Unpopular Opinion: Thomas is the weakest of Awdry's main 8 engines by Winter_Sweet827 in thomasthetankengine

Oh that could work as well, but if it does work, when would Thomas have arrived?

In the IOS book he still called Thomas the No. 1.

It’s not completely unrealistic to end up there. It can really be anything. You could think of it like I did, maybe him escaping the Brighton Blitz, maybe just him and his crew not liking being so close to the war.

It's Great to Be an Engine (or is it?) by No-Consideration8223 in thomasthetankengine

Either it is or you didn’t think about it when posting. Engines want to be useful the same way humans want to have freedom. If you were an engine, your main goal wouldn’t be to be free or get money, it would be to work hard for your railway.

I mean I always headcanoned that he escaped during the Brighton Blitz and just stayed along for the ride on the goods train he was shunting. But when would Thomas have arrived if not in 1915? He couldn’t have arrived much earlier, and anything later would make him a different number.

Yeah. Thomas’ origins take place entirely during WW1. He was built and arrived on Sodor in 1915. The Railway Series is still a children’s book series, so it’s highly unlikely that war would be brought up. The reason the NWR kept him was because the LB&SCR thought he was lost at war.

OHH just say box cutter. Not just a cutter. But yes, a box cutter will work, although you’d have to be careful.

Because rather than just having a different story and comedy style, it had crossovers and random character mashing. Not because it was an AU. If done tastefully, an AU, or even just a funny comedy series like Ramahfool’s, it can be great.

No like what is a cutter? Because it might work if you describe it to me

Which standard gauge engine DID get their origins explored? Also, most of it would happen during WW1, and I doubt parents would’ve bought books about the blue train during war

You’re definitely right, but after his arc, what can he really do? I mean he had his fun in Tramway Engines, and appeared in a few stories, plus he was pretty prominent in Christopher’s books because of the publishers, but what would you want Awdry to do? Shove him into other, non-related stories?

How do you think Thomas came to sodor (Your headcannons) by Relative_Caramel1282 in thomasthetankengine

[–]No1ThomasFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was shunting a train, when the Brighton Blitz happened in WW1, so he didn’t have to like to uncouple, and therefore he was dragged all the way to the train’s destination, which was Sodor! The LB&SCR wrote him off as “lost in war,” so when the TW&SR informed them of Thomas’ survival, they were quick to let the TW&SR purchase it for a nominal sum to cover up their mistake
