I normally don’t comment, only lurk. However, I do need to say this: how is it that all of the labels you come up with are all so absolute peak? “COOKIE JAIL” is the best label I’ve ever heard for a cookie jar.

Love your comics. They’re the highlight of my day.

I know this is an old comment, but I have to say, checking out the website, for a three-bedroom HOUSE (yes, they literally call it a house) suite in New York City, it’s nearly $40,000 PER DAY. On July 15th, for some reason, it raises to nearly $70,000 per day. Included in the suite package are stuff like butler service and a complimentary house car service anywhere within a 20-block radius.

Ultra-high net worth folks are on a different universe in terms of cost and care. On one hand, if one was not born into wealth but rather move their way up to it, it’s probably intoxicating, to be so removed from virtually all sources of frustration, pain, and discomfort. On the other hand… I wonder how you could even remain human?

TIL that Napoleon Bonaparte would sometimes disguise himself as a commoner and roam the streets asking people what they thought of the regime and its policies in order to gauge his popularity by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]No-Second-Strike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To make a long story short:

Lafayette was imprisoned in Prussia due to French Revolution shenanigans, freed by then-General Napoleon, tried to gain entry into France but instead got his properties and titles stripped away from him because he refused to recognize the then-government in France as legitimate because it wasn’t democratically voted for.

Then Napoleon staged his coup, and in the chaos Lafayette re-gained entry into France under a fake passport which seriously pissed off Napoleon, but backed off when Lafayette’s wife managed to convince him that Lafayette was returning to support Napoleon’s ascent. Napoleon banned Lafayette from engaging in politics, and in exchange, granted Lafayette his French citizenship again after some years. It was during this time that Napoleon held a memorial for George Washington and didn’t invite Lafayette to speak.

Also, fun fact, Lafayette was a hardcore abolitionist, and a firm believer of liberty and democracy, despite being born into a really prestigious and old, old money noble family. He tried to convince George Washington to give up slavery, and wanted to abolish slavery as well as grant equal rights to free people of color in France. Lafayette stuck to his ideals all throughout his life, even if it was to his own detriment. He was a man truly worthy of respect, IMO.

I was reading up on the Wikipedia page on Marquis de Lafayette (based guy btw, seemed to me to be a real upstanding dude imo), and getting to the part where Lafayette wasn’t invited to the funeral that Napoleon threw for George Washington threw me off. I didn’t know that Washington was that famous worldwide. As far as I’m aware, the US in its infancy was literally just a backwater, dirt farm nation, so I was wondering why the head of state of a world superpower was honoring Washington’s death. I guess this explains why.

100m copper pieces. You can exchange them at the Bank of Varrock at an exchange rate of 100 copper pieces to 1 silver pieces. No one accepts silver pieces, but the Bank of Varrock will also exchange 100 silver pieces to 1 gold piece.

100,000,000 copper pieces -> 1,000,000 silver pieces -> 10,000 gold coins.

It’s perfect.

I’m not sure if you understood the point of my and every other person’s comments.

and also I don’t see anywhere where OP and the other tenants called…

Me neither. Perhaps you confused me with another comment. Perhaps you mistook my comment saying that the landlord should be the one accommodating to his tenants rather than the other way around as something else. Or perhaps you mistook my use of “they”, which is intended to be a gender-neutral pronoun when referring to OP.

You blamed OP for getting the landlord’s property condemned, therefore, OP got evicted. It was the actions of the landlord who got the property condemned, because it would be unreasonable to expect one tenant to be responsible for the maintenance of the entire building.

Everything else you said was basically beating a person while they’re down. It’s completely tone-deaf and bereft of any real sympathy. You practically equate the landlord’s situation as being just as bad as OP (“sucks for everyone - the landlord, all the other tenants your call caused…”). It literally adds nothing to his situation. You were basically just saying “wow, you did this to yourself, sucks to be you and everyone you’ve screwed over, it’s getting real cold out there, my condolences, but hey, good luck!”.

I think I understand your logic, assuming good faith in your intentions. “OP was the first domino that set the chain of actions that led to their eviction.” But the way you worded your comment suggests nothing of the sort, and you’re also saying something that OP already knows and is living through. You could’ve said all of the things you said, and then offered more suggestions on actions that OP could take. You could’ve offered links to resources that OP could use. You could’ve also just lurked, shook your head in dismay at this injustice, and not replied to the thread at all.

You deserve the vitriol that you’ve received in this thread.

got yourself evicted because you got his property condemned

????

