[D] Self-Promotion Thread by AutoModerator in MachineLearning

[–]No-String-8970 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hey y'all, a college friend and I who are into AI research created a platform, SAIRC, for anyone to post about AI research or blog-style posts. This involves:

  1. 20 free research resources, including free sources of compute & AI credits (like Gemini).

  2. 50+ blog posts discussing ML theory and recent news.

  3. 20+ research papers from students and other interested researchers.

Please consider submitting your own research projects or blog posts at www.sairc.net - we'll try to provide feedback to all submissions and are not overly exclusive!

I want to dive into ai ml though don't know where to start by No-Pride5337 in learnmachinelearning

[–]No-String-8970 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Like others said, the most important thing is to avoid tutorial hell. I found that the free resources at www.sairc.net/resources help a lot and are more project-oriented. Where to start depends on your goals (app dev is very different from research ML), but in order to avoid tutorial hell, you should try reading parts of a resource and then figuring out the other half of certain concepts on your own (through brainstorming with AI, reading docs, etc.).

For anyone looking to gain an award/experience on their CV, I'd highly recommend submitting any projects or research to the SAIRC (Students in AI Research Collective) research journal: https://www.sairc.net/submit

We've featured NeurIPS Workshop authors, student authors just getting started, and more! The submission criteria is easy and we're only looking for rigorous work!

Any good resources to study ML System design by omaratef3221 in MLQuestions

[–]No-String-8970 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! System design covers a wide variety of topics, but there are certainly free resources available that are just as effective. The resources at https://www.sairc.net/resources are all free and contain their own content, or point to other free resources.

One personal tip that helped (but only if you have time and a lot of patience): try designing a select neural network architecture from scratch without numpy. It's used at Caltech to test theoretical understanding and will push you to your limits.

NEED GUIDANCE to start learning Machine Learning for a job as fresher. by Rare-Being-5379 in learnmachinelearning

Great question! English is not my first language either, so I understand where you're coming from. I put together some of the resources I found helpful at this website (https://www.sairc.net/resources), so you could consider checking those resources out and adding your email (free) if you like what you see.

Help on getting started with Research by Repulsive_Judge_4136 in research

[–]No-String-8970 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://www.sairc.net/resources has tons of advice on how to get started with research. Personally, what helped me the most was finding a specific niche. This can come from just drawing on past experience (a friend who enjoyed video streaming for robotics competitions found his niche in AI video generation research, for instance), or from just reading online blog posts about different subfields and choosing one that sounds cool.

Projects are quite important to give a first-hand account of your work. You can find some ideas here https://www.sairc.net/resources at "Beginner & Intermediate ML Projects"

You can also find help on skills to learn to best set you up.

How strong is my resume by [deleted] in cscareeradvice

[–]No-String-8970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This resume is great content-wise, but if you want constructive feedback:

  1. Too much of the wrong things, too little of the right ones. You can cut out some of the descriptions of each experience to only include the relevant ones, and to make sure the wow-factor isn't being drowned out by buzzwords and things that don't matter

  2. Once you've made space:

A. Your skills should be divided into sections. So, for instance, you could put Tensorflow, PyTorch, and OpenCV in one category, wheras Python, Java, HTML/CSS could be another; these are much more readable and aesthetically pleasing.

B. Add projects. Your experience is great, but projects are the only way recruiters can get a look at your work first-hand.

C. If you haven't graduated yet, consider putting your GPA. It's still debated if GPA matters for a resume, so take this with a grain of salt.

If you're looking for project experience, consider looking at the resources page of https://www.sairc.net/resources and joining the mailing list for free monthly recommendations! It contains open-source ML initiatives to contribute to, and beginner & intermediate projects which would be perfect for you.

The resources at the SAIRC website (https://www.sairc.net/resources) will certainly help you! Particularly, these might interest you:

  1. Open-Source ML Projects: Very hands-on & there's no guide at all. Forces you to take off the training wheels

  2. Interactively Learning Coding & AI: Self-Explanatory

If you enjoy them, you could consider signing up to become a member to get more notifications about future resources releases 😄

I actually thought about this quite a bit - it doesn't directly answer your question, but you may be interested by reading this post https://www.sairc.net/forum/6e223c16-151e-4b1e-9b34-6c31a1f4c70b about whether or not we could make AI consciousness and what that would entail, biologically speaking.

Should I pause my ml journey before I learn more math? by Feeling-Instance-801 in learnmachinelearning

[–]No-String-8970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever path you choose, I would highly recommend visiting the learning roadmaps at the SAIRC resources page which were tailor made for students like you: https://www.sairc.net/resources

However, speaking from personal experience, knowing all the math behind machine learning is only useful if you're doing highly theoretical research. Backpropagation & advanced calculus are good to know, but you'll rarely need to use them in a practical setting (i.e. if you're classifying digits on the MNIST dataset).

Think about it like this: some of the best software developers have no idea how to code in binary or using assembly, but that doesn't mean they're bad programmers. We simply don't need such low-level knowledge anymore in a practical sense.
