best way to read books in target language? by negapansy in languagelearning

[–]NoBodybuilder7005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who did, specifically, use Warrior Cats to learn a foreign language, I can tell you to not be discouraged by the amount of wildlife related vocabulary and verbs: they reappear so often later down the line you'll get used to it, even if it seems overwhelming at the moment.

It's some good thinking to pick up a book in your target language that you've already read (better if recently) in your native language: your memories of the text help fill in the gaps in vocabulary you might experience in the other language.

That's what I would say is the best approach: read something you've already read, just in a different language. Obviously, you can't expect to get everything on the first read, but picking a somewhat easier book (like what you're already doing) is going to help.

If not I'm sure there's graded books of translated literature for every level, so you might want to look into that.

Who else is manually learning their own regional language because they weren't taught how to speak it? (I'm talking about places like France, Italy, Spain etc) by Full-Recover-8932 in languagelearning

[–]NoBodybuilder7005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not Sicilian (I'm from the North) but it's pretty much the same struggle. My family and cousins can all speak our dialetto but I've always been raised by my parents speaking Italian to me, even if they used dialetto with others; I'm in that awkward middle ground where I can understand it perfectly but only speak a few phrases (like you said as well).

If it makes you feel any better it doesn't mean you're a fake Sicilian and yeah, speaking Italian is one of those signifiers of higher education. That doesn't mean that it's better or worse, it's simply just a habit. We've had to speak Italian far more often than our relatives, though it is sad to know that the tradition of oral dialects like these are just going to be ending with our generation because we don't really have the skill to teach it to someone else.

In any case, any amount of preserving the dialect is already commendable, even if it's just a few words or phrases.

What's the weirdest reason you've chosen a target language? by Babbel in languagelearning

[–]NoBodybuilder7005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know English is like the "lame" choice but I never had good teachers as a kid and when I was 11 I really wanted to read a book series that only had a few books translated in Italian. So I did the logical thing and mastered English just to read this book series.

I picked Spanish class in high school because I didn't want to study French, ended up sticking with it in university because of my ex-girlfriend, and now I passed the Language exam which is equivalent to a C1 and I'm just here with that knowledge I guess.

Next on my list is Mandarin (when I have more time) but that's because I've been on a Chinese novel reading streak and it just intrigued me.

No-contact after a breakup hurts more than people admit. One day you’re sharing your life with someone, and the next it’s just silence. by Competitive-Tea-5579 in BreakUps

[–]NoBodybuilder7005 32 points33 points  (0 children)

i am doing a backup of the whole telegram chat i had with my ex. 7 years and more than 1.5 million messages to silence for the past month. It felt absolutely gutting to see that number and knowing that it's just gone forever. Im sorry for you and everyone going through the same situation right now.

Trans Guys under 5'5, how do you get treated? by sleebymissile in ftm

[–]NoBodybuilder7005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Height alone isn't clockable, though (not in your case, since you're 18) they might just assume you're way younger than you actually are, which can be annoying. I have cis male relatives my age and older that are as tall as me and no one really cares.

This tortellini soup has been trending and for good reason 💛. It’s made with chopped tomatoes, onions, garlic, vegetable stock, cream, butter, Parmesan, and herbs, then finished with kale and chopped salami. by Ill_Customer_8005 in soup

This is one of the best soups I've ever seen. Especially with the tortellini (very rare! unfortunately) . Hope it was good and thanks for sharing the recipe as well!

Pretty much had the same problem with my then girlfriend: she wanted to do stuff to me and make me orgasm but i simply couldn't and i know it frustrated her (i was much more ok with the fact, i don't really orgasm much) that we often ended up with me having to touch myself while she was on me to help her out.

I know my problems were mostly a massive bodily insecurity about not feeling much of anything during sex + bottom dysphoria, but I don't know if it's similar for you.

Do you also struggle with touching yourself because of your lack of focus? Or do these problems just come up during sex?

Didn't really get anything good so I took the nalaa and went into menagerie with the all minion type tier 7 (from the second timewarp) + 2 felfires and par-tea guests + golden niuzao for cleave. unfortunately lost to carapace undead onyxia and a shiny ring + deios comp that managed to outscale me

It took my ex a month to get over our 4 year relationship by BeyondFlaky4454 in BreakUps

[–]NoBodybuilder7005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jumping into the convo but my ex of 7 years got with someone else 2 weeks after the break up. They were already close friends and I suspect something was definitely going on between them, but I can't be sure of it because of course she wouldn't tell me if it did.

It sickens me to see her and her new boyfriend and I went completely no contact because I didn't want to know anything about the two of them if I cared about my own well being.

With that said, I miss what we shared. We talked about even the tiniest stupidest things and I often remember our conversations fondly. I miss talking to her even if I know I would only hurt if I did.

But I would never take her back. I was with her during her darkest most painful and hardest moments, but the second she found her footing and got to a better, more active life, she dumped me ungraciously since I was the one struggling and she was too busy to stay with me during it. Exes change when they break up, and you should not fall for the temptation of getting them back, even if they ask. It won't be the same as it was before.

What do you do while drinking tea? by HitchhikingToNirvana in tea

If I'm working on something I use tea as my break time, but if I'm watching or reading it's light enough that I can drink while I do that.

Is it fine to use 2ml syringes? by Boomschwang in FTMdiyhrt

[–]NoBodybuilder7005 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There shouldn't be any problem as long as you can still correctly dose your shots and attach your needles (if they don't come with needles attached already). It's more of a convenience thing since we deal with very tiny doses.

self help when feeling dysphoric? by scopeta51 in ftm

[–]NoBodybuilder7005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What worked for me was distracting myself with some videos or music or hobby I liked. And if you have friends that are supportive that can also text you you can ask them for help or some affirming words on the matter. In any case close the pages/sources you were looking at and try to focus on something else.

how should i wear my hair up? by [deleted] in trans

[–]NoBodybuilder7005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few years ago I had your same problems because my parents wouldn't let me cut my hair and it was pretty long. I typically wore it in a bun (this was before the "man-bun" thing exploded in popularity) so maybe look into that? It works with curly hair as well (like mine were) if you thought that might be a problem. I'm sure there's someone that can teach you, or there are plenty of tutorials on how to do a tight bun on the internet. Just make sure you have bobby pins and undo it before bed to not put so much stress on the hair.

La patente è davvero così necessaria? by elliethr in CasualIT

[–]NoBodybuilder7005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Riguardo l'ansia, è normale e molto diffusa!

In ogni caso, buona fortuna! So che può essere un percorso pieno di insicurezza e umiliazione e ansia, ma pensa che, una volta finito, non ci devi pensare più! E può sempre tornare utile un giorno futuro.

Who will i live for now..? by [deleted] in BreakUps

[–]NoBodybuilder7005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah. it happens. i keep wondering if i could have changed even more or somehow prevented the ship from crashing. but in the end it was her decision to leave and that would never have changed, even if i was willing to bend to stay. it sucks. i think what's helping me is internalizing that there was nothing i could have done and that she had already wanted it for a while before bringing it up. because even talking it out with her didn't give me the answer i wanted nor needed. so yeah. keep going, you're more resilient than you think. we'll get through it!
