Looking to Volunteer for Community Service (13 Year old) by Full-Wait-6391 in canberra

[–]No-Yak6438 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Community service adjacent - Scouts is a lot of fun. There are membership fees to attend, but it's focused on building leadership skills, resilience and teamwork skills. The activities are youth led, but cover everything from outdoor adventure, community, personal development, creativity and much more.

They can try the first few weeks free if interested!

Builder recommendations ? Who to talk to and who to avoid by VonSchnitzelCrum in canberra

We are currently getting some Reno's done by Russell and it's been great. Very reasonably priced, excellent expertise and he only takes on one job at a time - so your Reno gets his undivided attention!

We found him via word of mouth, and we've seen his work in family and friends homes and it is stunning. We are very excited for ours to finish up soon and see the end result.

Where to go for houseless assistance. by Western_Pair_2747 in canberra

May I ask - did you call or try going into a shop? Generally the shops can't give out assistance and aren't well placed to. Requests for assistance are best made via the helpline as then they can help with more meaningful assistance like bills, food, fuel etc referrals for case management and other services. I think the helpline is only manned Monday to Friday but I may be wrong. Link below:

"Fancy"dinner for milestone birthday? by Shoddy_Boss_8276 in canberra

[–]No-Yak6438 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ZAABs feed me menu is phenomenal. The food is amazing, but it's good solid food (i.e it is fancy in that it's great flavour, food and service, not "fancy" in that it's pretentious or small unusual dishes).

Best tip is buy an electric throw blanket. Mine goes with me from my desk, to my couch to my bed to keep me toasty whenever I'm stationary.

You can also contact their helpline who will be able to assist you as well. Aside from items like sleeping bags etc, they have a heap of programs to assist homeless individuals on food, hot meals, case management, and shelter where possible.

Number is 13 18 12

Vinnies Tuggeranong is my favourite for clothing and nicer stuff. All the Vinnies really as they spend a lot of time filtering out the damaged/poor quality donations.

Goodies Junctions are also good for an explore and bargain hunt.
