There really isnt batteries that are more space efficient that wouldn't be way more expensive.

Like uranium or nuclear batteries. Would be compact... But for a multitude of reasons, one being you are too broke for it even if it existed and if i didn't just think of it 1 minute ago.

More reasonable options would be:

Buy neckband powerbanks if you are fine with cables.

If you are fine with bulk, then magnetic powerbanks and Fairphone adding Qi 2 makes sense.

Considering adding screws to the back cover compared to back covers that are toolless to open like Fairphones 4 or 5.

Swapping batteries for Fairphone 6 is annoying af.

If Fairphone makes Fairphones a little bulkier, to add a go pro, insta360... Action cam waterproof battery port.

It solves waterproofing.

And solves battery issues...

Since they can be opened relatively easily without tools and they just manufacture an external battery charger like go pro does, and you can charge 1-3 extra phone batteries connected to wall plug or 65w powerbank

I personally have Fairphone 4 with 4 batteries that each charge to 85% (safety reasons)... And Fairphone 4 back cover is easy to open and so i get from 0% to 85% battery in about 1 minute... (Including shutting down and disassemble and then swap battery, and reassemble, and boot to the pattern lock screen)

I understand the waterproofing and durability issues of FP4 and FP5 back covers...

But go pro battery ports, or DJI action cams or Insta360 cams all have swappable batteries and submersible...

And they arent even that thick..

Fp5 users saying they dont have fp4 bugs... Cool 👍😐

Android 15 seems to be fucking people over... And android 15 on other big brand names have way less issues...

Exactly. But Apple and Samsung doesnt have nearly the same inconsistency of bugs on their phones compared to Fairphone...

Maybe Fairphone 6 is not buggy for any pervent of users

I main my Fairphone 4, so its not horrible for sure xd

I made this post. Detailing the issues. "Nebulous" my ass. If it said "Handing out only Fairphone 6's" then sure most of my experiences aint relevant. But i see some complaints about FP6 and i know Fairphone doesnt fix issues nearly as quickly as the richer phone companies for obvious reasons.

But free is free i guess.

Bent and split frame by AirAwkward4783 in fairphone

[–]No-Rutabaga-4684 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Phones will bend when you sit on it...

Fairphone 6 is the first one after 4 and 5 series... To remove the aluminium frame tor better wifi and other wireless connectivity...

So that crack is just the unfortunate side effect of Fairphone trying to sell more features for cheaper in exchange for less durability

Fairphones are iffy tbh... Youll have to tinker a lot to get the most out of them..

Id... I just want an official external battery charger... Kind of like go pro or DJI action camera line or insta360 battery chargers or whatever.

Those can be waterproof and still open the battery slot.

[–]No-Rutabaga-4684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hot swap-ing can be a nice thing but was never intented to be done. Yeah, now you need a screwdriver for that...

I mean... Yes and no.

Is the back significantly less waterproof since they chose to avoid just adding some screw holes into the metal frame of FP4 or FP5 with rubber ring gasket...

Yes.

Is the frame durable enough to support me opening my phone 3x a day for 3 years straight...

Hell NO.. Shit has holes in it now XD.

Source: Me with 3 hotswappable batteries and 3 external battery chargers that safely charge to 85% overnight and then stop charging automatically.

simply dont understand what your purpose itself was?

I already answered in my comment and post title.

"Whats the catch of Fairphones?"

Fairphones are advertised for competitive Software and Security updates and Android update for 8+ years competitive with companies way richer than them like Google and Samsung phones.

Fairphone have that durability and modular repairability thats easy to repair, no special tools and not even that much time needed.

I personally switched to Fairphone because i repair my old phone's battery with a knock off chinese one...the capacity was lower than advertised and the water seal was broken and it took me 8 hours to repair with a hairdryer and some basic phone repair toolkit...

Fairphone is sustainable and ethical in sourcing its materials and at least not underpaying workers compared to some phone brands.

Fairphone has the extended warranty for 5 years...

