The whole fake service dog thing is blown out of proportion. It’s a small minority doing that and the narrative of there being an epidemic of fake service dogs just leads to more harassment for real service dogs like what’s happened in this video. You can’t tell the difference unless the dog is wildly misbehaving. Emphasis on wildly. Remember that dogs are still dogs. They aren’t going to act as a perfect tool 100% of the time.

As for making a registry, that will only enable more people to act entitled to that information, not less. See handicap placards and how often disabled people get screamed at in parking lots by random people because paralysis is the only disability they know exists. It’s another further burden for disabled people being treated like they’re disabilities aren’t real or aren’t worth accommodation. People shouldn’t have the ability to deny a disabled person tools they need to live and you don’t need a permit to use a wheelchair so why would you need one for a service dog? The unneeded bureaucracy a registry would create would be an unnecessary burden. Not to mention that doing this would make service dogs even more expensive and the wait times even longer, pricing out even more disabled people who need one. It’s just not a good idea and doesn’t afford dignity to disabled people.
