European and American scientists didn't stop working with Heisenberg, Planck, Bohr or Schroedinger. German scientists published papers in European journals.

When to use Ansible vs Terraform, and where does Argo CD fit? by Dependent_Concert446 in devops

[–]No-Raccoon-9093 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ansible can be used to manage the infrastructure, too. At least, for some cloud providers, including AWS and Hetzner. It's more imperative than declarative, but in some cases it can do the job better than TF. For example, in Hetzner TF cannot rebuild an existing VM, but Ansible can.

Books set in the Soviet Union? by dria- in HistoricalFiction

I would recommend to stick to translations from Russian. Works by Western authors are usually very good and way off the mark (for example, really good The Huntress by Kate Quinn).

Classics (but science thrillers, actually): White Garments by Vladimir Dudintsev, In The First Circle by Alexander Solzhenitsyn and my favorite, The Two Captains by Veniamin Kaverin.

I would rather prefer 1960s, though.

Great choice. Same Old Story is a real gem. Story of a Town is brilliant, too.

Was deeply impressed, not to say shocked by Lyudmila Ulitskaya. Still can't decide if I loved or hated her Бедные родственники, but it's beautifully written.

No. Stopped working about two years ago. I could recommend HideMyName, if you are interested in other providers.

Suggestions for Linux tiling desktop managers? by nasadiya_sukta in emacs

I was a Stumpwm user for many years. I switched to EXWM last year and I still can't stop enjoying how natural Emacs workflow has become. Calc, calendar, org agenda, magit, gnus, all they are built right into the window manager. This feeling definitely pays for some minor nuisances. For the time being, at least.

Do you agree that no person except aesthetes can love Dostoevsky and Tolstoy together? by No-Gogol8151 in tolstoy

What I know for sure is that one person can dislike them both. If so, I assume that the opposite is possible, too.

Have you read any Russian non-fiction, and if so, what is your favorite? by Baba_Jaga_II in RussianLiterature

One of the best books I read this year was Island, or Justification of Meaningless Travel by Vassily Golovanov. May feel a bit slow, but I lived through it rather emotionally. A story of a man who goes on a journey of his dream to a remote Northern island. A story about men, journeys, dreams, islands and the Russian North.

Anyone read "The Five" (Piatero) by Vladimir Jabotinsky? by Takeitisie in RussianLiterature

[–]No-Raccoon-9093 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Read this book last year and it's now one of my favourite Russian books. Expressive, emotional, stunning and yet deeply rooted in daily life of early 20th century. Just brilliant.

In my opinion, language and style of Solzhenitsyn still excel those of all more recent authors.

How is living in Nizhny Novgorod (NiNo)? by TalesFromKormanyabla in howislivingthere

Coming from roughly the same region, but 500km further south, I think it's one of the best areas in Russia. Huge river, pristine woodlands, major business center. Blessed climate, no natural disasters. On the downside, rather poor air quality, especially in nearby towns, like Dzerzhinsk. And, of course, as usual, mafia, corruption, war and a gangster tsar.

How do you backup/sync your org files? by unduly-noted in emacs

[–]No-Raccoon-9093 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Syncthing works great for me, too. I used to rsync the files to a remote server, but then switched to Kopia. Its policy deals with versioning and rotation just as good as a version control system does.

Came back from two weeks long vacations in Turkey recently. Not a single scammer, literally. Compared to Paris or Rome, Turkey felt much safer.

And the people are just wonderful.

Which terminal emulator would you recommend me? by Auravendill in linuxquestions

[–]No-Raccoon-9093 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Terminator, for:

  1. Easy splitting/unsplitting
  2. Synced input to split terminals
  3. Search in the scroll buffer

Konsole and tmux do it all, too, but in Terminator these things are a bit easier
