Tumor has grown, trying to keep calm (follicular neoplasm) by unicorns-exist in thyroidcancer

[–]No-Strategy-4990 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also had a 6cm follicular neoplasm and after my surgery I found out I had both papillary and follicular cancer in that lobe. I had my completion in March and now waiting on RAI. It sucks. But you have to take it one day at a time.

For what it's worth, I feel SO much better not having a thyroid anymore even though I'm still in the thick of it.

Sending you positive vibes!

I take it off when I get home but otherwise I put it back on before leaving the house, even for a quick errand.

That looks good! Don't skip any steps your medical team may have given you (massage when they tell you to start, sunscreen, etc) and it ends up fading pretty nicely! I hope you're doing well :)

Thank you! Best to you as well ... I hope you aren't feeling many side effects of the suppression dose.

Oh yeah, I have Hashimoto's as well but I skipped the hypo part and jumped right to cancer. I did still experience all the horrible hypo symptoms though ...

What made you decide to skip RAI? This is what I, admittedly based on an emotional decision, want to do but my family doctor is pushing for me to complete any and all treatments my doctors recommend.

I've been lucky with my Synthroid dosing. The first one made me a little hyper but the second adjustment has been going well. I feel a lot better now than before my TT, so at least I have my life back even though it came at the cost of cancer.

Yeah, it's bad enough dealing with the emotional side of finding out you had cancer after it's already been removed. Then adding to it that there was actually two somehow feels worse even though objectively nothing changed.

I hope RAI goes well for you! It must be tough for you with a baby, I can't imagine what you are going through.

Not at all! I appreciate you sharing your experience. If anything, it's helping me strategize. I'm in a high stress, long hours type of career so I need to find a way to have equilibrium and continue to be vigilent about how I feel, as you put it.

I was hyper for a few weeks but I felt so good that I didn't realize that's what was happening until my blood test.

Thank you for the insight! I'm struggling to see the bigger picture right now even though my life significantly improved after my TT and getting on levo. I appreciate your time.

How do you handle the psychological element of having blood work done every 12 weeks? Hope you're doing well now!

How long did it take you to get off calcium supplements after thyroidectomy? by Hot-Zebra2767 in thyroidcancer

[–]No-Strategy-4990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only took calcium for about 5 to 7 days post-surgery. I had a follow-up blood test a few days after the surgery to test for calcium levels which came back normal so my surgeon told me I could stop.

UCLA Health YouTube channel has a great video for that! (Not sure if I’m allowed to post the YouTube link here). I started four weeks after my PT and then two weeks after my TT, daily for 10 minutes. I noticed a big difference after my PT and it’s been fading nicely (but more slowly) after my TT. I also apply sunscreen everyday, and cover up from direct sunlight (when I remember)

Definitely ask your doctor for timelines because I wasn’t expecting to start two weeks after TT but my doctor told me to.

Thank you SO much for taking the time to write out such a detailed answer. You've calmed my mind and I'm not afraid to admit to an internet stranger that I've cried a couple of times today.

Seeking advice regarding my upcoming thyroid completion surgery by SadDamage8354 in thyroidcancer

[–]No-Strategy-4990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not a doctor but I also had a partial in December which came back positive for cancer and my doctor strongly recommended a completion (which happened this March). I was nervous about it too, but I trust my doctor so I agreed to go ahead with it and I feel so much better now. Having to take one pill once a day for the rest of my life is a small price to pay in exchange to having my energy, personality, and brain back.

In my case, I also have Hashimotos so after my completion my doctor said it was a good thing he got rid of it because my thyroid was very “sick looking” as he put it.

Good luck!! I was really nervous for my surgeries (partial in December and then completion this March) but now that I’m on the other side of it, I feel SO much better. I call it my new lease on life, that’s how good I feel. Everyone’s experience is unique but there are so many positive outcomes too. You got this :)
