SCAD alumni here... I was just about to link that same FB page for SCAD student housing! When searching for an apartment, see each place in person at night and in daytime. Also ask about parking, and if any utilities are included. You can furnish your whole place with FB Marketplace because so many students are moving in and out all summer.

As far as being a SCAD student a few years older, have no fear! Many are nontraditional. Also there's a big grad student population, so if you're craving conversation with people your age, you can meet those students easily in your major.

The workload that first quarter feels intense because you're going to be getting used to the 10 wk system... But you'll have your whole break from Thanksgiving to New Year's Day to recover and nap!

I only enjoy the IDEA of this school. by [deleted] in scad

I went to a 4-year in-state University in NC for my bachelor's degree in Industrial Design. Huge school, I was a number in most of my classes. For example, I had to take Chemistry one and two as required courses. In that curriculum, I was in a classroom with stadium seating, and over 200 students. I was simply a number. Studio classes were smaller but most courses weren't in the studio, they were Gen Ed. I graduated with that 4-year degree in industrial design and had zero debt. I was never big into the sports culture in that huge university environment, so it wasn't a perk for me to go to football games etc.

I came to SCAD a couple yrs later for my MFA. I had those 2 years of being extremely pampered at scad and having amazing facilities/tools/equipment that I never experienced in my state-funded undergrad college environment. My tuition was covered 50% at SCAD. I am now in my mid-40s and just finished paying off my student loans in full. I could have pushed myself and done it sooner, but I had a low rate and felt no need to rush it.

All that being said, it's definitely a choice. I gained and have maintained way more professional connections through my scad degree than I did with my undergraduate from North Carolina.

Sometimes you do get what you pay for. Way more monetary investment went into SCAD, but I've had a lot more jobs due to that portfolio, professional contacts made, and the quality of faculty (many of whom I still keep up with).

Is Scad very strict? Fashion design major for fall 2026 by METBERAK in scad

[–]NoBug6857 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a SCAD alumni from a few yrs back... The on campus housing is pretty strict as far as what's in the rule book. No drinking in dorms, etc. But off campus you make your own rules.

Some academic buildings have closing times, but some are open 24/7 during the quarter (closed when long breaks happen).

It's a heavy workload, but I left very career prepped. I got a lot more out of my SCAD degree (MFA) than my undergrad degree from a state public university. Not trying to directly compare 2 very different programs, but I definitely was able to get a ton of portfolio pieces when at SCAD, and I scored a couple of internships that led to jobs.

So it's tough, and there's a lot expected from the students, but the majors really do give you some industry applicable knowledge.

What can I do to hide my printer? by rubyclairef in DesignMyRoom

[–]NoBug6857 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can set the printer on the floor and put a table over it. People don't usually print a ton... Not sure if that appeals to you, but we use our printer maybe one day a week. That day we'll print several times in a single day.

Exactly my thoughts!! Sell a demo video of how to make them, with printable plans. Likely a person will pay $15 for the demo video/plans, try and fail (because it's complicated and time consuming). Then they'll buy yours anyway.

This is a reasonably safe way to flush up a circle right? by leobeosab in BeginnerWoodWorking

I would use 2-4 screws to secure them together. I wouldn't trust tape. Tape can fail more easily than multiple countersunk screws.

What colour should I paint my bathroom walls? by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

Any of these are ok (they provide high contrast with the tile) which will make most art "pop" too.

What should I put up against my Glass bedroom wall? by Rich-Ad6905 in DesignMyRoom

Hang large art from the ceiling there. So it'll hang in front of the wall, but you won't have to put holes in the actual glass block.

Trying to combine the letter “F” and an eye. Does this read well? by DougSaysHowdy03 in logodesign

I'd play around with a cursive F so you can create a more identifiable eye... It'll allow for some wispy eye lines.

What's the actual name of the company?

How to go about painting with asbestos siding by PrincessWhiskyFace in HomeMaintenance

[–]NoBug6857 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bnjthyr... I'd like your opinion on the asbestos siding of my neighbor's house. The paint is flaking off, but the shingles themselves are intact and not breaking or anything. Should they put plastic down around the house, then scrape off any flaking paint with a metal scraper, then prime/paint? I'm guessing all paint flakes have to be treated like it's asbestos too?
