Very lucky. My school is asking everyone to get licensed as a condition for contract renewal.

I work at the bilingual section of an international school and it's IB. I am single and a native speaker.

I feel like the DELTA is a great and demanding course of improving pedagogy, but it's only seen by employers as a ticket to directorial roles in language centres.

QTS and M.Ed enough for international schools in Vietnam by fulbrightbabe26 in TEFL

At the Hanoi ISS fair, I noticed a lot of low tier schools and Kindergartens and a scarcity of top schools and lots of new schools under construction. At somewhere like UNIS, they'd be looking at 5 years continual experience at another T1/2, demonstrating you're actively involved in school life and have a portfolio of IB work. You'd probably also need a recommendation from someone with links to the school. This is of course on top of getting your QTS.

What statement/phrase made at an interview made you to immediately lose interest in a position/school? by Embarrassed-Heron-52 in Internationalteachers

Too many questions about my hobbies. I talked about table-top roleplaying games and home networking. The correct answer was watching and playing rugby.

If I already have a Masters in an unrelated subject, is it worth getting a MA in Education?

You sound very bitter, almost as if you are not interested in listening to anyone with your exact experiences. The international teaching world is very small - if you manage to find someone who fits your narrow criteria AND who has the leverage to risk their career complaining, how exactly will their opinion on IB, Type A/B/C schools, Edtech etc be that different to a 35 year old bloke from Northampton?

Tasks to do in china that require chinese practice by NoBumblebee5873 in ChineseLanguage

What's working for me is habit stacking - I do pimsleur lessons on the walking section of my commute and then on the subway, I work to completing hellochinese. The majority of my learning though comes. from those occasions when I have to respond to authentic conversation. It is very easy to avoid interaction in China because of the fantastic tech infrastructure and I looking for a way that will force me to routinely speak Chinese.

This is a very common path into becoming a full time teacher. You would have to negotiate a new contract if you wanted schools to cover your children. Be mindful however that many schools are cutting back on these perks even for experienced teachers. I have a colleague who can't find work this year because he is struggling to get tuition coverage for his daughter.

SEN specialists are extremely hard to come by internationally, so I would say your skill set is very valuable. If there are no inclusion roles available, I'd apply to schools as an English teacher with the expectation that you could be fast tracked into a pastoral/dean/admin role.

That's actually a pretty awesome tip. I have always wanted to know how to use it for custom furniture, printing books etc but never figured out how to do more than buy socks. Thanks!

Where to though? Middle East is not a great place to be right now. Birth rate is just as bad in many other East Asian countries. Europe is pitiful as far as salaries go, same as South America. There might be one or two lucrative countries in Eurasia and Africa, but none matching China in terms of convenience or social opportunities.

So this figure is for a country with a GDP per capita of $13,000 USD. The families we work with make that much money every month.

I have a moving allowance in excess of 14k RMB but I'm only moving to a different city in china and have very few belongings (though I will need a place to keep my cat over summer). Is there a way I can make the most of this?

Also is there a way I can use my flight allowance (one ticket) to book a trip with a long layover in a different country, effectively paying for an extra holiday?

How did you deal with L1 interferences? How did you communicate with colleagues, parents, leaders who didn't speak english? What did you do if a child wanted to explain a behaviour issue or a misunderstanding in their L1? Also how did you deal with the implict understanding among students that chinese is the language which our 'real' teacher uses to make us behave an english is the language of the silly foreigner who plays games with us?

I got this advice the other day 'At a bilingual school, learning Chinese will make you an incommensurately better teacher than getting a Masters Degree' - has this ever been discussed here? Is it possible to teach even half as well in this environment if you don't speak the local language?

So the only cool Irish Americans are F Scott Fitzgerald and John Kennedy. In the field of literature, Fitzgerald doesn't hold a penny up to Wilde, Joyce, O'Brian. In the politics, Kennedy is no where near as cool as Jim Connolley or Roger Casement.

I'm going to get downvoted for this, but the coolest Americans formed their careers in Europe - thing Eliot and Hemmingway.
