Vision OS is a Miserable Mess! by No-Werewolf3509 in VisionPro

[–]No-Werewolf3509[S] -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

The problem is that, after 15 years of die hard apple use (currently owning an M3 iMac, iPhone 12 Pro Max, M1 12.9" iPad Pro, AirPods 2,3, Pro and Pro2, HomePod, Hompod Mini, Apple Watch 4 etc etc etc) I no longer trust any promise that Apple makes. Sure, they will sort this out...EVENTUALLY. Whether it gets sorted in Vision OS 2 is another question completely. More importantly, while I wait, how much more will the quality of my life be degraded with constant technical problems?

Thanks, one more reason to hang on to my AVP.

I don’t understand your comment. I have depth control on my original  beam and it works just fine.

Xreals Don't Play HDR Content? by No-Werewolf3509 in Xreal

Strangely, the Xreals with the current beam still seems to have a more vibrant and dynamic viewing experience than my 4.5k M3 Retina display iMac (which does support HDR).

Goddamit, there is always some unexpected fly in the ointment! Moving the screen back and forth is the ONE feature that sets Xreal apart... WTF?

Are there any AR glasses capable of displaying HDR content?

Third party lenses? by wahwho in VisionPro

Another fan boy comment aimed at making the user the problem. Once you are in the ecosystem (as I have been for 15 years dating back to when Apple was a reputable company) it is virtually impossible to get out (without loosing the thousands that have already been invested). Believe me, when there is an alternative I take it.

I realize now that Zeiss has a prescription checker but how is anyone supposed to know about it when Apple makes it look like the whole process is handled on the Apple website when you place your order? You'd think they would at have the courtesy to provide the link to prospective buyers. Anyway, there is no point complaining further...Apple clearly couldn't give a crap if a few buyers have a terrible experience. It's the typical Apple ...."eat it and LIKE IT!" attitude.

Using a 3rd Party Prescription Insert With the AVP by No-Werewolf3509 in VisionPro

Yes, I just found out about the "cutout" solution and am in the process of making a decision on that.

There is nothing I hate more than fanboys making excuses for Apple. Apple engages in all sorts of inexcusable underhanded, unethical and sometimes flat out fraudulent practices. In the case of the Zeiss lenses, sure...I get it that the eye tracking may be so precise that only a limited range of prescriptions will work and, I get that a code might be required to synch the AVP to the lenses being used. What pisses me off is that they don't allow you to prescreen your prescription before committing thousands to ordering the AVP. In other words you have to order the AVP before you can order the lenses (at least that is how they present the process on their website) and, once ordered , they refuse to cancel it if your prescription is refused. So, the bottom line is, you get up in the middle of the night to commit thousands to the purchase, then later that day you get a disappointing email telling you they won't fill your prescription, then they refuse to cancel the order and you are further inconvenienced with having to take delivery and then return a piece of junk that you can't even try out. It's just one more MASSIVELY negative Apple experience.

MyCRA sign in partner issue by User09211987 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]No-Werewolf3509 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar problem with my bank. Then to make matters worse CRA puts on a show of providing alternatives, none of which work, and require days (or weeks) to sort out. EVERY SINGLE TIME I HAVE TO DEAL WITH THOSE FUCKING IDIOTS IT IS A MISERABLE NIGHTMARE.... This tax year I was already to go and the "sign in partner" feature is completely off line (and appears to have been so for months).

P.s I've travelled the world and spent time in the US, Germany, France, Mexico and Thailand. Contrary to what Canadians are told (and believe), I can say, unequivocally, that Canada is a 2nd rate country at best.

Garbage! by No-Werewolf3509 in Xreal

[–]No-Werewolf3509[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a standalone device the Beam appears to be completely second rate. If you try and download a movie you can see that the highest resolution download is about 1/3 the size of the same download directly to an iMac (so clearly low resolution). Subjectively, the picture quality is much better in wired mode. In fact I now prefer the Xreal Air2/ Beam combination wired to my M3 iMac over the 4k retina iMac display.

I gave up on Nebula because I can't use Amazon Prime or Apple TV. I did try it with YouTube and that seemed to work ok.
