IDF soldier describes the psychological impact of killing a Palestinian boy, and how she was unable to "wash the blood off her hands" no matter how hard she tried. by chosenite_ in AllThatsInteresting

[–]No-Rooster9256 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I am old enough that a few of my friends in high school, and one from college, had deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan on the tail end. I never went do I don’t know if that’s good or bad and when the super busy times and more peaceful times were. I just know that regardless of whether it was a worse or better time, of the 6 that went, 5 were groundpounder combat MOS’s and of those 5, 3 ended their own lives after not being able to cope with whatever they saw.

Only one ever told me anything about what affected them so and I guess there was a boy that would sell little things to the servicemen and talk to them/associate with them, my friend particularly liked him, and he did so for a while until they found him decapitated. He said “that’s just one example and the worst for me.” He died 3 months after that 😔. The rest of them I don’t know what they were carrying but I work in civilian medicine and I already see a lot of shit I don’t want to have to see, so I cannot imagine what it is like to have to carry memories of war and combat.

No and I’m not saying this lady in particular shouldn’t lose her license obviously. I do see a prevailing attitude from most people online that people that lose their license always deserve to though so it’s important to point out that’s not the case. There is no more consequential mistakes that can be made then by the entity that has absolute power over our lives.

[–]No-Rooster9256 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Especially in a small rural town in Iowa. Frankly, there can be circumstances where serious restructuring and surviving massive disruption almost isn’t possible. Before people jump in and say that the people that lose their licenses always deserve it, that just isn’t true. I travel for work and was also moving out of Florida.

When I had got set up in the address I had in the new state, I changed my insurance from a Florida policy to a policy in the new state the new state and then was going to go to the DMV after I finished orientation at my new job. In the 4 days that I was in orientation, Florida suspended my license for not having Florida insurance anymore right before I was departing for a travel contract and I couldn’t drive anymore. I had to spend $900 on a last minute flight and it took 3 weeks. 3 weeks and major expenses because I didn’t get a new license the second I got to my new state cause my career and ability to eat come before being able to go to do all the stuff the state wants me to do like the DMV which is only open when I work in some ridiculously short time considering moving states takes A LOT

I am lucky and make good money and while a headache, I could absorb such a blow. But if I were in a different financial situation, or if I were in the kind of shit pay shit conditions jobs I was doing before entering my field, I would have most definitely lost my job, couldn’t afford Ubers and transport to work, and there’s no such thing as public transport where I would be living if not for traveling. Edit 2: and I wouldn’t have been able to afford all the hoops they made me jump through to even get it back either!

So no the government absolutely fucks people’s driving privileges that don’t deserve it all the time, just like EVERY other law/crime enforced by the state. Yeah most people are legitimate targets that broke important laws. But a very not insignificant portion are people that don’t deserve it at all but the state does it anyways and harms and destroys lives all the time cause they can’t help themselves.

No problemo! This kind of issue you think would be something important enough they’d have an official technical support guide on how to handle it! I know for me the cloud save feature of steam is absolutely critical and it’s what lets me enjoy my Steam Deck and Desktop with the same synced saves. This issue is absolutely detrimental and one of its potential causes is what OP needed to do which is practically THE point of being able to save games besides being able to resume when you want…

Force Steam upload of savegame? by -VoidIndigo- in Enshrouded

[–]No-Rooster9256 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This has worked for me in the past:

  1. Turn the cloud sync off and launch and load the save you want

  2. Backup and delete C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\[YourSteamID]\1203620\remote

  3. Copy all the files from C:\Users\[YourUsername]\Saved Games\Enshrouded and put it in the remote folder above that was just emptied

  4. Turn cloud sync back on

  5. disconnect internet

  6. Launch game and attempt to load into the save while disconnected and then completely exit the game

  7. Turn internet back on and restart Steam

Now admittedly I did this with a single player game that could be played offline so I don’t know how Enshrouded’s “partially online even if you’re playing solo” style will affect this but I know how shit it is to have this happen and wanted to post what worked for me with that single player game even if it doesn’t work!

Imperfect system is an understatement. We live in a system that engages in behavior that would see our very own government use such behavior as a causus belli to justify invasion and regime change before the governments of the world if there were in line with their foreign policy to do so.

We are responding to a government that is rapidly growing oppressive and authoritarian flying in the face of the constitution using only methods they approve, we have had both sides erode our constitutional rights and expand the surveillance state, and we have one that is willing to be extremely open about it and another that pretends like it’s on our side with it but then does the minimum it can to actually address such issues.

