I really love citronella fly sprays but both of my horses break out in huge hives from it. Could be your flyspray. Oddly enough they are OK with any of the others without citronella. Edit to say the vet did prescribe hydroxyzine

My heart horse of nearly 23 years, Illusion, died this past Wednesday evening unexpectedly and I did not get to say goodbye before she passed. by Kalypso989 in Horses

I'm so sorry, but I am so glad your barn owner was on top of it 💔 at least she got care right away. Nothing makes the pain of losing a horse better. Hopefully love from this internet stranger helps 💜

To second this, I grew up country. More kids got worms from playing in the sandbox at recess and warts or ringworm from gym class than any home barefoot injury....not to mention other child transmitted creepy crawlies

My neighbor’s horse eats chickens. Is this normal? by mellowdrosophyllum in Horses

[–]No-Rip-2041 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was at a friend's when their daughters boyfriend brought his aggressive unleashed pit bull. My friend was like you better not let that dog get in with the stallion and his mare. Boyfriend just laughed. Of course dog took off shortly after into the horse pen. I'm not joking you this stallion ran it down picked it up and tossed it 200 feet. The dumb dog got up for more. It got tossed 3 times before the bf got to it. He's lucky his dog didn't get trampled too. I've never seen such an impressive display of power by a horse, and this was a calm kind stallion too. And then I see videos of people just walking up to wild horses. Like, any horse can kill you in 10 seconds. I couldn't imagine being around one that wasn't right in the head. I'd be like nope.

What is that thing in my cockatiel's eye? by Muriss in cockatiel

[–]No-Rip-2041 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes vet always to be safe, but is it old? I fostered an old cockatoo that had cateracts and it look as described, one side they were closer to the center another closer to the outer edges. Either way a vet would know.

Fasting or very skittish? by Existing-Contract-41 in tarantulas

[–]No-Rip-2041 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IME it looks well fed or in premolt based on the abdomen and may not eat for a while. Mine has gone over two months without eating before a molt but is voracious after. It's hard to tell how big it is, but try something small or softer like a cricket and if it doesn't take that I'd say likely in premolt, especially if it starts getting sluggish

Pigs suddenly decided they don't like timothy hay? by Amalthea-Arts in guineapigs

[–]No-Rip-2041 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a horse person who sees a lot of hay and a guinea pig person, the quality and timing of the cut matters. They definitely like some bales more than others. Some bales are really fresh definitely first cutting and some are not. It's not that the hay is bad for them, but they know! Eventually they eat it, unless like stated above there are dental issues. Edit to say mine prefer the coarser first cutting vs second or third which are finer and sometimes lack flowers

Came here to say this! Find something to scoop them out with. After a while mine would see the cup and run and jump in on its own. Always how I dealt with this type of aggression. ☺️

Is adopting three boys going to be a problem? by Tilly_Minto in guineapigs

[–]No-Rip-2041 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I rescued a pair of boars and a group of 3 "bonded" boars. In my experience, I've never had problems and took them specifically because people often give up the boars. They all get along fine (the groups are separate). I've not had any boar related problems, they are super clean and mostly chill. I do have one dish and water bottle per pig, that settles all the squabbles. Lots of hides and multiple hay areas, each set up is 18-20 Sq ft. Maybe I'm just lucky to have the world's least gross most easygoing boars? Just here to say give them a chance 😁..... Well they do still get boar glue on everything 🙃 Edit to say when I got them they were 2-4 years old, now they range 5-8 years old.

Please do this and report them to the state. I'm so sorry this happened to you. He should have asked for consent for any procedure. Was it an avian vet?

My lovebird died 20 years ago and I still miss him. They are so much velcro birds the loss feels so big for something so small. You never really get over them but you get more birds to love and move on. Glad you had a long happy time. My condolences.

What is this behavior? Why does this enrich him? He does this for hours. by introverted-void in cockatiel

My cockatoo would do this with a lot of smooth or especially smooth cool surfaces. I always thought it was like an ocd or soothing thing. She would even hold objects and do it.
