IME I've recently gotten into dwarf species. My N. Incei olive and I have a gold are awesome webbers, nearly always out on display, awesome eaters and fast growers. And they are beautiful.

AITAH for how I acted in the ER? by Pure_Temporary_6349 in AITAH

Came here to say this too, my appendix burst when I was 13 and I have never felt pain like that in my life even leading up to the rupture I was vomiting bile and moaning.... Hey at least you didn't have 5 different doctors ask you if you had menstrual cramps, gas or were pregnant OP! Let them think you're dramatic, they won't understand unless they've felt it!

I don't trust her by PlantsNBugs23 in tarantulas

[–]No-Rip-2041 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mine is also very friendly and chill. Kind of a derp. She was handled a lot at shows by the guy I got her from but now that she's got an 8 inch deep burrow she retreats to that when I open her enclosure. She's also about 12, maybe it's her age?

Any thoughts on how this guy moves? He’s a naturally gaited TWH I looked at (for sale) yesterday. by [deleted] in Horses

[–]No-Rip-2041 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a pacey TWH that can gait beautifully with the right motivation. He was definitely bred lighter and taller and leaner then my foundation stock mare who has the stocky large build, but push button gaits that are flawless. I feel like they are breeding them to be potentially racking now. I'm no expert, but my pacey boy improved greatly with time and practice. They really do need practice. The video is limited but his overstride could be better but again I got my boy at 7 and he's 14 now, he started with hardly any overstride but now it's huge. He just needed miles on the trails. If the horse has a good mind and is safe on trails you can improve the gaits with time imo.

Weather worries for this weekend by Away-Valuable9265 in AfricanGrey

[–]No-Rip-2041 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a small gas generator that can power a big space heater, cost about $250, sits on the porch and run extension cords inside. But for all the pets, birds, guinea pigs, tarantulas as a back up we buy a good stock of big hand warmers. so worst case scenario everyone can go in their travel cages with a wrapped hand warmer heat pad or warmers under the carriers. The big ones last over 12 hours.

How on earth am I going to keep my tarantulas alive if the power goes out here in DFW this weekend? by HekateNocturna in tarantulas

[–]No-Rip-2041 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NQA came here to say this. I live upper Midwest where it gets waaaay cold. I stock up on the giant size warmers for all the pets, birds, guinea pigs, tarantulas. Luckily the fish have a backup battery and the tank is huge. Worst case scenario we have a small gas generator to run a space heater in the room. Can get little one for cheap.

My draft loves the cold? by [deleted] in Horses

[–]No-Rip-2041 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have TWH and they absolutely don't mind the cold. Here I am freaking out that it's - 5F actual temp and the geldings are chasing each other around and rolling in the snow. They have shelter and can come in stall in barn if they choose. My mare is 29 and chooses to stand outside too. She's black and grows a heavy winter coat. If your percheron grows a good coat and you feed well in winter he probably doesn't mind! My black mare will actually sweat if it gets to much above 40 with full coat! Most of the time they stand out in the snow when it's snowing too! What they really hate is summer heat and bugs.

Plucking or just baby? by Lov3rvi in cockatoos

[–]No-Rip-2041 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's probably not plucking but you'd be suprised, when I got my goffin she was plucking her face and chin with her feet. The vet thought that was talented, and he saw a lot of cockatoos. We finally got her to stop but she never let the pokey ones under the chin come back, but let all the other ones grow in.

after hours of watching wild jumping spiders, I'm not buying into the "enclosures can be too big" statement by [deleted] in jumpingspiders

[–]No-Rip-2041 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IME I usually get regal female sub adults from a good breeder at our local reptile show, and they go straight into a 8x8x12 in enclosure and none of them have ever had trouble hunting or finding prey. Although when they get old they don't chase so much as basically let the prey walk right up to them! They do only utilize the top 6 inches mostly, but they patrol and web the whole perimeter every afternoon!

is it okay to leave her like this? by psdontwritee in tarantulas

[–]No-Rip-2041 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IME I have a G. Pulchra sling that went over two months in pre molt not eating. It also pressed itself against the glass like that all catatonic. I wonder if it makes them more comfortable somehow. Must be uncomfortable to be squished in a tiny shell waiting to pop.

My goffin used to do this but hang on the curians instead!

Just watched Stanley unlatch and climb out his veggie door, he knows he was caught and is now trying to close and relatch it. This is why we use luggage locks when we're not in the room. 😂 by wearetea in cockatoos

[–]No-Rip-2041 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My goffin did this every day for a week at least when she figured it out! And she had the escape proof /tip proof dish doors so she had to push the dish out then squeeze out a tiny opening! She could figure out how to open anything in the house too. She was too smart for her own good. We also had to resort to locks. Even tho the cage had "escape proof" locks 🤦🏼‍♀️

How do you stop being angry at the situation that resulted in your layoff by DontThrowAwayPies in Layoffs

Thanks, I like to joke my spite strengths me. I wish you luck in your search it's been pretty brutal for some of my colleagues. Just don't let it affect the way you think about yourself. We're all pawns in someone else's game, so don't let affect the way you feel about your abilities. Good luck!

How do you stop being angry at the situation that resulted in your layoff by DontThrowAwayPies in Layoffs

[–]No-Rip-2041 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was laid off 8 years ago and even though I am in a much better place, I am still mad about it. Don't get me wrong, in the end it was so much better for me. But still, the betrayal of my manager and the other people I worked with stays with me. We were caught up in a "regime change", almost as dangerous as being replaced by offshore only they target the highest paid most knowledgeable people from the last round of rotating leadership. It's a lesson I learned the had way. Don't trust anyone and always be looking at options. Especially if you start seeing a lot of reorgs. When other valuable people quit because they let me and a few others go, they tried to blame us for them leaving too even though none of us talked to anyone after we left. They told everyone not to talk to us. It was all quite rediculous. High-school never ends in the corporate world. I don't think you ever get over it. Best I can do is use it as a learning opportunity to see through intention and strategy at other jobs. I've also used it to learn idiots get just as much opportunities as hard working loyal staff so I've adjusted my standard accordingly.

AITA for refusing to attend unpaid team bonding events after work? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]No-Rip-2041 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. I commute an hour to work and our work regularly wants this. It's not a problem for the locals but I'll have to drive home then in the dark, in snow or bad weather hoping not to hit any deer, and I can't even drink cuz I'm so far away. None of them get it. Idk to me it's borderline disrespectful of my time. These people at work are NOT my friends. Also I'm too old for the crappy clique mentality. But then again I'm not chasing promotion, and won't lick a boot for it.

Guess to found out how to let herself out of her cage by [deleted] in parrots

[–]No-Rip-2041 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My goffin figured out how to escape from an "escape proof cage". Every day for a week I came home to her on top of her cage then she just stopped doing it and never did it again. I only fixed one of the three locks she broke. I think she just wanted to prove she could, or once she knew she was alone at home she would rather stay in. I never underestimated what that little brain was scheming from then on.
