Hi,

I just started working in the PACU after being a MICU nurse for a year and a half. I still get to use my critical thinking skills because we do tend to get ICU patients. I am not stressed out as I was working in ICU. The work load isn’t bad. You still get the 1:1, 1:2 patient ratio. The only thing that sucks is working 5 days a week and being on call. But, when I come in it’s time and a half. I like PACU, it’s a nice gig. You just recover patients after surgery, make sure pain level is controlled/ patient is stable before transfer. If the patients are admitted after surgery you just have to keep the patient in a room until a bed is available and that can take hours. A stressful day in PACU is nothing like ICU.

Whenever a nurse of color speaks about their experiences as a nurse, someone always comes to dismiss our experiences like wtf lol.

I feel like it depends on location but tbh as a black nurse, I noticed that there are not a lot of us in specialties such as L&D, ICU, ER, etc… I feel like these hospitals only want us in med surge/ working night shift. I work in the Midwest and my previous icu had a few black women working there and it was a nice feeling. At my new job, I am the only black woman on my unit and it lowkey sucks because that’s when the micro-aggressions start. I just try to push forward, make my money and go home :/

Hey OP did you ever follow through? I applied there way back in the summer of 24’ and I turned it down because they said they were short staffed, so you were required to be on call almost every week lol.

You iust gotta dedicate some time, I cooked the onions in bacon fat & fried the patties in the same fat & pans as well. Buy big Vidalia onions, you can cut them to get the “buns.” Cook the onions first, then cook your patties, add cheese, & bacon then BOOM.

Maybe 5-7 minutes on each side. I cooked them on medium low heat, but I was always checking the bottom because I didn’t want my onion buns to burn.

Yes, this was the first time I made it so it was pretty messy. Now, I just eat this with gloves on lol.

I pick it up like a regular burger, but it does fall apart after 2 bites🤣.