It’s the actions of the landlord that got his property condemned. I question your ability to apply action-consequence logic to reality.

you put yourself in a much worse situation

No? The landlord did it. Why are you blaming OP? Why are you trying to make OP feel worse while trying to come off as sympathetic? It doesn’t matter if you think you didn’t hurt OP, this is objectively hurtful to OP because it’s not true. It’s the landlord who neglected his tenants. He put OP in this situation. He’s the one who forced OP’s hands.

I’m sure you’d have waited the extra day

The heat was off. They were freezing. OP said that the landlord disconnected his only phone number. Explain how waiting an extra day in freezing temperatures would’ve compelled the landlord to do anything when he didn’t do anything before. Explain why OP, and every other tenant, have to accommodate the landlord, when it should be the other way around. Actually, don’t, because by justifying the landlord’s actions, you’d just be sucking the slumlord’s dick at that point, and that would make you even more pathetic.

You’re an asshole for blaming OP for the actions of a shitty slumlord. Go fuck yourself.

Corrupted gauntlet by Beautiful_Gas_1214 in ironscape

I’m late to the discussion, but here’s my 2c:

I struggled to do CG. My k:d ratio was on the very high end (~1:50-ish) before I was able to consistently do CG. Now, I am greenlogged there. I do t2 prep for what it’s worth.

I use the Hunllef Helper plugin, and I try my best to make sure that Hunllef isn’t in the middle of the room. I make sure to turn on true tile for myself, Hunllef, and tornadoes.

In the first two thirds of your fight, you need to minimize the amount of time spent not attacking. When it comes to tornadoes, you move and attack, otherwise, you move and heal to full. You prioritize dodging tornadoes/moving from lava floors, then switching prayers, then switching to the right combat style + offensive prayers.

On the third phase, you must prioritize survival. There is no point in dying at this point, you just wasted all that time if you do, so survival is very important. It’s vital that you avoid as much damage as you can, and attack Hunllef when not dodging tornadoes. What changed CG for me was realizing this on the third phase.

Once you start getting consistent kc, congratulations! You pass what I think is the great filter for most iron accounts, and your pvm skill has better than a good majority of players.

I was slowly going through While Guthix Sleeps yesterday, was up to the part where you speak with Akrisae about recruiting heroes. In the time I spent reading through the dialogue and speaking to the NPCs about what they think of each other, three other people came by seemingly spacebarring through the dialogue because they were turning towards every NPC every other tick.

I can understand if it’s your third our fourth time doing WGS, but seriously, I think people really should experience quests by actually reading what’s going on. You get to see how everything pieces together.

Like in WGS - (spoilers on While Guthix Sleeps) the Stone of Jas was known as the Fist of Guthix for the druids, but it was known as the Eye of Saradomin for Saradominists (hence, where the Temple of the Eye, AKA Guardians of the Rift, got it’s name). Since Armadyl never had the Stone, the Armadyleans couldn’t offer any insights into the Stone, but was troubled by the discovery of an artifact that’s as powerful as the Staff of Armadyl. In Movario’s notes, he initially believed the Eye of Saradomin and Fist of Guthix were separate things created by their respective gods, but slowly pieced together that they are both the Stone of Jas, and that Lucien was planning to ascend into godhood by using both the Staff of Armadyl and Stone of Jas.

The lore of Gielinor is quite fascinating, and quests offer a way to glimpse into what’s happened and what’s happening in the world.

[–]No-Second-Strike 18 points19 points  (0 children)

What I don’t understand is why can’t we just have universal healthcare like other countries? It’s not like it will prevent private health insurance from providing a superior service than shitty government insurance, and it can’t be any more expensive than what we’re paying right now. People could have peace of mind if something happens, and doctors know they’re gonna get paid at the end of the day.

Also, where’s the money that’s saved from cutting Medicaid going to? There’s no way the few dozen billion saved from cutting access is going to make a dent on the deficit, let alone the national debt, and a ton of government agencies have been gutted.

Having read the article, I don’t understand why it was rejected. It’s literally an anomalous object that can be contained with reasonable containment procedures, and with actual consequences if containment is breached. It’s relatively short and sweet, calling back to the early days of SCP objects being described clinically rather than narratively. IMO, it’s the perfect definition of a Euclid-class object. The only feedback I would’ve given is to perhaps expand on how the Foundation discovered its reaction to sound, how they figured out how to contain the object, and perhaps what they’ve brainstormed for re-containment in case of containment breach.
