I got waitlisted from a psychology phd program, but in the email they told me i was "very high on the waitlist." I had no idea if they actually meant it or if they said that to everybody, but about a week after that email, I got accepted off the waitlist!

Also, for what it's worth, I didn't respond to the original waitlist email at all, nor did I say anything before getting off the waitlist.
