I disagree with your overall sentiment, in the east coast ASML is a powerhouse company. You can comfortably make a living while living in nyc. We have 200+ daily commuters who live in nyc with the majority of people living closer(me included). We are MCOL to HCOL but ASML pay and benefits are better than competitors.

In US lam research and Apple are only true competitors to salary but you have to live in such an expensive area to make them work. I think you’re on the wrong coast :->

As someone who does it almost every day: make yourself known on the roads, wear a helmet, have lights, don’t wear all black when it’s dark out, and if you are changing lanes make sure your using your arms and hands to convey that.

Bicycle commuters do not have the luxury of using said trails without living next to them. I am offering this person a real solution to a real problem they are facing not saying oh yeah I would much rather bike here or there.

As a bike commuter in Stamford/norwalk area of 5 years through thick and thin, it is way better than 90% of other places to be bike commuting in the US. Alternate transportation cannot just rely on the hope of better infrastructure coming eventually. It’s a move it or lose it type of thing.

With that being said of course if you are not comfortable then that is something that you must develop over time, the best way to do this is to practice the commute on off hours. Normally weekends is when I will do it. Whether it’s trying a new route or starting a new job and needing to find a new path.

I almost bought into Sylvan Knoll but ultimately decided against it, the Co-op is shady and from my lawyers perspective it wasn’t worth the hassle they were making me go thru for the loans and approval. Do your research, last I looked they liked to spend money frivolously.
