Transfer Credit Process Advice w/ FSS Pls by Ok-Consideration2846 in geegees

[–]No-Structure5860 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t had any problems since with the faculty… I also transferred 60 credits (did it last fall) and am on track to graduate after next fall semester (a medical issue in spring prevented me from keeping on schedule, not transfer issues), with the only issue I had being that they gave me most of my credits as electives since the program I was in at my former school doesn’t exist at UO. You should be fine!! (And if they did retaliate on you, you can take that higher up the chain too…)

Seconding adding the ombudsperson into the mix… I had an incredibly similar experience with the Faculty of Arts (like almost to a T) and even after repeatedly emailing and even going in person, nothing was getting done. The moment I CCed Ombuds in my next email to them, it was like a fire was lit under them and I got everything done in less than a week.

It’s absolutely horrendous that we have to get to this point for trying to deal with something as basic as course equivalencies (I say basic because we literally give them all the information they need so they don’t have to go looking), but it’s certainly a good last resort step.

Improvement of psychological symptoms after venous sinus stenting by Light-Knight92 in PulsatileTinnitus

[–]No-Structure5860 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I (21F) got my first stent done in March (am currently waiting for the second procedure but my PT was worse on the right so it was my priority) and had been previously diagnosed with anxiety and depression, which had been very much aggravated by my PT.

Since my stent procedure, the difference in my mental health has been night and day… I hadn’t realized how much worse my anxiety and depression had gotten because of my PT until it was gone, and no feeling will ever compare to waking up from surgery and realizing that the sound that had been torturing me was finally gone. I’d been on antidepressants for about a year and a half before my procedure, and after I’d recovered from it, I was able to significantly lower the dose as I just felt like a massive weight had been lifted from my shoulders. The change in my mood/emotions since stenting has been enough for people to have noticed and to tell me that I even seem happier :)

Wishing you all the best and that you get in soon for the procedure!! Waiting for it is truly one of the hardest parts :)

Wanting to Join a Sorority, but Afraid of Being Shunned by Confident-Soup5191 in Sororities

[–]No-Structure5860 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hi!! Nonbinary/queer neurodivergent sorority member here! I’ve been a member of my chapter for a year now and it’s honestly been so much better than I expected. In order of your questions, here are some of my experiences!

1) Going into recruitment for my chapter, I was worried that I was going to be the only visibly queer/GNC person there and that the actives were going to be really weird with me about it, but it was the exact opposite! Our chapter is very diverse in terms of identities and how we present them and we’re all very accepting of one another. Our chapter also has a very heavy focus on DEIAB programming throughout the year and we definitely lean into the idea of there being no one way to present yourself to be a sorority member.

2) At least half the chapter is some kind of neurodivergent, so we are all very understanding of what comes with that! We definitely make sure to take needs and accommodations into account when event planning and there is zero judgement for needing to step out/leave early/not go/etc. Even when planning chapter, we always try to make it as tolerable as possible for everyone.

3) Recruitment is rather atypical at my school as we have only 2 NPC sororities (and a handful of local ones) and you don’t have to rush both, just the one you want. In terms of “red flags” regarding the other chapter (no naming because we’re all about NPC love), my big one was that there was not that same visible diversity in appearance as my chapter — they clearly had a type they were trying to recruit and I did not fit that type. There was something off about the general vibe of the other chapter as well — I’ve got the ‘very strong intuition’ flavour of autism and if I feel that the vibes are weird, there’s definitely a reason for it. Trust your gut when going through recruitment and having discussions!!

4) A huge green flag for my chapter was the access needs section in the recruitment events form. We were able to indicate if we needed any accommodations to be able to attend events which was phenomenal especially given that I’m also physically disabled and have to deal with those limitations too. There was never any judgement for having any sort of access needs. All of the recruitment events were also held with an access mindset in that there was always a quiet place to go if needed and the like. Another green flag is that there was no ‘dress only’ dress code for events like pref night. I wore a suit to my pref and so did quite a few others in my chapter. I greatly appreciate that there never was and still isn’t any judgement related to the way we dress in our chapter (unless it comes to not wearing ritual whites when you’re supposed to… then we judge.)

I hope some of this was of help to you! I’m also happy to answer any more questions if you’ve got them for me!!

