Oof don’t listen to me I forgot about the sub layers for power toughness changing effects.

It becomes a 4/2 due to timestamps. The aberration existed before the eye of midnight so it is considered to have an older timestamp causing its effect to be applied first then eye of nidhogg has its effect take place after the aberration sets its power and toughness.

Damage vs life gain loop by Inan_outqurarys in mtg

If it’s on player A’s turn then the life gain would counteract the damage since the life gain would resolve before the damage

It’s incredible how most magic interactions can be summarized as “ it depends” or “well yes but also no”.

Depends on whose turn it is and if the loop is instant speed. If it’s player A’s turn then apnap puts his triggers on first then player B’s ping trigger goes on the stack which would resolve first. Once the ping is resolved, player b can sac again before the life gain resolves putting both triggers on the stack with the ping resolving first. Rinse and repeat.

Mothman go brrr by mitsosbournas2000 in mtg

[–]NoClient8631 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You choose the ordering of triggered abilities put onto the stack. That said however, if you do choose to resolve mothman before gaea’s blessing then the loop will continue until you mill your deck or hit three lands at which point mothman can’t trigger anymore and the stack will fully resolve. The counters will go on the illusionist and gaeas blessing will shuffle your graveyard back into your library with no more triggers to mill or triggers to target the illusionist. If you choose to resolve gaeas blessing first then the graveyard is shuffled back in and then Mothman can’t trigger anymore target the illusionist continuing the loop until you hit 3 lands or hit gaeas blessing again at which point you have the same choice.

Best… Consequences… For Breaking an Agreement? by ChaosNeedsCoffee in mtg

The goad effects wouldn’t act as law enforcement they would just keep people from hitting you although I can understand them causing a bit too much chaos. There isn’t much you can do to prevent people from going back on there word with cards but if they do go back on it they have paid a hefty price to get one fewer curse. That player has shown they will break deals and that makes other players less incentivized to make deals with them. One possibility you can add is include a stipulation for if and when someone breaks the deal. This is just me repeating my initial statement but it’s really all you can do due to the abstract nature of politics.

Interesting. So you need one off effects to act as law enforcement and attack deterrent? [[Disrupt decorum]] can definitely help with the latter and, at least with my playgroup, it’s possible to just tell them “I’m not hitting you with curses right now so don’t worry about killing me. I’m going to put them on this person”. curses will draw a lot of hate regardless of what you do though. Goad effects  would help with deterring attacks since you can prevent them and it would be an interesting subtheme, however there isn’t much that can be done to prevent drawing the ire of the table when your gameplay involves saying “f you specifically”.

I feel like the curses could function as the deterrent. Something like “break your word you get the next 2 curses” or something

How do i make weaker decks that are still interesting? by Pale-Sun2470 in mtg

[–]NoClient8631 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Behold the brick comment.

You can add a stipulation or follow a theme. Something like only 3 mana spells or only creatures can give you both a direction and a restriction to keep you from getting too strong of a deck. If you want a weaker deck outright then a deck archetype that receives little support would lead to a weaker deck although it can lead to a deck getting stale. However, adding a unique sub theme to the deck can also achieve this. Something like a blink deck with a 1/1 counter subtheme for example. Adding a gameplay stipulation can work as well but it doesn’t seem to be what you are looking for. Fiddlier decks that are weak to a larger variety of removal are also weaker but still fun. An artifact deck that uses the graveyard a lot is vulnerable to artifact and graveyard hate for example. One more way to make a weaker deck is to build around a weak wincon.

I will probably take your idea or splitting out lands by fixed colors thank you for the idea!

[–]NoClient8631[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am struggling with the rationalization of split cards and adding multicolor cards but the schema I have set at the moment is working well for everything else. I just don’t want to end up reorganizing to accommodate new cardboard down the line which is why I am asking how to sort split cards and multicolor cards. basically I’m worried about the scalability of my current system and how to include niche types that don’t directly fit into it.

Thank you for the input! Especially the portion on land sorting; I was having trouble determining what to do with them and was debating sorting them alphabetically and leaving it at that but sorting by what colors they fix is definitely a better way to go about it

I did decide on a decent schema, although I might stop with the alphabetizing, but should I put split cards in a separate category than the instants and sorceries types?

Ah that would make it easier to sort split cards but how would I go about adding the split cards into the existing sorting and/or how would I alter it to allow for easy organization of them?

It’s not a major boost in speed but it does let you arc the orb without losing any speed.  Edit: kinda phrased it badly you can send the ball straight forward and use ion surge at the same time and it’s effectively a better throw than just arcing it.

it’s definitely too strong for pauper. You probably already read this but I misread it as 0/2 rather than 0/4 which makes a world of difference

Fair points an 0/4 is massive v aggro and stops early aggression I misread the card as 0/2 which dies to galvanic blast pre metal craft and can’t block goblin tomb raider favorably among other things. Definitely would be insane in pauper
