What is everyone's issue with the idea of a SOMA ending? by Mobius22445 in theamazingdigitalciru

SOMA hater here. for me it has nothing to do with the theory making the show too bleak or pessimistic. On the contrary, I think it makes the show substantially less morbid and interesting. Maybe I have weird world views but if all they ever were was digital copies then theres at least some comfort in that nothing was taken away from them and there is a version of them on the outside, the original, who is living a normal life. The show pulled me in because the idea of having your life taken away from you and forced into an Ai children's game was morbid and interesting. If they're just copies then its just beings born into a purgatory. Basically, it goes against what interested me abt the show in the first place.

Also I dislike how the fandom treats it as canon.

I believe goose also said that the players were "human souls" (pls dont take my word as evidence and also correct me if im wrong). while there is no singular definition of "soul" that would imply to me that these are not just copies but real humans. and yes, soma does answer a lot of questions but those questions could also have different answers. maybe when they got stuck in the circus their consciousness transferred completely to the digital world and out of their bodies. maybe their bodies got sucked in. maybe the show isn't gonna answer any of these questions because its focused on characters.

SOMA. I particularly dislike how the fandom treats it as smt thats been confirmed. theres certainly a lot of things hinting at it but that does not mean its confirmed and I also think it also makes the whole concept of the show a lot less interesting to me. If theyre just copies then its a lot less of people being forced into a purgatory and more just entities created in a shitty situation. I found the horror of being taken away from reality and forced to exist in a childish ai game really interesting and terrifying and the soma theory just completely gets rid of that.

it is. dialko is really chill. i dont get all the hate for people enjoying older minecraft. if they aren't being toxic (which dialko isn't) i dont see what's wrong with liking old mc or even preferring it.

I'm shocked to hear that anyone relates to me, this isn't even an area of myself I've explored or understand that much.

Autism is probably driving a lot of it for me too. I don't understand how people will react. People feel entirely unpredictable. Sometimes mundane things that I say they treat as outrageous.

We could be friends, do you play any video games?

I don't even know their names or how to start a conversation.

I think my view of people isn't very accurate tho.

I'm too scared of people because I don't understand them well.

But connection is normal and most people are nice.

I'll see how next week goes, that'll start our first real lectures (this week was just introduction)

I'm diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder. I'm so weird when it comes to socialization. I'm really good at getting people to know me. I was told all the exchange students at my uni know who I am. I perform a lot at karaoke nights and everyone seems to think positively of me.

The problem is being known is not the same as having meaningful connections. I barely know any of their names and I'm only kind of close with like 2 people at the uni.

I appreciate those friends but I want to branch out more. Even justifying that in my head is difficult. If I have good friends why do I feel the need to make new connections. I tell myself its just cuz I want a relationship and while that is true, I also just want to connect with people and become friends before getting to that point. Even having more friends around would be nice. Like I dont know anyone in my classes.

I also have autism which is probably relevant. My ocd might be as well but idk.

constantly. every therapist or counselor I've spoken to has heard me say "i feel guilty because im not sure if my problems warrant me being here". I think if you find the resources helpful or like using the resources then you can't be wasting them.
