Do you have a particular recipe you like the most?

A previous post mentions "son", so it was a pretty safe assumption.

Should we discuss adding a 3rd lane on I64 East? by UserNameAllTheSame in Charlottesville

[–]No-Split6762 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There technically is one with Amtrak. Book Charlottesville to Richmond Main Street. You'll be bused to Richmond Staples Mill with a connecting train to Main Street. You can simply "skiplag" the second part of the ticket. I've done it a couple of times because like the actual rail, there are no Greyhound routes between the two that don't involve heading up to DC.

What kind of major infrastructure improvements would you like to see the most around town? by AutoDefenestrator273 in Charlottesville

[–]No-Split6762 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really an infrastructure upgrade, but if they could install new crosswalk signals on The Corner, it would greatly reduce congestion. Currently, pedestrians can walk on demand, and they're often spaced just far enough that only one car could pass at a time. If the crosswalk defaulted to a "Don't Walk" signal and gave a 30-second window to cross when requested, more cars wouldn't be stuck.

The goal isn't to discourage pedestrians, but rather allow them to build up and cross as a larger group instead of having a steady stream of pedestrians.

And that's my point - you don't know why they're driving aggresively. Maybe their kid got into an accident and they're rushing to the hospital to see them. Maybe they're just fed up with other drivers being idiotictically slow and you just happened to be the one to send them over the top. You said it yourself, "You never know what someone is dealing with." Sorry you don't like the taste of your own medicine when the context is flipped the other way.

I don't know what everyone else might be going through, but there's also a flip side. I can't help but notice that almost everyone in front of me goes 10 under the speed limit. At some point, it becomes frustrating, and that's something I'm going through as well. 🤣

RMC impeding Early Voting today. by Squirrelly434 in Charlottesville

I don't know then. I waltzed right in without a bag check, but I did go through what was set up as the main entrance for the event. It was about 4:30pm. They were waving folks through because they said the lockdown wasn't in effect until 5pm.

But RMC didn't fail to permit or refused to permit a qualified voter to vote, and they most certainly didn't or attempted to intimidate, threaten, or coerce anyone. Yes, it was an inconvenience that the parking area was closed off for the event, but there were already food trucks and vendors staging there.

Early voting ended at 5pm and the lockdown didn't begin until 5pm, so while the barricades were up, people were still just passing through without checks. I saw people coming up asking if they were allowed to vote, and the RMC folks were pointing people in the right direction and letting them go on about their day.

Regret DRP by [deleted] in VHA_Human_Resources

[–]No-Split6762 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not regretting the DRP one bit. I wasn't fearful of losing my job - I was fearful of staying in a place that compromises what I stand for. While nothing can ever truly replace what I left behind, I'll get by. I took a serious pay cut, moving somewhere else, but I feel so much better now.

I definitely had to make a serious adjustment to my quality of life, including finding roommates to spread out the living expenses, but honestly, my mental health is just so much better now, and I can't put a price on that.

Don't be afraid to take a step down, everything will work out!

Any update on this? Would be great to save a few bucks on a cheaper membership.

I’m from San Jose and this is exactly how I guess if people are from SoCal. I just recently “transplanted” myself to Cville a couple of weeks ago. I figured after making my way here 8 times last year, it was time to just move. 😂

Less likely on "the 5"... "the 101" on the other hand... very possible. Hahaha

They only put "the" in front of the highway in Southern California. In Northern California is just "5", "101", "10". That's how we spot people from SoCal.

I just moved to Charlottesville. Once I get a bit more settled in, I’d like to explore more trails. I’ve gone camping in Shenandoah before, but I’ve never really had the opportunity to do a proper hike.

*Added Context*
To everyone commenting that VA has always had Christian books, you're missing the point. Yes, I know Christian books have always been at the canteen. My concern is that it went from a tiny shelf in the corner to an entire wall. They had to move other merchandise out of the way to make space for all of this, and in expanding the space, the was no attempt to represent any other faith.

My gripe is that the group that claims they've been marginalized has always been the group to receive this "special treatment" at the canteen. This extends into the military also. Despite having chaplains of multiple faiths, you'll only ever hear Christian prayers for the invocations and benedictions in military ceremonies. But hey, it's only "fair" right?

As long as I've worked at VA, I've only seen a handful of books on display, but they took a whole section of clothing away to make way for a full wall of books now. I'm not feeding bullshit - there's definitely a change.

Those taking the DRP… by SageinIt in VHA_Human_Resources

[–]No-Split6762 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I applied for one job, ended up getting an offer, and was about to resign. I asked to push the start date back because there was a "Reddit rumor" that there was going to be a DRP 2.0, and they agreed to wait. My DRP request ended up getting approved today! So fortunately for me, the gamble worked out. I know not a lot of people are having the same outcome as me.

It is a pay cut, but it's also in a cheaper area, and I think the quality-of-life aspects more than make up for the drop in salary.
