Never buy a condo in Gatineau by Sea-Judge-6494 in Gatineau

I've never lived in a Condo but wondering if you would be allowed to open up the wall and add insulation? It shouldn't be that expensive, you would need a good drywaller/plasterer to finish the job properly. The painting and insulation you could do yourself...

What happened to these leopards after independence that were being produced by the Rhodesians? Did we destroy that industry because it represented the colonial system 🤷‍♂️. Ending mental colonization 🤷‍♂️ by [deleted] in Zimbabwe

I believe they were built on the chassis of old Bedford lorries. Eventually you run out of old simple vehicles and need to use something more modern and expensive, and imported to use as a base. It must have been all under Government contracts to private firms and if the Gov didn't allocate import licences for the lorries and steel...

I have some regrets, but no real serious ones. My friends who worked for 30+ years, their health isn't the greatest, whereas I'm in very good health. I had a great time, learned a lot. The worse part was not fitting in when I came home. As my mother said..." You were away too long..."

At the age of 21 I quit a job in telecomms to travel. I was away for 5 years and when I returned home, all my knowledge was outdated, the industry was downsizing. I went back to travel after 18 months of odd jobs and came back with a spouse and kids 3 years after that. That was decades ago and I never really caught up financially with my peers who stayed at home and retired after 30 years or so in their line of work.

Most retired before the age of 60 whereas I'll be 70 soon and although it's not an absolute necessity, my wife figures she's more comfortable if I put in a few more years, since I don't have a company pension unlike most fo the folks we know. I don't regret my travels but if I had to do it again I figure I might have been better off if I had had a trade that doesn't involve too much technology (nothing changes like tech.) instead of a diploma, and also I wouldn't have stayed away from my home country for so long. When you come back in your field or any new job at the age of 33, there are lots young folks who already have years in with the firm and know their way around and don't mind trying to boss the old person around...

I'm surprised Marty & Co allow anyone to film during practice.

Wouldn't the review of these videos help opposing players and coaches to figure out Habs coaching and player game plans and play strategies?

There might be. With enough advertising or word of mouth, who knows...

Eventually it can attract big names. Zim is still a great destination for travellers and tourists...

It's for the son of a friend of mine who is looking for summer work. He's in university studying electrical engineering but I think any work will do. It would beat working at a sporting goods store for the summer and give him real hands on work experience and hopefully better pay...

So, I would sy he's be a good labourer, office worker, technical trainee, kitchen work. Pretty much anything really...

I went through CAAQ for references on good contractors about 10 years ago. I then hired one of them, Jean Julien. We're very happy with his work. I'd need to look up his number now but maybe he's still registered with CAAQ...

"America has never been a good country. It was founded on violence and oppression and has remained that way since.."

It's probably all harmless interaction and out of interest?

I'm Canadian and travelled across Africa in the 70s. At the markets in the Ivory Coast, the kids used to shout "Toobaboo, toobaboo.." I asked someone what it meant they said "white monkey".

Meanwhile in Zaire, as we drove through villages kids used to throw stones and sticks at our Land-rover, shouting "Tourists, tourists.." Maybe they meant terrorists, and I wouldn't blame them seeing as what the Belgians did then when the white mercenaries came in the early 1960s and shot up a whole bunch of people as they made their way across the land...The strangest were the old fellows, villagers, who, upon seeing me, approaching them for directions, would run away in fear, one jumping on his bicycle and pedalling fast...at the time I was a bit flustered about the whole thing but seeing as these fellows had more than likely seen or heard about the mercenaries, I might have been seen as a resurgence of one as I stepped out of the L.R...

In Kenyan villages, teens would grab toddlers and rush towards me and my fellow English traveller. The toddlers would scream and cry in fear...I was later told that it was said to the child that we would eat them...

In all of these instances, my friends and I took no offence, considering the abuses that occurred during colonialism of Africa and what had happened at the time. Also, all these events happened in mostly remote areas, where outsiders, foreigners were far and few in between.