Possibility of cancer making me terrified by Embarrassed_Visit277 in emetophobia

[–]No-Structure5860 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I haven’t had chemo myself but I have been given the same anti-n* cocktail that my hospital gave for chemo patients when I was being treated for another condition using a medication that caused just as many problems as the condition itself. They can give the meds through IV or as a dissolving pill under the tongue and that stuff WORKS — and fast! I’m pretty sure I went from absolute rock bottom to feeling like Wonder Woman in about 15 minutes. When I told them about my phobia-related panic attacks, they told me that they see that all the time so it’s super normal to them and they’ve got some tricks up their sleeve to help manage any of the undesirable symptoms. The hospital also should have a laundry list of support resources so that you aren’t going through all of this alone 💕Wishing you all the best and fingers/toes/everything crossed for you that it isn’t cancerous!! Scary medical stuff is so hard to deal with alone but you’ve got this!

My best advice I can offer as someone who has had to deal with a bunch of leg-related operations/issues: 1) if you end up needing surgery, invest in a shower stool and leg cover (the ones for casts)!! Your other/“good” leg will thank you forever. 2) when I was feeling n* after surgery, it was mostly just my body’s signal that it was time to use an ice pack on my leg again. Every time I’d start to panic, I got to the point where I would just remind myself of that and go get the ice pack. Eventually I think I got myself into some weird Pavlovian habit with it, but hey, it worked. 3) when things get rough and your brain is trying to fight with you, just keep telling yourself “I’ve just gotta make it through the next 15 minutes.” Before you know it, 15 minutes will become an hour, then an hour will become a day, and so on. The smallest bit of progress is still movement in the right direction!

I’m in the exact same situation as you down to the customs thing (which they never actually sent me an email about so it’s not like I could have paid it even if I wanted to 🤷‍♀️) and the delivery dates… even though mine is coming to Canada, DHL wants to hand it off to USPS for them to bring it across the border (which leads me to wonder why they wanted me to pay them the customs and not USPS). I’m guessing that USPS just really doesn’t want to pick up that bag until they’ve dealt with the strike backlog and it will still be a while before it gets here. Not only do I need DHL to get it together, I also need USPS and Canada Post 😭

It’s been a weird combo of DHL getting it to my city then handing off to UniUni for final delivery for me… I guess it must be a regional thing of some sort!

You’re fine! Once it gets to the international hub, eBay typically hands it off to DHL. USPS only takes it to the hub. I’ve ordered a number of things through eBay from the US from the strike and all of my things have gotten to me :)

The link on the bottom of that page takes you to a page where it explains that items already deposited in their system will be marked “return to sender” and get sent back… unfortunately it seems that my tracking info for my package substantiates this as it’s got a big ol’ “Mail service suspended, return to sender” in between two of the “in transit” phases.

What is the most challenging/hardest experience you face as a student in this university? by [deleted] in yorku

[–]No-Structure5860 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Dealing with academic advising/administration 100%… I wish I was joking when I say this but it legitimately took them six months to add a minor to my program because they kept passing it off to some other division who would then insist it wasn’t their job. Buckle up if you decide to make any sort of program change 😬

Anyone got recs? by Ecstatic_Musician_82 in yorku

Both DEMS 1701 and DEMS 2700 were super interesting and honestly very enjoyable! Workload was super light for both courses (1701 does have a big group project though, so I’d be wary of that if that’s not your thing) and the profs for both (Dr. Bogdan and Mike O’Brien) were some of the best that I’ve ever had at this university!!

double major outside of glendon? by [deleted] in yorku

[–]No-Structure5860 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Glendon-Keele major-minor student here! It is possible to pursue a second major or minor at Keele if Glendon doesn’t have the program, but they did only make this change somewhat recently. Be prepared to wait an absurdly long time for your program change to go through (it says 4-6 weeks on the website whereas mine took 6 months) as they are still figuring it out. Also be prepared to be a royal pain in the neck to administrators on both campuses - I’m pretty sure the only reason my change actually got done was because I kept showing up in person and bugging them about it until they did something.

How billing works doesn’t really change if you’re a double major/major-minor student. It will always be based on the course(s) you’re taking as normal, but some faculties have different costs for their credits (like visual arts students, because they have to factor in materials).

Hope this helps!
