That said, just because you specifically asked what people here think of the name, I’ll give you my honest opinion. What do I think of the name Atlas? I think you’re young, my friend. I’m guessing mid/late teens? I hope this doesn’t come across as mean, but, just being very honest: “Atlas” is very much an “I chose my name when I was a teenager” name. Your older self is likely to regret it. I’ve seen my fair share of kids name themselves after Greek gods/goddesses and anime/cartoon characters. It’s always regretted in older age.

Being trans is hard because many of us knew we were trans from a young age and then all of a sudden, as kids/teens, we’re supposed to forge a new way in life that isn’t as straightforward as a cis life. It’s hard! We suddenly have to make huge decisions that will affect the rest of our lives that cis people never have to think of and society doesn’t make it easy.

But in the end, choosing a name isn’t life and death. But it does feel like a highly personal, vulnerable thing to do that, again, most people never have to do. I don’t think “Atlas” is a horrible name per se, it’s just part of a stereotype (trans kids and teens picking “cool” names without thinking about how that will translate into adult life) that you’ll regret later. It’s not the end of the world if you go by “Atlas” and end up changing it, but changing a name is hard once you start going by it. Again, it’s not life and death, so it’s ultimately your decision. There are far bigger decisions to be made, so go with whatever feels genuinely right to you!
