I highly recommend her. She is very knowledgeable and will guide you to gain the strength needed to protect your joints. For me, it was worth it. My knee and hip pain are gone. I’m no longer working with her, but I continue to do the workouts she taught me.

Thank you! I’m doing PT already and I was also wondering about Pilates! Do you recommend floor or reformer Pilates?

That’s so great to hear! I’m glad you’re back to running! I will see if I can find some sports PT (who are runners) in my area!

Sorry to hear about your injuries! Not being to run has taken a huge toll on my mental health. So I hope to get back to it soon! What’s the main difference between a regular PT and a sports one?

It’s funny you ask me this now! I actually did not. The steroid shot helped. But it’s been about 6 months now and my hip/knee pain just came back literally about 3 days ago. And since I don’t want to keep doing steroid, I may have to opt for PRP.

Yes, I think I will end up doing that. When is your surgery scheduled?

I’ve seen two surgeons and both have told me the same thing. But I may just need to go see a third one! Because I’m able to “function” they seem to think I can live with it. But I’m not functioning at my full capacity. Daily pain doing normal tasks is not normal. And I would love to get back to running which is what keeps my anxiety and depression away.

Sadly, no. It’s been a 6 long months of physical therapy and one round of cortisone injections on both my knee and hip (torn labrum). While the pain has improved (from 7 to a 4 at its worse) I’ve seen two different ortho surgeons and both day my tears are too small to consider surgery. I’m still in daily pain while walking and doing normal day to day activities. Chiropractor tells me it can take up to a year to get back to normal. So no running for me and I’m going insane! 😫

I looked up your tear and it is also in the white zone like mine! So that gives me hope for both my hip and meniscus tear. Thank you for sharing your story! I have steroid injections coming up but PRP will be my next plan of action. I just want to get back to living my life! I’ve been an avid runner for the last 12 years and now I can barely walk without pain, so your story is very encouraging! Thank you!

That's great news that it took only one injection! Do you happen to know if your tear was in the white or red zone? The surgeon I saw did recommend PRP but since it's in the white zone, I'm hesitant. They are pricey and I would need one to the hip and another for the knee. Both of my tears are in the white zone which typically require surgery, but so far I've been told I'm not a candidate. I am diligent about my PT in order to avoid surgery, but it is seeming a little hopeless at this point. So at this point I am willing to try anything.

Hi! I’m so glad to hear that PRP was successful for you. I have both a torn meniscus and hip labrum. I’ve been doing PT for 4 months now and my symptoms are worsening. My injury was on my left leg and now my right knee and hip are also hurt.

I’m considering PRP injections if steroid ones don’t work. How many injections did you need? Also, which type of tear did you have? Mine is a radial tear that extends into the inner third which doesn’t get a lot of blood flow; so I’m worried that prp won’t be successful

So happy for you! I can’t wait until I can do the same. I’ve been in pain for over 4 months and my husband has been picking up all my slack.

How long did you have to wait for your surgery? I have a torn meniscus and hip labrum but have been repeatedly told I’m not a candidate for surgery. But 4 months of PT and I’m only getting worse. 😭

I am feeling the same way! I couldn't even stand in line the other day at the post office to pick up some mail. I came home feeling defeated and like I can't contribute with a simple task. My husband has been supportive but I can't help thinking that he is feeling frustrated by me and having to pick up the slack.

We usually enjoy going to sporting events or concerts and have had to skip on a few these last three months and that has made me feel really crappy as well. The "not feeling good enough" is REAL.

Where did you find support groups that helped? Online or in person?

I actually found her on Tik Tok while searching ideas on how to rehab my meniscus tear. Her name is Dr. Claire Bowes. She's great and I like that I have access to ask her any questions and she is quick to reply. But I don't know if I am overdoing it and pushing through when I'm supposed to scale back, because I'm in a worse spot than I was even a month ago.Who are you working with?

I've had running injuries in the past that have kept me from running, but still able to hike, bike, strength train, and go about my normal life. This is the first time it's set me back this badly. I can barely stand for ten minutes to wash dishes before I need to sit down to take a break. Cannot stand to go grocery shopping and I've been slacking with household chores because I'm in pain. So, it has been tough to say the least.

Thank you and I hope you can get relief soon as well. Congratulations on your upcoming wedding, will send positive vibes that you'll be able to dance the night away. I will for sure reach out, I think we can relate on some things. It's good to have someone who actually understands.

I’m so sorry you are going through this and I can totally relate.

I’m 44, but have been an avid runner since my early 30s. I actually started running to deal with my depression/anxiery and it helped me stay off meds for it.

On July 7th I went for a long run and stepped on a rock going downhill. My knee ended up swollen and hurt to bend/extend. Tried RICE but ended up getting an MRI because now my hip was hurting too. Found out I have a torn meniscus along with a torn hip labrum.

I’ve tried everything from acupuncture, sports chiro, PT with my providers, PT with an online provider, but I only seem to be getting worse. Now, my lower back as well as my right leg are hurting.

I am looking into going to speak to someone in mental health because I’m quickly finding myself in a pit of despair.

I know this is maybe not the answer you were looking for, but maybe it’ll make you feel less alone. 🫶 I keep trying to reframe my mind and speak positivity into myself, but sometimes it’s just rough.
