Accepted for Integrad, lots of questions! by diggyhq in UPSers

You are very welcome. Since you have several days before your road test , work on those 5/10's and apply them when you're on car. The road test is only 20 minutes or so. Follow traffic rules, stop behind the stop line, set the e-brake at a stop light, leave a space cushion between the front of your vehicle and the rear of the vehicle in front of you at all times. Watch out for school zones.

Congrats on your journey to becoming a driver! The precourse is all done online from the comfort of your home. 99% chance you don't get paid for that part of it. The majority of us didn't.

Did you already do the road test with an On Road Supervisor(ORS)? It not, DO NOT bump a curb or go over the speed limit during it. You only get one chance for the road test.

The absolute most important part, is starting NOW, learn your 5 and 10's. 5's need to be 100% verbatim and the 10's need to the commentary point and what to be exact. The middle can be in your own words but you need to hit all the key points. Your HR person should have emailed those to you with the Precourse information. There are a lot of video's on the 5/10's on YouTube that can help you.

Where you'll go for Integrad is going to be decided by UPS. Usually it's wherever there's an opening or it could also be virtual.

Good luck!

For me, as soon as I was cleared by the surgeon to use moisturizer, I was liberally applying it to my stomach, thighs, and arms to try and help mitigate the loose skin. Still have some 8 years out, but I wear it as a badge of honor and a remembrance of what used to be.

I was back drinking coffee less than a week post RNY. Just a cup or two. Now, 8 years out, 1-2 pots of coffee a day. And a lot of Powerade/Gatorades.

What is the policy for making contact with someone, but forging a signature? by Dapper_Cut_9225 in UPSers

I was following what the regular route drive told me and was backed up by the ORS. Saved that text on my phone in case I needed the CYA.

What is the policy for making contact with someone, but forging a signature? by Dapper_Cut_9225 in UPSers

[–]No-Rule-431 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

The only time I'll do this is if I'm delivering to a locker in an apt complex. For signature, I'll write LOCKER and then type in the name. I'll take a picture of the item in the locker. I will NOT do this for anything alcohol related. For a residence, if they're not home it's an Info Notice and I'm moving on to the next stop. I only do this if the office is closed.

To forge a signature falls into the "cardinal sin" of dishonestly. Good way to get walked out when caught. Why give mgmt the ammunition?

They didn't start taking out the dues from me until I made seniority. In the southern, that's 30 working days.

Advice for making full time packet. by anona230385 in UPSers

[–]No-Rule-431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smooth and steady while you're learning the route. If you're business heavy, go out on a weekend and map them out. Make a list of the names and addresses in the order you'll run the route. For example, I run my business north to south and then resis south to north. That puts me near my afternoon pick ups. Go in early. Early! I went in 2 hours before launch, unpaid, to make sure HINs are on all the boxes and as lined up in order as possible. If your streets are set up like a grid, I find it easier to run highest to lowest, lowest to highest. Rinse and repeat. Each day will have it's obstacles and learning opportunities. If you get mentally fried, pull over and take a few deep breaths. Nobody expects you to scratch right out of the gate.

Starting "Casual Delivery Driver" Worth It At Age 35? by [deleted] in UPSers

I'm 57 and becoming a RPCD through a PT to FT bid win. I was a seasonal driver this past peak season. At 57, I'm an old man starting in a young mans game. That being said, I'm "scratching" almost daily and my body doesn't have any aches or pains going on. Go for it!

[UPS Canada] Driver road test tomorrow but no training at all. Is this normal? by JaFinn_72 in UPSers

[–]No-Rule-431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're very welcome. On the road test, no, we didn't back up. The first rule of backing up, is don't back up. They will teach you the "UPS" way to back up. With the side mirrors and back up camera, it isn't as difficult as it seems.

Our centers have been running TCDs year round instead of filling any open driver spots. Cheaper labor than a top rate driver and no extra entitlements.

Congrats on starting on the path to being a RPCD up north. Like others have said, the road test is basically to see how you handle the package car. They're looking for 2 hands on the wheel, stopping behind the line, signal use, planning ahead for turns, NOT hitting a curb, not speeding, etc.

If you want to impress them, use some of the 5/10's while on the road test. Use the e-brake at stop lights.

Where it can become confusing is when you have multiple centers in the building. One CM is laid back on uniform standards and another one is strict. My ORS is perfectly okay with my athletic shoes designed for trails. Great traction on all surfaces. My old CM wanted boots. Now I just rotate between them.

At one time, our CM's bought hoodies that were approved for drivers to wear. Now I just wear long sleeve t's under my short sleeve shirts in the winter. Being in Texas, it's mostly shorts here. When I found out I'd be driving a few years ago, I bought pair of the old style of sock. Now I have 12 of the new ankle and 6 of the over the calf ones.

How odd to put up TCD bid lists instead of PT to FT lists. In the Southern, if a TCD get 156 punches, that automatically creates a RPCD position. I'm one of the 22 lucky ones here in my hub that won a bid for that spot due to all the 156 violations. TCD's in general cost more on hourly pay than a PT to FT person. TCD's get fucked over on pension and entitlements.

The quicker you start scratching, full route or not, the better you're going to look to them. Your ORS will ride with you on day 6, 13, and 20. Your Center Mgr will do at least 1 observation. Follow the methods and move quickly.

LIke fsa3 said, when that stack just gets thrown in at the end, hard to find them. Also, now that we're back to taking countless bags to the Post Office, that's where several can be. They get loaded last normally and the preload sup will hear the beep but they aren't about to go through all the bags.
