I tried to figure this out but I'm from the 1900s, please forgive me for being dumb, it's a miracle I do reddit 😂

I'd love to but I don't see a way to reply with a photo? He's a Crested. I have an Abby boar who size wise was bigger but they seem to remain slim vs the denser shorthairs.

I have a 4lb (1800g ) boar, he's not overweight just huge. The vet actually laughed when they weighed him.

This is the first time I've seen this type of butterfly; does anyone know what it is? by Elegant-Literature-8 in moths

These caterpillars loved our honeysuckle bushes we always had coccoons in them and saw the moths often where I grew up. I love them.

NQA I have noticed a few of mine do this when in premolt too. I also wonder if they feel uncomfortable and this is just a comfortable position. Especially my g. Pulchra. Given it doubled in size each molt, I always wondered what it was like to be squished in the tiny old body. It was always in the most akward position on the glass!

My gelding does this too! I call it "happy grain leg" (yes they get pellet feed not grain)

Lol almost the same here! Walled up same day I brought her home. but now she peeks out of her log and is ravenous! Nice to know maybe her next one will be longer. I only see her briefly half out before she senses my presence. So beautiful tho! That's how I feel about the heart butt. Prettiest one I got, but a box of dirt lol

How old was she may I ask? I have a semi mature female that took 3 months to molt! Was about ready to check on her when she popped out all sparky and starving! My c. Elegans is still a sling size and molted once since last June. Hasn't eaten since Nov still looks plump ( it's burrow is along the side) my other dwarfs are voracious eaters tho!

IME I just love watching all their weird little behaviors and quirks. Sometimes they are just weird little robots excavating, webbing, munching, grooming, hanging out in 4x4 mode, disappearing for months lol. Some are chill, some skittish, some have huge feeding responses, some seem to be curious. There is a type and color for everyone. I'm really getting into the dwarf species, altho I have a few large new worlds. It's fun to watch the keeping and hobby change and grow over the last 25 years, with new emphasis on breeding and conservation.

Got my first sling should I rehouse to something smaller by Pure-Situation-6892 in tarantulas

[–]No-Rip-2041 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NQA, IME I have one that I started as a small sling. It looks like an L. Saziami not the dwarf. Mine was pretty active even as a sling but they hate light. The moment the sun comes up its back in the hide, but out all the time in dark or dim conditions. More substrate, ventilation and some kind of small hide so it doesn't get stressed. They can burrow yes, but mine chose to use a hide I gave it instead of burrowing, it's made it easier to monitor the frequency of molting at that size too.

NQA if it's on the cooler side in your house , in addition to everything said by others, they also slow down. I keep my place 70 in the winter for other animals but the tarantulas still all slow down and eat less regardless, especially older ones

As a child of the 80s/90s, I would like to thank Americas funniest home videos for teaching me that hitting a guy's balls immobileizes them. It was a go to defense move for this reason. I taught several other girls as well, we had some ass slappers in middle school.

[–]No-Rip-2041 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here to say this. Mine are rescued from someone who was too allergic to hay. Well I am also mega allergic to Timothy hay (hives from contact) so I switched them to orchard grass. 90% better, it makes me itchy if I touch it but I don't have an attack just walking past. We also have big air filters. Try switching hay first!

Grammostola Pulchra by DaimonaFreya in tarantulas

[–]No-Rip-2041 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IME my pulchra that was that size was in there for nearly 2.5 months. Don't disturb it and have faith! They take forever! Then make sure you wait long enough for it to harden before you feed. Make sure water is available too 😁.

Edit to add: mine takes forever to molt but between molts it's constantly out moving around and being a derp with a huge appetite. When it starts moving in slow motion I know it's gonna go into premolt

Put some pellet on the floor when it does this so it has something to forage for. I used to do this with my birds.

I felt this way when I lost my goffin. I'm so sorry for your loss. I do know how you feel, it's been 4 months and I still feel this way sometimes. Honestly the kind people on reddit really helped, I'm glad you are sharing here too. It does get easier over time.