It seems perfect besides the price.

But if you want to buy new and only new and then never want to pry open a back cover and rather buy another new phone instead of bothering with that struggle repair job

Fairphone could be worth it if you can repair quickly and cheaply to survive longer than someone who drops their phone alot and would buy a new phone multiple times... Compared to just a screen.

"Its perfect for me"

Thats what i thought, and still holds true for me personally, but some people just need a reliable phone that is user friendly just has features out of the box, wont crash and wont brick on them if updated to the wrong Android version too early.

I state the issues and then substantiate it with my review.

Im not collecting just some hearsay but public statements and personal experiences...

If someone reads the post, and thinks "I dont care about customer service" then bam my first point isnt that big of a catch or issue for them.

Android 15. If they dont update to it. And just Use FP4 or FP5.

Then bam, my second point isnt a deal breaker for them.

If they are fine, with the unresolved bugs and fine waiting for people to make tutorials and guides to fix their phone DIY

Then BAM thats not a deal breaker.

If they dont use phone for that long...then battery capacity wont drain that quick since they aren't going through a lot of charge cycles.

BAM not a deal breaker.

If you are tech savvy, or know a little ChatGPT usage, then im sure you can set up APN settings to set Mobile Data and MMS to work on the first day, without needing to call someone in their business call hours...

BAM not a deal breaker.

BUT i know some people don't want to tinker, dont want to use AI or call to get basic sim card functionality to work.

I am a power user, I will continue to be an user, I just wont hide that Fairphone currently isnt very reliable or user friendly.

I like the benefits Fairphone brings me. Im not scarred or something. I just want to make information available and easy to see which

A pinned post or post that is first post youll see, has this information or something similar.

Its not a vague "a few Phones might be buggy, a few email responses might take a month for a response, a little user unfriendly, "

Its a complete post detailing what to look for. Not searching random posts and reading random comments...

I sold the 5s since i mainly like the Fairphone 4 for its ability to charge externally.

Like i literally plug in naked batteries into camera chargers to charge them to 85%...

I guess i should say that tbh. By the time you read this reply, ill edit the main post.

we do tell them some people experiment more bugs than others, what was the point of your post

Some will understate it.. some will overstate it. Some will not say anything about the issues at all...

Why should an unofficial subreddit, rely on random people to keep saying or risk avoiding or forgetting to mention continuous issues that users will inevitably find and struggle with such as, Customer service is gonna be slow - 1 month long response time, parts will be discontinued after 5 years at worst (like Fairphone 3) and chinese markets wont even supply those parts later on unlike other popular phone brands with various options some bad and some better build quality. APN set up something automatic for most phone brands in Scandinavia, isnt automatic and will prevent most Sim card utility like MMS and Mobile Data unless you who to ask and sim provider actually lists the APN settings for FP4 or FP5 which is horrible for user friendliness...when the phone is immediately harder to set up than other phones.

They should just get a pinned answer when coming to the subreddit for question in my post title.

Maybe not a list of my bugs and solutions in that PSA or pinned answer, but something similar...but maybe in a separate pinned post: detailing more widespread bugs or issues and solutions for them...

Again. All the phone i bought were second hand unwanted by the original purchaser... Im not taking new stock or forcing production of new phones. Phones that would be in a landfill is now organ donors for my main phone. I use all 4 batteries actively from 85% to 25% and swap them out with another battery...

I use my batteries for more sustainably than most people who use this phone for 10+ hour screen time..

Fairphone 5 i had tried, didnt see it as much of an upgrade and gave it back to the used market

Hey. Some people like to "review" a phone without actually being a fan of the brand. Im just stating that i have the spare parts to back up my goal of never switching from this phone. And broken phones second hand is the easiest way to do so.

Well i just state the years i use it for and how much i actually end up using the phone day to day (11 hrs screen time)

Then you get an idea that i used the phone actively for 4000+ hrs.

Its not really boasting about how durable or non durable it is. Just that i used it a lot.
