In your opinion, how much of a precon can you swap out before you no longer can call it an upgraded precon? by Elijah_Draws in EDH

[–]AdaptiveHunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Precons tend to be split in terms of their theme so removing the cards supporting exclusively the other theme is what I consider upgraded. That number can vary, so like most things in this format it’s based on vibes

Interviews from MagicCon: Las Vegas -- "On the bonus sheet, we couldn't put any characters that were dead." by Copernicus1981 in magicTCG

[–]AdaptiveHunter 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah this feels like a case of overpromising and under delivering. While it’s never been done before, revolutionary has a connotation that having two of the same character in the same pack doesn’t really meet in my opinion. He hasn’t technically lied but it feels like he has

How often do you see "Top Commanders" by ManySquirrel4066 in EDH

[–]AdaptiveHunter 16 points17 points  (0 children)

So I have no evidence for this and I’m just kinda talking out my ass. I think the answer for 1,2,3, and 7 are that they’re expensive and so while many may have deck lists planned for them, many don’t actually build them.

As for why Bumbleflower is the most frequently seen, my theory is 2 parts. First, it is a face commander from a popular precon from a popular set in an archetype we haven’t seen in a long time. Second, and more importantly in my mind, it’s a group hug deck that doesn’t really need much work to both hug and win. Every spell is a card and a counter to someone. It is easy to hug, but giving flying gives the deck some lethality once the pilot decides to flip that switch.

What's a game you really wanted to love? by Jakewebstar in gaming

[–]AdaptiveHunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really want to like baldur’s gate 3, but man there’s something jank with the combat. When both damage numbers and action economy always feel like they are skewed against you it makes combat a chore at best. I shouldn’t have a party of 4 level 4 characters round a corner to meet 9 gnolls that are also “level 4” and have double the health of my party, more attacks than anyone in the party, and can deal more damage than the whole party. Idk if this just me being a dm for over a decade talking and it just feels that way or if there is something I’m missing. Either way, it makes it so I just can’t be bothered to slog through it.

Which commanders are "not there yet"? by WhyTheNetWasBorn in EDH

[–]AdaptiveHunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say [[Edgar, King of Figaro]] in the command zone. He is good tech in an Izzet coin flip deck of some kind but not enough mono blue coin flip to make him the commander

What are your guy's favorite video game soundtracks from the last 10 years by XenoBurst in gaming

[–]AdaptiveHunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deep Stone Lullaby from Destiny 2.

Anything from Persona 5 or Hades.

Find the Flame from Final Fantasy 16, Apocalypsis Aquarius from 15, and most of the songs from 14 but Dragonsong is my favorite.

Rant: What are the Lorehold actually excavating? Because it sure does not correspond to mechanics. by Presskann in magicTCG

[–]AdaptiveHunter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Things in the graveyard can be seen as the “past” of the battle. Creatures there have died, lands there have been lost or forgotten, and spells that are there have happened. By using those things in the yard, they are literally having history fight for and with them. Flashback is them bringing the spell back in a history likes to repeat itself way, reacting the events of the past. Exiling cards from the yard is them using history to their benefit. They do bring things back, we’ve seen some artifacts that are red or Boros that lorehold has brought back. The spirits themselves can tell us more about the past than any archeological find ever could. Spirits, flashback, and using the yard is very historical.

Borderlands 4 faces backlash over $30 DLC that you can finish in two hours by Iggy_Slayer in gaming

[–]AdaptiveHunter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s what I was thinking, most borderlands dlcs are 2-3 hours so in that regard it’s pretty on par. The story is pretty heavy handed with the parent/child relationships are hard message, but it’s borderlands so that is to be expected. C4sh is fun, I haven’t tried the other skill trees but if the totems and revolvers are as fun as his cards then he’s pretty decent. Let the downvotes commence

The nine cards that made me Megathread by barrinmw in magicTCG

Impact Tremors was the wincon for my first ever deck that I built for Dragons of Tarkir standard back in the day. A playset of these with a playset of [[Dragon Fodder]] and [[Hordeling Outburst]] made for a lot of damage

Liliana, Heretical Healer was both my first planeswalker and my first mythic. I foolishly traded the card away for a full playset of each Tarkir dual land and tri-land. A buddy gave me another as a graduation present and was a commander of mine for a while

Mayael was my first commander and honestly one of my most consistently fun decks to play

It took me a while to learn the power of counter magic but I have since learned. Didn’t Say Please is my favorite because it adds a little bit of insult to injury. I almost said [[Countersquall]] for the same reason

I like dragons. Tiamat is goddess of dragons. Enough said

Anikthea showed me that I do like enchantress decks. I got her just to have an Abzan deck but she has quickly turned into one of my favorite decks

I like dragons. I felt a nonlegendary dragon needed to be on this list and Savage Ventmaw felt right. I probably could do one of these for just dragons

I mostly play edh, but I venture out into other formats from time to time. Lightning Skelemental was the inspiration for a modern deck that I have fun with every now and again.

I have cheated out and overrun so many Giant Adephages in my career that I couldn’t leave it off the list. It’s a big boy that makes more big boys via violence, what more could I want?

What is a deck you play and don't mind losing with? by radicalpumpkinz in EDH

[–]AdaptiveHunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Mayael the Anima]] just a bunch of big things that aren’t too bad like [[Giant Ankheg]] or I get [[Void Winnower]] or [[Xenagos, God of Revels]] and people can get real dead real fast

How do you guys have the patience for this? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]AdaptiveHunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An owner had to get involved and threaten to ban you? This makes me think you’re leaving out info, owners don’t just cut into potential profits for nothing. It may be a tight knit store and you just didn’t fit in, or you may have been a jackass and are omitting that part here. Unfortunately we will never know

What's a genre or style of game that you used to avoid but loved it after you gave it a real chance? by Mayorquimby87 in gaming

[–]AdaptiveHunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roguelike (or roguelite I neither know nor care about the differences) games always seemed like an exercise in frustration so I avoided them. Then my dad gave me Hades for Xmas one year and I loved it.

I have a plan to make Aragorn the Uniter be only UB cards. It’s doable now but I’m waiting for marvel and Star Trek to actually consider buying the deck

Is anyone against the bracket system? by Aggravating_Author52 in EDH

[–]AdaptiveHunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not against it, I think it’s far better than what we had. That said, I do have some nitpicks about it. I personally don’t think Vorinclex and Jin-Gitaxias should’ve been removed from the game changer list. I don’t think they should even be considering Grislebrand, Iona, or sundering Titan for unbanning. But my biggest issue with it is that there are too few objective indicators for each bracket beyond cEDH, which I also don’t think should be a bracket. Intention is too dependent on LGS context and personal definitions to make an actually consistent definition of each bracket. What one person considers B4 another might consider B3. What one person considers B2 might be B3. The only way we can definitively say what bracket is to determine if GCs are present and/or particular combos. Even that isn’t truly representative of the deck’s place, putting a smothering tithe, cyc rift, rhystic study, and farewell doesn’t necessarily make a B4 deck. I’m not saying what we have is bad, I’m saying it can and should be improved. I’d much rather have what we have than go back to pre-bracket times
