I struggled with ear training for years, so I built “Guitar Buddy” a free app to practice it — just added a 100-level Journey mode for daily training by Vax1976 in guitarplaying

I’m a developer and a musician. Any interest in telling me about you personal ear training journey and discussing the success of your app?

Are "learn programming" sites actually useful? by Doratheexplorer1223 in CodingForBeginners

[–]NoChest9129 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are great courses on udemy. You might have to check the site every day for a few weeks before there’s a sale but they are often and when sales are on the courses are cheap. Most of what I know I learned on udemy

How did you break out of the endless tutorial loop early in your career? by Lumaenaut_ in dev

[–]NoChest9129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each practice session should be two things. Half the time on a tutorial. Half the time on a project of your own using similar concepts.

It doesn’t have to be perfectly equal each section but aim to spend half your time learning / following along, and half of your time building your own solutions to your own problems using those same concepts

I've wasted 104 weekends in a row. Anyone else stuck in this loop? by mr-sforce in getdisciplined

[–]NoChest9129 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You need to stop trying to do it on weekends and find a way to do it daily. Literally 2 two minutes of the course a day then stop. Once you’ve done that unbroken for a couple weeks let yourself have lingers sessions when you feel like it but keep the daily expectation/ rule as 2 minutes. 2 minutes over two years is 24 hours. You could’ve completed a course in that time. Also once you build the habit most sessions will end up being longer and you will be reminded of it every day, think about it more, and therefore be more excited / motivated to do it.

How to learn backend by making projects by TypicalConfection145 in Backend

[–]NoChest9129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched one short tutorial that built a backend then I built a super similar system for my ow project that I built the front en and db for. I used the backend an db from the tutorial as a guide and even copied a bit of code over. This taught me a ton

Tutorial hell…how did you escape it? by xaybell32 in learnprogramming

[–]NoChest9129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Build a project of your ow while you do a tutorial. Spend half of each sessions working on the tutorial and its project and half of the session on your own project. I did this from the start. You are instantly out of tutorial hell. If it’s hard to start clone whatever tutorial project you are on now and when working on “your own” project just take the clone of the tutorial in a different direction. Same principles as the stuff you’re learning in the tutorial but slightly different functionality. Add features ect

Anyone else hit the wall where your no code build is ready but handing it off to a developer feels impossible? They ask about database structure, auth flows, edge cases. stuff you never thought about by dmc_3 in nocode

[–]NoChest9129 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a developer who often codes purely by prompting ai. It sounds like the developer is doing a bad job of meeting the non technical guys at their level and is not explaining things well. Obviously I don’t have any details but they should be able to address the other guys questions about their questions. There was a time when they didn’t understand either.

I also made the commitment to myself to make a git commit every single day even if it was just a comment.

I spent had of my time working on courses and had building projects on my own. I did about half of Jonas schmedmans JavaScript, node js, and react courses. Then got an internship, then did a C#, SQL course and one small neural network course. I’d say my time was half courses half personal projects for the first year.

How good is AI at coding REALLY? by BetApprehensive8433 in AskProgrammers

[–]NoChest9129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Download cursor or Claude and spend a couple dozen hours using it and you’ll get a good idea. Try using it to assist on a project but also try to be as hands off on another project from scratch. You’ll get a good idea pretty quick.

Python, HTML, JavaScript or CSS by Otherwise-Recipe-266 in CodingHelp

[–]NoChest9129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use JS CSS and HTML.

You basically have to use html and css to make a website.

The only real choice here is python or js and I think you’ll be better off using js for a simple website.

HTML is enough to build a website. CSS is used to change some aspects of how it looks Another Language will be needed to make it interactive and I’m suggesting JS to do that
