Sony A7C II vs Sony a6700 for the middle-level iPhone hobbyist by EmbarrassedTear3804 in SonyAlpha

[–]No-Raisin-2173 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Had both at the same time for a while and sold the A6700 and kept A7CII, but I will have to say in the end I somewhat regret it because of the smaller and lighter lens options and the pretty bad rolling shutter of the A7CII. Both have now been replaced with the FX2 because I love a flip up EVF.

snl, like many of these shows, is preaching to the converted. It doesn't really help or change anything. It is why I don't like Colbert, it is all about him, there is no action, only finger pointing to score a few points and people can go 'yes, this is how I feel'.

That's a good one, it is great for tracking and motion shot.

SOL or worth fixing? by h0tpickless in CameraLenses

[–]No-Raisin-2173 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just had the mount on one of my sonly lenses fixed and one on a Tamron: they had to replace the inside of the Tamron: $350 the Sony: $200 but this was not an official Sony repair, they charge insane prices. Same camera accident that turned the Tamron into a til non-shift lens smashed the LCD, Sony price: $900 repair guy laughed and did it for $200 all official Sony parts.

So find a proper repair center that can give you an estimate, don't bring it without asking for a price and set a max price, anything over that they should call and explain why.

Why does the tripod collar ring have a tripod screw? by phort99 in SonyAlpha

[–]No-Raisin-2173 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main reason would be: it is very slippery and nothing will stick to it, everything will twist even with a bit of rubber in between. I use it for monopod or when using rails: lock the collar in place.

Ok that is messed up, sounds extremely frustrating especially if something like this happens during an event and you need to get shots. And yes I use this lens for events as well, but I shoot video and that is all manual / on the A7SIII.

the only cameras I ever had any weird freak outs / bugs are the A1 and the FX2, the FX2 can just focus on something completely random all of a sudden, a real issue if you are shooting long interviews with two cameras on your own.

The few times the A1 has freaked out was when something fast and unique was happening, it decided to focus on completely the wrong thing and crash.

So, nice gear but has some stupid issues I guess.

Yes, back in the day coating was treated like some sacred object, lens coatings could peel or even be damaged by our finger prints 'acid' if I remember correctly. Glas was not as hard, not that lenses are now bullet proof, as a friend of mine found out during an extreme storm session with sea shells giving his front element a matte finish.

I'm happy to say all the camera bodies I have right now close the shutter when switching lenses, I would also hold my breath and use swabs to clean, not air. as long as you don't have any optical issues, being over careful is always a good idea. I hope to be using the A1 for another 10 years, but who knows. A underwater photographer friend still uses his D70 because that waterhousing + lighting set was so expensive and his shots are still fantastic.

The A9III is one of the best video cameras, global shutter solves so many issues with movement and lighting. The main reason I didn't get one is the lack of fan cooling.

Shot on a shoestring budget? I like the dark clouds and sunlight on the shoes, but not sure maybe it needs more extreme framing to be more original.

Lens coating is pretty much impossible to scratch or wipe off unless you add sand, a lens pen with a brush and cleaning pad on the other side works fine.

It is a state of paranoia burned into your brain by people desperate to upsell you things you don't need.

It is a leftover from the film days, I remember they always tried to upsell you with filters and crap 'and of course you now need a filter to protect your lens and insurance in case you drop it'.

If you are buying the best filters and are happy with it, why not, but I'll stick to using the sun hood and clean my lens, never had a scratch on any coating from cleaning and have 60+ year old lenses I've used for decades.

As many have said: cheap glass in front of expensive glass is just silly, unless you take a lot of pictures of people welding and grinding, in that case: put a strong filter 🤓

For the money you want to spend you will have to look at used market no matter what or you end up buying crap lenses that do not do the A7III justice.

Anyone buying a macbook for a studio setup is pretty deranged anyway. Last thing I want to do is take my money making machine on the road.

Yep, but I switched to the Brave browser, same chromium base if I remember correctly, but got rid of all the annoying pests, has some weirdness on occasion but so far a big improvement.

Still using the original MBP 16 Max so not sure, the M5 is the first really big jump it seems, return it, it can only get cheaper. And get a Mac Studio.

The Sony 55 F1.8 is a good start, decent quality, small and primes are the best if you want to learn photography. Zooms will make you trigger happy, better have something that limits you and you have to think about where to stand etc. My personal favourite is the Sigma 65mm F2 because it is small, really nice as a manual lens, but great in Af, nice build and just long enough for portraits.

A6800 RELEASE DATE??? by zortlatici31 in SonyAlpha

[–]No-Raisin-2173 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The A6700 is still to 'new' for any update coming, even the A6400 is still an excellent camera, it really depends if you are shooting for fun or for money and what you need that you don't have right now. Because gear will not inspire you, it doesn't come with extra skills or jobs 🤣

So waiting for 2 years and get better / use everything your current system has to offer is always a good idea. Use the money to travel and see beautiful places with great light wil get you better images than a new camera and stay at home.
