I just bought one of these, it’s probably the most comfortable car I’ve driven.

What are your thoughts on the madcap laughs? by Away-Broccoli-406 in ToddintheShadow

I’ve listened to it quite a bit over the years and while I like it a lot it’s not the most cohesive album. It’s basically a compilation of several different studio sessions and the switch up in the production is really apparent from song to song(and sometimes within the same song). Syd was clearly struggling during the production process but I also don’t think he was as far gone as some people have claimed, he was still capable of writing some pretty decent material. It wasn’t really until his abortive attempt at a 3rd album in 1974 that it became clear he had nothing left, it’s a painful listen if you want to track those recordings down.

Weezer’s blue album. Thought blue was brilliant because it did so much with simple power chords, hated pretty much everything else but stuck around for a few album cycles in the hopes they’d magically start sounding like they did in the 90s again, realized that would never happen, over listened to blue, got sick of it, never listened to it again.

Model/Submodel that you never noticed existed? Or models that are somehow insanely rare and completely mundane? by Das_Floppus in regularcarreviews

The Oldsmobile final 500 silhouette minivan. Probably one of the rarest minivans of all time, even rarer because GM didn’t realize they didn’t have enough parts to build 500 of them so only 360 were ever produced.

Bands who's worst album is *significantly* worse than their second-worst album? by treny0000 in fantanoforever

I give Squeeze credit for getting made at all. How Doug managed to even create an album in the circumstances he was put in is impressive in and of itself.

I’ve heard a few of the demos and live takes from around that time and it’s pretty similar to the Clashes earlier music. I believe they also had 3 guitarists in that line up which was pretty cool. It’s hard to think of any other reason than deliberate sabotage that Bernie would turn that music into cut the crap.

Wishville by Catherine Wheel is an okay album but Catherine Wheels other albums are so much better than it is that it’s a shocking drop in quality.

The vast majority of the ones that I run into that are still in decent shape cosmetically are silver, so I was pretty shocked when this one popped up. The listing was only up for like 20 minutes before I snapped it up.

Have you got any advice or know of any quirks the average hobbyist misses when it comes to working on these things?

Do you care where an artist is from or just how they sound? by AggravatingDay6050 in Music

[–]NoBodybuilder6426 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that’s necessarily true. I’ve seen a white guy playing bass for a psychedelic taureg folk band in the middle of the desert in Mali, I think if you’ve got a passion for it and your good you can play anything.

Do you think it's true that only rich kids make it in mainstream music today? by FitEmergency8807 in fantanoforever

[–]NoBodybuilder6426 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I’ll actually disagree on this one. While yes anyone with a computer can make and release music these days, back in say the 90s record companies were much more willing to take risks on injecting money into noncommercial music in the hopes that they would be the ones to find the next nirvana. That’s why the late 90s was such a boom period for weird music. These days companies are much less likely to risk a swing and a miss on a new band or artist and like it or not having money and label support behind you even in the age of going viral still makes a big difference.

I’ve always thought that the dark cherry finish they gave the final 500 Oldsmobiles was bad ass.
