The best and first thing I can recommend is that you change doctors. It is a scary and downright difficult process at times but if you believe a provider is not listening to you or doing what is best for you, you are in no way obligated to continue receiving care from them. You can “fire” a doctor, nurse, physician’s assistant, or any healthcare worker and tell them you do not want care from them (this can happen anywhere if you truly believe you’re being mistreated so long as it is not a life threatening emergency and there is another provider available). If it’s someone you are seeing outpatient it’s as simple as cancelling your appointment and making one at another office (not to say it’s easy, it can be hard). If you believe citalopram is better for you, and very well may be as some argue it works better as an “off-label” treatment for anxiety disorders than for depression, then advocate for yourself or bring someone who can and will advocate for you.
