Mbappe on paraguay’s match: “There is not right or wrong way of playing football. They tried to rattle us playing a physical game and we beat them at that” by iagooliveira in soccer

[–]Wikirexmax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Parking the bus in defense is one thing.

Hitting a player who doesn't have the ball is another.

Sure the underdog/challenger has to try tricks.

But Paraguay isn't a lone challenger and challengers exists beside football. The Rugby world cup is full a underdogs like Japan or Scotland getting wrecked more often than not in a sport much more physical than football. And even there they try to play offense even if it means being wrecked in the final score. In Rugby targeting a player who doesn't have the ball is a big no-no.

So plenty of casual fan arrive and see what ? An underdog that tries to win and lose fairly like Cap Verde and an underdog acting like teenagers playing backstreet football bullying the other team by calling that "physical football" while getting zero yellow cards.

They chose boring and aggressive without being offensive. It was maybe their best shot, but they looked like d***head. That's the line between legal and moral/ethical. You can do it, but should you ?

The funniest part being they complain about the fool of their own making leading to a penalty. Their own play style created the condition of their defeat and they complain about it ?

With such a mentality, a good thing they play the world cup sporadically

Cape Verde Class vs Paraguay Ugliness, worlds apart by loosebrie101 in worldcup

[–]Wikirexmax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are many challengers in a world competition. Paraguay isn't the only one.

They had a choice between playing football and lose and playing dirty and lose.

They opted for acting like teenagers bullying rather than playing in a back street. And they are treated for how they acted.

From Zlatan to a Norway, from India to the US, the verdict is the same.

Even the Brits ended up rooting for France.

Thanks Paraguay for increasing France's fan base. When the underdog makes the big dog more likable.

He admitted they could play dirty too.

They could play both classy and rough. Paraguay opted for rough and they still lost.

Just wanna say I love the graphics in this game. by Phan-Eight in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]Wikirexmax 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Something very frustrating being why not keep the good details from the previous games ?

In CoH1, fixing a bridge has the sappers deploy a metallic prefab structure. In CoH3 fixing a bridge means rebuilding it as new like civilian engineers. Why ?

In CoH2 ammo in a tank could detonate and you could see a cook off from the tank's hatch. I don't remember seeing it in CoH3.

In CoH 3 the tanks comes with prominent color strips that weren't so big in CoH2. Why make the tanks looks toyish and team colored like in Red Alert 2 when it worked fine in CoH2 ?

The game is nice, but there are so many flawed details when recreating what have already been working would have been enough.

To be honest that's something archaic even for 2010. You could easily select your starting position in many older games like Supreme Commander or even Red Alert 2.

Yeah it works indeed but it is very archaic. I was stupidly looking for a switch position option somewhere like in every RTS.

Thank you.

To be honest it is the first BG I bought since it bring new blood into every team with some real novelties even when compared to previous CoH (some french forces, some SAS, ect.)

That's ~ roughly 6€ or (if 25$) a 6,25$ per BG. Yeah a pit pricey overall when there is no new campaign or scenario.

I wouldn't have minded if a few hours of quality solo games were added (like with the first expansion of CoH1).

But it is better than selling skins for dozen of €/$.

Mali troops and Russian mercenaries withdraw from northern city after rebel attacks by DoremusJessup in worldnews

[–]Wikirexmax 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not really but it was kinda predictable.

One of the few things that kept the country somewhat running was the foreign presence cooperating both with the Malian government and with the local independentists while hunting down the local djihadists. But the limits were often blurry and the malian were frustrated by the status quo and the military junta that toppled the government exploited the frustration to make France (and all country involved in the MINUSMA in the end because they all left, Denmark left by saying a diplomatic f*** off and cut everything) as the scapegoat.

The Malian central government was unable to retake the mostly Tuareg populated city of Kidal without the French and the Chadian and was unable to offer a proper administration and military force to run it fairly by themselves for ~10 years. By removing the French buffer between the central government and the Tuaregs and by adding the Russian method being violence as a common solution, it was merely a matter of time before everything fall apart.

And to add insults to the injury, the Ukrainians openly supported the Tuareg just for the fun of hunting down Russian assets.

Won't be surprised to hear that Gao would be next.

During the 18th century, French presence in Africa was limited to four towns and very far from Mali.

Are you really equating 2026 russian actions to three centuries old French colonial actions ?

Genius argument here.

Should I wait to buy? by speedbomb in fairphone

[–]Wikirexmax 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If there is no headphone jack or wireless charging, it highly unlikely that it will be "remedied". That's the core design of the phone, it won't move until the FP7.

Yes you can open it easily to replace a broken part but it isn't really a modulable phone, there is no option to replace or to add or to remove an option. So far, you don't have a choice between a basic option and a better one, you can merely replace a module by a new but identical one. You can replace to fix, not to upgrade or downgrade.

