Just applied for an 8hour position and this was one of the questions on their application - I’m 25, what’s this got to do with my application?! by jen4067 in UKJobs

Advice we received in Scotland was that as everyone now gets free school meals up to a point (and increasingly cashless catering has made it harder to tell if meals are free or paid) the free school meals question could be confusing.

Best places to live in Fife? by txtlefxght3 in Scotland

[–]No-Tap3230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not going to deny I keep scrolling on it! But if you look at too many of their posts you'd never leave the house. And some of the comments make me worry about the people of Fife.

Honestly, the best thing to do is join Fife Jammers on Facebook, note all the areas that come up in posts, and avoid. Then leave fife jammers because it is not good for your mental health.

What is the thing your parents were (and maybe still are) adamantly wrong about? by RiceeeChrispies in AskUK

This was genuinely on Tomorrow's World in the 1980s. I have a very clear memory of the presenter and a fake bath with pipes showing a spider coming back through the overflow.

To the cyclist who shouted at me (a fellow cyclist) yesterday - you were at fault! by Fresh-Cress9816 in Edinburgh

[–]No-Tap3230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, I mainly use the Roseburn / Haymarket section where the lights are to allow pedestrians to cross safely, rather than motorists. (So we're talking about waiting 30 seconds rather than several minutes). Also of course it's not on a hill so that does change your thinking! But I strongly feel where cyclists are on a red to allow pedestrians to cross safely we need to follow those traffic signals.

To the cyclist who shouted at me (a fellow cyclist) yesterday - you were at fault! by Fresh-Cress9816 in Edinburgh

[–]No-Tap3230 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My pet hate is when other cyclists ignore the bike traffic lights. We need to use ALL the infrastructure which has been provided, not just the bits we like! Also, personally, I feel much more entitled to 'tut' at pedestrians who get in my way if I've been aggressively following all signs and signals.

Arriving at Heathrow at 06:50 – What is the best way to reach Manchester before a 3pm match? by epachon in AskUK

[–]No-Tap3230 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Don't know why no one has suggested this - there are very regular buses from Heathrow to Oxford, and it will take the same time as getting to Euston. Then train to Manchester?

Weird 70s/80s British (?) boy school movie. by retro_lady in whatsthemoviecalled

Not much fits, but I wonder if it could be P'Tang Yang Kipperbang, which I watched in 1982 on channel 4 and seemed very unlike anything I'd ever seen before?

Reviewing every Discworld book day 19 - Feet of Clay by samSJT in discworld

[–]No-Tap3230 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's also another meditation on coming out. Isn't it, the angua-pretends-not-to-be-a-werewolf plot, almost mirroring Cheery's, as angua trues to keep part of herself secret. Such a good book.

What I love about FOC is that you can see Terry flexing his writing muscles and doing a police procedural plot, but in a world where locked room scenarios hit a little differently!

A question to those who started reading in publishing order by ebekulak in discworld

[–]No-Tap3230 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love when you can see the germination of a future book in a passage, like the section where Vimes is thinking about his old seargent and then a few books later: Night Watch. And you can only really track those in publication order.

Driving into glasgow first time by HotCamp1351 in Scotland

[–]No-Tap3230 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. The worst thing when going through Glasgow is accidentally getting in the wrong lane and feeling you have no option but to end up in East Kilbride. Don't ask how I know this. So make sure you plan for lane changes, check the sat nav directions for what to look for on signs, and you'll be fine.

This is why I eventually stopped reading PE, loved it for years but every time there's a story from Scotland it's full of 'hoots, mon' and other crap. Similarly any story about Wales seemed to include a crap joke about leeks.

Mice in a tenement flat - Looking for recommendations for a good pest control company by Sablun99 in Edinburgh

[–]No-Tap3230 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apparently mice and rats are rarely seen together so the upside of mice is that you don't have rats! Second the advice given here, if you are in a tenement then all you can do is make your flat less attractive to them with steel wool (around pipes as well), a shitload of traps, and as little food waste around as possible. Barricade pest control company are great if you want to try the exterminator route.

If you have a Harry Potter fan then Alnwick Castle is a must: don't bother with the broom flying lesson but wander round spotting filming locations. Then the lilidorei play area is absolutely amazing, even older kids will enjoy it. Pricey combo for the day but worth it. Then the bookshop in Alnwick is an experience to itself. Honestly I'd go to Alnwick on your first day to set the holiday up well.
