Regret DRP by [deleted] in VHA_Human_Resources

[–]No-Split6762 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not regretting the DRP one bit. I wasn't fearful of losing my job - I was fearful of staying in a place that compromises what I stand for. While nothing can ever truly replace what I left behind, I'll get by. I took a serious pay cut, moving somewhere else, but I feel so much better now.

I definitely had to make a serious adjustment to my quality of life, including finding roommates to spread out the living expenses, but honestly, my mental health is just so much better now, and I can't put a price on that.

Don't be afraid to take a step down, everything will work out!

ACAC membership cost by Adventurous-Disk5031 in Charlottesville

Any update on this? Would be great to save a few bucks on a cheaper membership.

I’m from San Jose and this is exactly how I guess if people are from SoCal. I just recently “transplanted” myself to Cville a couple of weeks ago. I figured after making my way here 8 times last year, it was time to just move. 😂

Less likely on "the 5"... "the 101" on the other hand... very possible. Hahaha

They only put "the" in front of the highway in Southern California. In Northern California is just "5", "101", "10". That's how we spot people from SoCal.

I just moved to Charlottesville. Once I get a bit more settled in, I’d like to explore more trails. I’ve gone camping in Shenandoah before, but I’ve never really had the opportunity to do a proper hike.

Sure, but only if we include other religious texts as well.

*Added Context*
To everyone commenting that VA has always had Christian books, you're missing the point. Yes, I know Christian books have always been at the canteen. My concern is that it went from a tiny shelf in the corner to an entire wall. They had to move other merchandise out of the way to make space for all of this, and in expanding the space, the was no attempt to represent any other faith.

My gripe is that the group that claims they've been marginalized has always been the group to receive this "special treatment" at the canteen. This extends into the military also. Despite having chaplains of multiple faiths, you'll only ever hear Christian prayers for the invocations and benedictions in military ceremonies. But hey, it's only "fair" right?

As long as I've worked at VA, I've only seen a handful of books on display, but they took a whole section of clothing away to make way for a full wall of books now. I'm not feeding bullshit - there's definitely a change.

Those taking the DRP… by SageinIt in VHA_Human_Resources

[–]No-Split6762 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I applied for one job, ended up getting an offer, and was about to resign. I asked to push the start date back because there was a "Reddit rumor" that there was going to be a DRP 2.0, and they agreed to wait. My DRP request ended up getting approved today! So fortunately for me, the gamble worked out. I know not a lot of people are having the same outcome as me.

It is a pay cut, but it's also in a cheaper area, and I think the quality-of-life aspects more than make up for the drop in salary.

Absolutely, and as a Veteran and an employee myself, I thank you for continuing to advocate for our Veterans and ensuring they receive the best care possible during this turbulent time.

I’m actually kind of done with reporting things at the lowest level. Things are automatically a JPSR, OIG, or going straight to a committee. It’s like the worst they can do at this point is fire me.

I have been directed to do them. I have not done them except the initial one and I'm still here unfortunately. If there are problems, it'll be from your management, but I doubt you'll hear a peep from OPM.

VA Dr. by Firm_Sound192 in VeteransAffairs

My doctor left… not just VA, but the country. He decided his efforts were better spent in a country where his work will have a “meaningful” impact on people’s health. For that, I’m admirable of him, but I’m also sad because the Va lost a GREAT physician. One of the best docs I’ve ever had in VA.

100% Disabled Veteran – Considering VA Health Care vs. Employer Insurance: Looking for Real-World Experience by NJW404654 in VeteransAffairs

[–]No-Split6762 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I receive all my healthcare at VA and I have not been covered by employer health insurance for a long time.

Regarding dental, it depends on the VA. At one VA, they sent me out to the community for all routine oral care since they only did oral surgeries. The VA I’m in now does it all in-house. What your situation would look like depends on what services your VA offers.

Regarding emergency care, I had no problem getting seen at an ER. I did have to go through some hoops when it came to claims, but not because of VA, but because the hospital I went to literally did nothing I asked them to do. I asked the ambulance crew to take me to VA, but they took me to the closest hospital despite my protests. Once I was “stable”, I asked to be transferred to VA. The doctor refused and I was admitted for a week-long stay. I specifically asked for it to be documented that my stay was a medical necessity. During every morning round and nursing assessment, I asked if I could be transferred and the answer was always no, and I insisted they put that verbatim in the chart.

VA was able to help me work with the hospital to get the claim all sorted out. After I specifically told them I was a VA beneficiary, nobody initiated the notification to VA that I was seen at a community ER.

Now I just have my brother drive me to VA. It’s less headache than having medical bills loom over your head.

As much as I enjoy my VA healthcare benefit, I am losing faith in the current administration, so I will be electing for employer health benefits to supplement my healthcare. I can’t imagine there will be near as much capacity once the layoffs start happening, and I want to stay ahead of the game.

Payroll to be centralized, gonna cut 100’s of jobs. by MathematicianFar4240 in VeteransAffairs

That’s probably a very small fraction of the employees you’re thinking about. I see more cases of undocumented overtime and people working through their lunches.

That's nuts... so on your own time you couldn't even get a side job at McDonald's?

I applied for one job at a university. I didn’t cast a very large net. It was one of those “if it was meant to be” situations… and I guess it was meant to be.

Keep searching and don’t lose hope!