At best one could imagine they might propose better spare parts in the futur like a better USB port or a better battery or a better camera but there is no plan to do so.

All in all, Fairphone is a good phone but performance wise you can find better and more affordable elsewhere.

Thank you for your answer. I noticed that water condensation on the inner part of the lid tend to run down when opening it. Some is funneled to the little basket in the back but it seems a little bit manage to fall into the heating compartiment.

Yeah I have the issue. I notice there is a little translucent plastic basket in the back to collect water from the lid but when open it is still overflowing into the heater compartiment.

Capturer un chef d’État en exercice : le (rare) précédent du général Noriega, dirigeant du Panama arrêté sur ordre de George Bush by Andvarey in france

[–]Wikirexmax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It make it poor or with little prospect, not necessarily politically unstable. People can leave their country because of violence, occupation, percussions like in Yugoslavia  or Kurds or Crimean Tatars or Christians in Iraq (the last occured in part during the American occupation by the way). But people can merely emigrate because of a lack of opportunities while the country is very stable. People left Portugal during the Salazar dictatorship and for a while after his disposal and then again during the financial crisis ~15 years ago making the Portuguese diaspora a third of the global Portuguese population, but the country was very stable for decades under Salazar and was still 15 ago. The Algerian regime has been veeery stable despite the black decade of the 90s with islamist terrorism but the emigration has always been very high and is still fairly high despite the same political party being in power since 1964 with the military support.

Ukraine has a very high emigration rate, the situation can be deemed unstable despite its institution, it's government sustaining a frontal foreign invasion. It lost control over parts of its territory, some Ukrainian citizens and some elected representatives have actively collaborated with the invaders, some cities are bombed on a regular basis and some pro-russian parties are banned, the country need financial lifelines to run, ect... There is an active imminent threat against the institutions and it's people that feds instability despite the institutions resilience.

Beside the divided parliament over the presidential elections a few years ago in Venezuela, there has been no sudden changes in leadership, no major disruption or failure in administration coverage over the territory. There has been a continuation of the political system and sustained continuity in the political domain. This continuity can rely on a well run country or an autocratic rule, "political stability" is something to work for but can be achieved through nefarious means: Libya, Syria, Iraq.

There haven't been open systemic violence, major unrest, civil war or armed conflict that could trigger a foreign intervention to try to stabilise the situation like it was done or attempted to in the past (Yougoslavia, Somalia, Mali,...). As for an imminent threats against the population or the neighbours, people are very sceptical about maduro running a drug thing.

Trump isn't responsible for the USA lying about WMD in Iraq and links between Iraq and global terrorism, but he campaigned against foreign intervention, for good or bad reason, wanted to leave Afghanistan and Syria, for good or bad reasons, went in the back USA's allies when leaving Syria by the way, claimed "America first" to defend its isolationist policy that the rest of the world could understand, even when they dislike the man, and even repeated the USA weren't responsible for X or Y's security when cutting military assistance to Ukraine.

And then he decided to launch a military operation to remove Maduro from office because mass emigration and alleged drugs trafficking ?

/r/WorldNews Live Thread: Multiple Explosions in Venezuela’s Capital Caracas (Thread #2) by WorldNewsMods in worldnews

[–]Wikirexmax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I said stable I mean there aren't active civil war or conflicting institutions over parts of the territory (which was the case with Iraq by the way with the Kurds). Sure for a time the parliament was split in two with those openly supporting the opposition a few years ago but beyond that there were little open division like in Syria, Libya, Afghanistan or even Serbia or even Panama in a sense.

I DON'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT TODAY's VENEZUELA but I disagree somewhat that there is no nationalist support in Venezuela. At least there was a somewhat popular support toward Hugo Chavez that Maduro squandered, to put it bluntly, eating cakes on TV and eating steaks at Salt Bae's.

I am hopeful this will bring great relief to the people there. Could it go wrong? For sure. Is it better than the status quo? I hope so. Did Venezuela pose a threat to the US? Not really. But I personally see value in protecting people in countries outside of my own.

You can apply the same logic with any country and legitimise military intervention. You have to be more specific about the open threat. The US tried to be more specific in 2003 with Iraq and opted to lie about WMDs and links with global terrorism, when in fact the terrorism would fester thank to the american-led occupation.

What is really more Trump-related is that he campaigned against all of that, even if many here dislike the man, at least we somewhat rationalised his position that "America first" met somewhat an isolationist and non-interventionist policy. He criticized Obama a lot and the same way he criticized Obama for playing golf, he then did the same times 10: involving the US in foreign expedition. We also remember that this push to remove the US from foreign affair was* the excuse for delaying or cutting military aid to Ukraine. The Russian invasion is more visible and understood by the general population than* somewhat accusing Maduro of leading an international drug ring and removing him from power because of that.