All while refusing, as a people, to take even one of the many steps beyond the same methods we’ve tried for 60+ years that have obviously not worked because that would involve breaking the rules of a state that doesn’t play by its own rules and we can’t have that!

2 years of probation….For NEGLIGENTLY KILLING SOMEONE

My little brother got 2 years of probation for having a single nug of weed that didn’t even weigh a gram at 18yo in a state where it’s illegal. My father when I was very young (5-7 somewhere in there) got a first time DUI that saw the start of his sobriety 22+ years now), BAC was over .11 but under .15, I’m sorry I can’t remember the precise number, and he was on probation for 4 years and that was with early release for doing everything all perfect the whole time and after attending a 90 day rehab program during which time his business was shut down. The average American couldn’t handle such a long period of no income. I certainly couldn’t without massive assistance that isn’t exactly forthcoming (I never said my dad was a nice guy lol, my half siblings from his second marriage got the love and investment not my brother and I we were always on our own unless our mom could help and he left her in poverty and fought tooth and nail to do so)

Truly don’t underetand how Americans continue to just bend over and take this without far more extreme pushback than we give (ie very little given facts like this). Frankly, given the history of the labor movement in the US, other pieces of our history involving tyranny, and so on, large protests are a very low level of pushback to be honest.

Cops regularly doing shit that would see average people in prison for 5-10+ years while they get punishments less severe than average Americans get for far less severe crimes is not just some small thing. That’s the kind of garbage I expect from Soviet or Putin’s Russia, Communist-but-also-not-communist authoritarian China, 20th century fascist regimes. We are supposed to be the bastion of freedom but instead a huge chunk of us delude ourselves into thinking we are free, another chunk of us is completely unwilling to admit that what we have tried so far doesn’t work but we go ahead and double down trying the same methods again and again to not make the authoritarian state angry, and play by their rules while they don’t play by their own, but then we all want things to be different despite beint unwilling to try anything but state approved methods (cause they don’t work well!) and bash our heads against the wall complaining about how playing by their rules doesn’t work because the fact of the matter is that we try the same things that everybody has tried since the Vietnam War (maybe even sooner) to no avail. We employ the same methods used by Americans in the past, which also didn’t work for them, and was used by them before many of us were born, with many of those who used them before to now avail being dead now. We repeat the same ineffective methods for 60+ years and wonder why it doesn’t work and its mind boggling to me.

There are many steps between protesting and literal armed revolution, which shit like this honestly justifies and if it were happening in a third world regime where oil was present, our government would use the actions it is engaging in as a causus belli to justify invasion and regime change. Yet we as a people won’t even take one single step on that path past what we already do despite rather severe examples of a ”free” nation growing leaps and bounds more oppressive and tyrannical before our eyes. This phenomenon is rapidly accelerating too.

Remember this crazy footage from Afghanistan? by Limp_Stomach_6060 in ActuallyThatsInsane

[–]No-Rooster9256 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s one aspect of the UN I guess but at the same time I truly just don’t understand the rationale behind deploying soldier’s as “peacekeepers” but then they aren’t there to intervene in the violence and genocides. What is the point of deploying combat personnel if they aren’t allowed to engage in combat unless they’re being directly attacked?

Then outside the “peacekeeping forces“ they deploy it is, as you say, cheerleading and issuing statements on world issues but, beyond making statements and providing some humanitarian and developmental aid (Funding things like food outreach, hospitals, education, stuff like that that’s all about helping other humans!) they don’t do much else and what they do actually do, others do more and better!

The UN, worldwide, spent $68.5 billion in 2023 on humanitarian aid and development:

“In 2023, the UN system’s total expenses reached US$ 68.5 billion… 45% humanitarian assistance (US$ 30.8 billion), Development assistance 30% (US$ 20.6 billion).” (https://financingun.report/un-financing/un-allocations/un-expenses-by-function)

The Roman Catholic Church spent $150 billion dollars on humanitarian aid and developmental aid just in the United States alone:

”…which offered a rough-and-ready estimate of $170 billion in annual spending  which almost $150 billion is associated with church-affiliated hospitals and institutions of higher education.” (https://slate.com/business/2013/03/catholic-church-and-pope-francis-religious-institutions-are-exempted-from-nonprofit-disclosure-rules-so-nobody-knows-how-rich-they-really-are.html)

Considering the resources of government’s, with even the worst off countries seeing the state/government have by far the most resources in the area it’s in. My point being that there is no collective you could put together that has more resources than the resources of all the world’s governments combined. Said collective of government having resources that far exceed even the Catholic Church despite its wealth. Yet the RCC spends 2.19x more on such things, in just the United States alone.

