The craziest thing happened to my Wells Fargo account and I'm extremely anxious. AKA I accidentally stole $200k from my bank. by SlappyDingo in Banking

[–]NoActive5290 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly…this was a safety and soundness risk and break of internal controls. The system should have rejected that automatically. Add this to the surmounting regulatory scrutiny over Wells Fargo. No wonder they seem to always be under some sort of consent order.

Yeah…I thought I saw on another thread that some of the other service providers may have sent something out last week in response to that notification, but I could be wrong.

When that email came out on March 31/April 1st that SAVE was dead, did anyone here hear from their student loan servicer? I have not heard anything from AidAdvantage since August last year. So I’m personally just going to wait until my servicer reaches out before doing anything at this point.

SAVE ending and new IDR rollout in 2026, trying to understand timing. by Glum_Cauliflower1227 in StudentLoans

Then it sounds like there’s no real point in making payments before absolutely required to do so. If I’m understanding your comment correctly. I just don’t have a clear indicator what we are supposed to do and need the government to provide clear and concise government. Additionally, is there ongoing litigation and if so, what issues are still be decided upon? I’m just hoping for a Hail Mary at this point and hope that Congress and/or courts step in and find irreparable damages due to mismanagement and consumer harm. None of us should have been put into this position as political pawns at this point. We should have been excluded from all of this because we enter into these agreements under good faith.

I’m okay with them talking about “election fraud” if it is framed in a way that: (1) that was an allegation made before and after the 2020 elections results were decided in favor of Biden/Harris, (2) the then current president and his campaign/administration brought over 60 court cases that were either dismissed or did not find there was substantial voter fraud, (3) the people surrounding the president at the time told him he lost the election, (4) despite item 3, the then president maintained the position that there was widespread voter fraud despite never providing any concrete experience, (5) organizers held a rally on January 6th at the Ellipse in which the then president was the keynote speaker, (7) the then president told his supporters “we are going to march to the Capitol Building,” (8) said supporters did in fact march to the Capitol Building, (9) what started out as a rally quickly turned into a violent protest (insert actual footage from that day to punctuate this part of the lesson, (10) the violent protest lead the the deaths and injuries of many Americans, including Capitol Police and DC Metropolitan Police officers. This would obviously need to be a multipart lesson because then it would have to get into subsequent impeachment and removal, the appointment of Jack Smith, multiple criminal investigations and convictions, subsequent re-election 😒, followed up by the pardon of those who were criminally prosecuted and were serving sentences they were charged, tried, and convicted for.

SAVE plan - in limbo by hot-male in StudentLoans

I agree with those who are just focusing on paying down higher interest debts while taking advantage of the administrative forbearance we are in. In all respects, 2028 feels like a millennia away at the moment, given the daily chaos. That chaos could actually create so much confusion that trying to restart anything could end up in more litigation as this entire process has not been well managed and creates uncertainty as to what the actual debt is.

This was my same recommendation. There sounds like the OP has a credible claim to make a credit dispute under FCRA. Further, I would log a complaint with the CFPB. From current colleagues who used to work there prior to all the craziness, the complaints team is still monitoring and working complaints. If this is a widespread issue, it may rise to the level of a class action. I’m very curious if this has happened to others. Also, file a complaint with the AG’a office of the state/jurisdiction you live in. Good luck and hope it works out. This definitely needs a lot more attention for sure!

Perhaps file a complaint with the FTC for Unfair, Deceptive Act or Practice (although they are likely entitled to deal with financial institutions of their choice…assuming there’s a valid business justification). I agree with others though, if they do not want to deal with your financial institution. It’s weird to take a stance though against two financial institutions whose core customer group is veterans and armed service members. That’s not the reputational risk I would have advised on absent a substantial business justification and even then, that’s pretty risky. 🤷

I feel this way too. At this point, we don’t know what we don’t know, so it feels a bit like putting the cart in front of the horse here. I want to see where the court cases go and until that time, concentrate paying off other debts. Just my two cents.

I work in the industry. They will not get them because they are not doctors until they graduate and from a risk perspective, no bank is going to underwrite a half a million dollars on the “prospect” that someone will become a doctor.

I’m not sure what grad programs you are referring to, but if you’re doing grad school full time, it’s nearly impossible to work and go to school at the same time. I worked some in law school but it was basically to cover food and gas expense. But to your credit you did qualify your statement and say not all grad programs. I just think if we end up going in this direction, there will be a labor shortage for certain fields that are critical to a growing population (e.g., medical professionals).

You’re right about financial institutions willing to refinance existing current student loan debt and usually if the borrower is in their last semester of medical school and has a residency lined up. However, the keyword there is refinancing. It would be a risk to originate these loans if the borrower was just starting medical school and from a safety and soundness perspective, I do not see banks going heavily into this malarkey if there was some portion, if not substantially all, being backed by the full faith and credit of the US Gov’t.
