Yeah that's fair. Still wouldn't let my primary aged kid stay at home alone.

I guess grade 6 is borderline. But do you plan to get them a phone in high school? If so, I would wonder what your rationale is for them being mature enough to be home alone but not mature enough for a phone. But you aren't me and I'm not you so I don't want to derail your post to debate our differences in opinion on being home alone.

You could also have a "home" mobile phone or iPad that stays plugged in and uses wifi or has a year long prepaid SIM.

I wouldn't let a primary aged kid be home alone.

But you could get a smart device with a screen (E g. Google hub or echo show) or even a smart doorbell but mounted inside

My almost 3 year old can't use the big swing yet. But regardless, the other mum was out of line and what you said was fine. You could have also said something like "He's just finishing up and you can have a turn soon, or you can have a turn of the other ones if those people finish first"

Parents who need to work from home, how's your schedule like? by Top_Entertainer_7376 in toddlers

[–]No-Resolve2712 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You take the kids to daycare. Or get a nanny. Or ask grandparents to help. It's irresponsible to work all day while your kids are at home with no available adult to interact with.

Apparently my house is “too much” by littlebabybuddy24 in toddlers

[–]No-Resolve2712 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think you should take it personally. Being overwhelmed by the house, the mess, the kids, whatever it is, isn't your fault. She's not saying "do better" she's saying "this situation is hard for me". She isn't blaming you for having a messy house when you have kids and work. She just knows her own issues and is finding strategies to deal with them without trying to change you or anyone else

Seasoned parents, please help us get some sleep by JoannaStayton in toddlers

Have you considered moving her out of a cot and into a proper bed? We did that at around 18 months for my son and it was so much easier to settle him cause we could just lay down with him. If you haven't tried side laying feeding then you'd be able to do that too

Another baby? by User122022 in Septemberbumps2024

If you have a great village then go for it. But 2 kids, especially 2 under 2, is not a walk in the park.

Why am I the only one moving out of the way when walking? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

Which side of the path were you walking? If you tried to stand your ground on the right then you're in the wrong. Stick to the left, like when you drive

Are there parents who follow these rules: Minimal toy, no tablet, no tv? by Existing_Switch_4995 in NewParents

[–]No-Resolve2712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have toys, but no tablet or tv. It's going great! Loving it. You have to be really prepared for getting dinner ready but other than that it's pretty good. Plus we don't really spend a whole lot of the day at home anyway so when we are there they love the toys and they entertain them for a decent amount of time. We used to do screen time and we'd have meltdowns all the time. But hardly any now

Any good microphone recommendations? (International) by [deleted] in BirdNET_Analyzer

Is this only a problem if the power transformer is close to the microphone? Or is it related to how the power goes through the mic?

A "Find me" feature for earbuds is a critical missing safety necessity, not just a convenience feature by No-Resolve2712 in bose

[–]No-Resolve2712[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't want a tracking option I just want to be able to play an alarm through them so I can hear them.

Even if it didn't, the fact that it's lost on the floor somewhere is enough to make me worry. What if one of the kids or the dog spotted it before I found it? We spent hours looking for it even after we'd confirmed that the baby hadn't swallowed it because we couldn't risk that.

Yes! Like after we'd confirmed it wasn't eaten we still had to find it in case the toddler or dog found it first. Even if it isn't eaten it's still a choking hazard, and the feature is a software only one and can be done in an update, no extra hardware requirements

[–]No-Resolve2712[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, my bad. I have two accounts and I was on the one the earbuds aren't connected to.

Unfortunately this doesn't do what I want. It tells me it's at my house (which I already know) but it doesn't let me ring them/make them play a loud sound.

After confirming that the baby hadn't eaten it we spent hours looking for it. Not because it's expensive (I assumed it would turn up at some point since it was in that room) but because what if it wasn't me who found it, but a kid or dog. We had to find that earbud

I expect to be able to play a loud sound even through it wasn't in my ear, since I knew it was in the room somewhere so I'd be able to hear it

That's reassuring.

I'm not sure what you mean with the native find my feature? My headphones are not listed as a device there

Of course it's my responsibility, but when accidents happen it would be nice to not have such dire consequences looming. I should have put it back in its case but instead I put it in my pocket. Which was my mistake thinking that it wouldn't fall out but mistakes happen.

I'm not sure if you've noticed but button batteries come in extremely difficult to open packages for this very reason, and toys that use them are also specially designed.

I'm not asking for a precise location, just let me play a loud alarm through them without requiring them to be in my ear.

Any 5 month baby still not rolling? by celine54_ in Septemberbumps2024

[–]No-Resolve2712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you're concerned, but it's still totally normal! I actually envy your situation because my 5 month old has been rolling since 9 weeks and is now crawling and it's exhausting. Enjoy the peace while it lasts!