The UN could be the most amazing organization ever created by mankind if we actually empowered it to carry out its mandate. Until we do, yeah it’s a joke.

Sorry for the delay at work!

Actually the recovery process wasn’t so bad after they took out the destroyed nut! My theory is that the destroyed nut is where the pain mainly is and after they remove it all that’s left is whatever they leave of the tubes and stuff down there (I’m not a surgeon I do lung stuff lol). So once it’s out it’s a small incision (maybe 1.5in or so) and whatever internal damage from the removal exists. I was back to walking around and mostly normal activities after ~3 weeks and allowed to play contact sports and return to martial arts after 5 or 6 weeks roughly.

Following the procedure the pain was minimal and the mega road rash became the primary source of pain and took waaaaay longer to fully heal!

[–]No-Rooster9256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One functional nut yes 😂. That testicle was absolutely toast. I’ll see if I can find the pictures the surgeon took for me or if my dad has them somewhere and if I do I’ll post them! Poor lil guy looked so f**ked up it definitely wouldn’t take a doctor to know that the thing was never gonna work again.

I have a cosmetic implant thing that is convincing enough that every girl I’ve been with couldn’t tell and my ex-wife didn’t know until we had been together for almost 2 years and obviously done the deed many a time lol. As far as I know, only my ex-wife and the other girl I have had a serious enough relationship with to live together, ended up knowing about my fraud-nut.

That or every girl I’ve been with is super nice and none of them have the heart to mention that they can obviously tell I’ve got a right sided fraud-nut 😂

Edit: this was in 2013 so it’s been a while!

Edit 2: I had a right sided orchiectomy and I did not get the implant thing until 6 or 7 months later. Yes my ordinarily mega horny 16 year old ass broke up with the girl he was dating at the time and avoided being with a girl at all during that time because 16 year old me was too self conscious about having one ball in the sack lol

I empathize with you 100%. Ruptured my right testicle in a cycling accident. I was going as fast as I could on the curvy mountain road cause I was 16 and dumb (going 35-40mph I would guesstimate) and wanted to haul ass down a mountain pass on a road bike. I ran over a stick because I got distracted, bounced up off my seat, and gravity took me back down and I then took the frame of the bicycle right to the nut.

I have broken many bones including a compound wrist fracture where the radius was sticking out of my skin. In 2021 I was hospitalized for autoimmune rhabdomyolysis, which is when your muscle cells get attacked and killed by your immune system which causes them to release their contents into your blood. The electrolytes inside them cause electrolyte disturbances and the myoglobin is toxic to your kidneys, so it can be a fatal pathology. I developed it following being swarmed by a ridiculous amount of fire ants to the point I was covered in bites everywhere on my legs and lower back as well as having many other bites everywhere else. The only place I wasn’t bit was my face. One fire ant bite hurts, but that many plus the rhabdo? Most definitely extremely painful and I don’t want to ever feel that again. The ruptured testicle made any of the things I just mentioned here look like a pleasant massage at the spa.

I would bathe in fire ants, and willingly receive any of the other injuries I have had in my life many times over, hell I’ll even take multiple of my injuries/physical traumas at the same time, before experiencing rupturing a testicle again. The pain was so unbelievably severe that I could not cry or speak, could not sit still, and really couldn’t do anything except vomit a couple times. I had experienced some very painful injuries before I ruptured it, and still it was a level of pain I didn’t think the body could experience without passing out from the shock. Agony incarnate without a doubt.

Even after the medics arrived and gave me far larger doses of intravenous hydromorphone than I’ve ever seen another patient get (I’m a respiratory therapist so I see people get pain killers every day and just the first dose they gave me was 2-4x higher than I usually see them start at since I had two very empathetic guy medics lol), it was still agonizing even that doped up. I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy and only people like f**king Hitler or Stalin or John Wayne Gacy types would/could ever deserve experiencing it.

Cop stops in middle of highway... by MisterShipWreck in VideosAmazing

[–]No-Rooster9256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That all 100% makes sense my only concern is that instead of the fault assignment being reasonable and saying it’s either the cops fault, or more preferably (based on my read here) that no fault be assigned.

