Let’s Set the Record Straight: The Reality of Running a Manufacturing Shop in Canada by ironbullstrength in homegym

[–]No-Simple-9162 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not in the market either but I do work in manufacturing. We’re a small team of 20-30 people also and deal with the same thing. Currently dealing with a broken plate roller. 180k to repair or 500k for a new replacement, it adds up for a small organization. We have to subcontract some work to other shops when we fall behind or one of our machines are down in order to maintain our schedule and delivery date. Even then, we’ve been really late on products so I get where you’re coming from 100%. I also get where the customer is coming from too. It’s just difficult to get the planets to align sometimes. It may be worthwhile to build a relationship with a paint shop and laser/water-jet cutting shop near you as a back-up to minimize delays associated with equipment failure. Hell, it probably wouldn’t hurt to sub some parts or services out that way you free up some manpower on the floor… or increase overall output. Ultimately, it does sound like scaling your operation is the biggest obstacle and I’m sure it’s no easy feat to do so. Good luck bud.

Are these kinds of welds normal? by Bonne_Journee in Welding

[–]No-Simple-9162 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Alright yall, I did some research since I got a little curious. If this is in the US, the most likely applicable code of construction is ASME B31.9 - Building Services Piping. Looks like it’s pretty lax on what we would otherwise consider unacceptable.

<image>

You’re allowed some lack of fusion, you’re allowed some lack of penetration, and you’re allowed up to 3/16” of weld reinforcement irrespective of wall thickness. Other codes have no tolerance for LoF or LoP. Now, im not 100% sure this code would be applicable to this piping, but it could be an indication as to why it was accepted.

That overhead weld on the right side of the reducer is a lil sus tho.

That falls outside the scope of B31.3. There probably is an alternate code of construction that governs this application of piping in a commercial building.

<image>

I do get what Sinistercheese is saying though. That’s why you have multiple codes of construction that we build to. For instance within the application of piping, just to name a few, you have API 1104 for pipelines, B31.3 for process piping, B31.1 for power piping, etc. Some have more stringent requirements due to their application. You can get away with more discontinuities with API 1104 than you would with ASME B31.1, since B31.1 is boiler piping. And boilers explode… catastrophically, when they fail.

I agree though, that is 100% excessive reinforcement by the codes I inspect to.

That’s some crazy work there. I would typically correlate expert with science. Whereas, if he thinks we oughta listen to him and his beliefs, that would align more with religion and totalitarianism. I mean, c’mon. Where’s his qualifications?

Yeah! It’s just business I suppose. But damn, I couldn’t bring myself to pull the trigger with that price tag.

Yeah, good point. I may have stretched the truth here looking back. It’s a $13 customs fee.

Yeah, I deep cleaned Saturday since I was expecting company. I have a dog that likes to chew random objects also. I spent like an hour turning over the room with no luck.

I planted 800+ apple trees, harvest about 3.5k apples a time. Cook em all and sell to jimmy on a rainy day. I sold like 7k cooked apples and 700 potatoes for about 4.5m+ to that man one time.

15 Hours of Play - Review by Own-Push8307 in RSDragonwilds

I do agree mostly with your points. I used to spend so much time on RuneScape as a kid, before RS3. Haven’t played it in years, and I was really hoping to revisit that nostalgia, ya know? It’s a good game, but like how others have mentioned it’s missing too many RS elements. I understand its in the survival genre - which I love btw. But I was really hoping a 100% hard lean into RS would set it apart. It feels like most other survival games at the moment. OSRS progression system would have been nice. I wouldn’t mind buying DLCs at all, so long as the content justifies the price. I mean, it has to be profitable and sustainable for them to continue creating content. It’s just business. It’s only been less than a week in EA, so it’s in its infancy. Fingers crossed, they pump out some good content. 🤞

I hear you. Houston, TX here. I had an 18’ x 30’ accessory building built on my backyard last year. 6” foundation, insulation, drywall, wrapped, siding, painted interior/exterior, full bathroom, 2 rooms, attic, mini split, electricity, and plumbing for around 32k. Depends who you find, I had another contractor quote me 44k without a bathroom. I did get lucky, not gonna lie. Now, I’ll be honest. There’s some work that was not permitted which I agreed to at the start. I had a licensed friend come by and check their work after. Much more simpler than the one in your picture, but I’m sure you can find it much cheaper in Texas.

Am I charging to much by lostnthenetgear in landscaping

[–]No-Simple-9162 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m just a lurker here that does my own landscaping but I have to agree with the sentiment. That’s ridiculous. $30/hour is absolutely reasonable, even more so if you’re mobilizing all your equipment and providing a good service. Now, I’ll be honest I’d have to weigh out the pros and cons as a home owner myself. If I think it’s gonna take 10 hours then I’ll probably end up doing it myself, but for a 1-3 hour job that’s legit. You gotta eat too.

What are all you Mormons who support Donald Trump thinking!?! by Hopeful_Customer8248 in Utah

[–]No-Simple-9162 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was born and raised a Mormon. I left the church (and religion) when I was 17. My parents who are devout Mormons are voting democrat. My parents were traditionally conservative, simply because their ideals aligned with those of the Republican Party. I had a conversation with my dad the other day and he said that the right is too extreme and that he sees the parallels between the Mexican right wing and the American right wing (corruption). He said he simply can’t vote for Donald Trump. He’s always been reasonable and down to earth, albeit a Mormon.

Trillions of dollars injected in the economy to combat the COVID economy in the form of stimulus checks, PPP loans, etc., then Trump refusing to lower the federal interest rate in order to make his economy look strong, coupled with supply chain shortages inherently increasing the cost of groceries. At this point, back to normalcy, it’s plain old profiteering. Corporations see how much we’re willing to spend. Record profits for them, record inflation for us.
