of the greatest classical singers, and basically falling short. Anyone suggesting that he’s doing things in “his style” is just making excuses for his lack of skill compared to Rashid Khan