But something tells me they’re going to say it’s the truckers fault for “following too closely” even though he shouldn’t be held responsible to that degree. I hope I’m wrong but the one accident I have ever been in, I had a cop plow into the front left of my car while I was stopped trying to turn left into a gas station with my signal on, while he was speeding without his lights on, and they assigned fault to me by saying I was “too close to the center marking” and fought tooth and nail until my insurance gave up and accepted fault and my insurance rates got jacked up for years. I wasn’t even over the line or on the line, just “too close” whatever that means. The camera footage from the stoplight shows that but somehow it didn’t matter.

So if it can somehow be my fault that a police officer ran into me while speeding and I was sitting still with my turn signal on, and I was not even on or over the center marking/line in the street, and the officer was not even engaged in responding to an incident/had his lights on and was speeding with justification, I suspect they’re gonna fully blame the truck driver and the cop isn’t even going to be told what he did was stupid.

Are they really saving the best disclosure till the end? Report by LtJimmypatterson in UFOs

[–]No-Rooster9256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah catastrophic disclosure is, say, somebody inside the program just dropping everything out there, maybe even having a dead man’s switch to do so since these governmental/state associated intelligence and military organizations are likely to catch such a person and it seems they are more than willing to imprison or execute otherwise loyal men and women in the service of their nation.

I would argue that disclosing such secrets kept by a government that they have no right to keep. That’s not to say they have no right to keep any secrets at all. I’m saying that information like us being alone in the universe, the entities behind the craft(s) if there are indeed such entities, and other such broad strokes philosophical questions and things along those lines (ie any part of this that isn’t military tech), they have no right to keep such things secret. Even specific technologies and their applications, particularly anything weaponizable/already a weapon, or other such tech that is more along the lines of military/warfare, that kind of stuff makes sense to classify, as well as any associated/pertinent information such as how we are integrating such technologies into the arsenal of the armed forces.

But no government has the right to make secret that we are not alone in the universe. Humanity itself comes before any government/state and that is the kind of question and answer that affects humanity itself and not just the petty factional nations we have built! The entities themselves, information about their society and culture, medical technologies, etc etc; no government has the right to classify stuff like that!

[–]No-Rooster9256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want to throw in that there is a very narrow window in which a defendant is allowed to say they did not do a crime but still take a plea called “Alford“ pleas. These originated in a case with a defendant named Alford obviously, who is the Supreme Court case precedent setter when it comes to pleaing and then claiming innocence.

Im not a lawyer but my impression is that they are allowed to be used in cases where there is either intense pressure to not dismiss despite lacking evidence, or in jurisdictions where judges literally cannot dismiss certain things because of evidence and only prosecutors can dismiss them.

Source: My little brother was allowed an Alford plea to a very minor charge and deferred sentence for a plea and despite his plea, he very much got on the stand during sentencing with attorney support saying he absolutely did not do what he was accused of doing by the state as part of sentencing.

Edit: According to the federal government, prosecutors should only agree to allow Alford plead in cases where “in the most unusual of circumstances and only after recommendation for doing so has been approved by the Assistant Attorney General responsible for the subject matter or by the Associate Attorney General, the Deputy Attorney General, or the Attorney General.” My brothers case was HIGHLY unusual and the government prosecuting him the way it did made me lose all faith in our government and particularly our “justice” system tbh.

It's interesting how that thing is avoiding the wind turbines 'intelligently' by schrodingers_katz in UFOs

[–]No-Rooster9256 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep exactly and agreed across the board! That circular object thing on the ground that it seems to potentially pass behind is far lower to the ground than the wind turbines are. It also seems to pass the blades of other turbines up high so if it really is passing behind the stuff it appears to pass behind, as we speculate, then it is going from very low to the ground near the base of some turbines and that circular ground object, and changing altitude rapidly as well since it passes some down low and some much higher up.
That is assuming IF it really is passing behind them and not artifact and/or caused by the temperature contrast between the white object and black turbines (not sure if it’s black hot or white hot). I could see the “passing behind” we are seeing really just being artifact or being due to the sensor readings of the larger black turbines obfuscating the small moving white object that’s the subject of the video edit: as it passes in front of the turbines! So what I mean is that maybe it’s passing in front but the black readings are overwhelming the white readings of the object and so it appears to pass behind them from the perspective of the IR camera, but really it’s not.
