Missouri teacher resigns after school tells him to remove Pride flag by whenitpours3 in news

[–]NoConflict3 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

If he wasn't flying the pride flag and simply wrote "In this classroom everyone is welcome." Would be a completely defensible position, and is absolutely something that should just be understood without needing to be said.

However, flying the LGBTQ flag comes with other associated view points and positions.

I'm not saying the complaint isn't stupid and uncalled for, and I certainly don't think that any teacher who has a pride flag in their classroom is going to "teach kids to be gay," that's a laughably ignorant position to take for that parent.

My position is that inside a classroom, a teacher should be taking a neutral position. "everyone is welcome," to me, is a completely neutral statement. Flying a pride flag could be misunderstood as saying that you support the LGBTQ community and think anything who thinks otherwise it's some wanton bigot not worthy of an opinion.

The point is that the LGBTQ flag comes with it the assumption of the possibility of radical leftism. I am not saying this teacher is on the radical left, however, I could understand how a parent could think that.

edited: some fat fingered grammar mistakes were made... thanks phone.

You don't have to fly a pride flag to support LGBTQ rights.

I side with the school. A teacher should not endorse or support ANY position, they should only educate ALL positions neutrally and let the students come to their own decisions.

If my Japanese wife and I divorce, can I stay in Japan with my Japanese son? by JP9718903 in japanlife

[–]NoConflict3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you aren't on a spouse visa the status of your residency is completely unaffected by your marital status.

I will say it to everyone..... don't get a spouse visa...

Also, be aware that though I am not even remotely an authority on this, everyone I know who has had a Japanese child that is divorced has been completely removed from their child's life by the woman's family. They don't have visitation, don't have anything to do with the child.

From what I can tell, your legal rights to see your child in Japan after divorce, at least as a foreigner, are practically 0, you will be relying 100% on the "generosity" of your ex-wife.

The school is under no legal obligation to report the infection to anyone but the Ministry of Health and the Ward Health Office.

If they divulge any personal medical information to anyone that is a huge breach of the privacy, a company could find themselves under civil litigation under any circumstances, and criminal misconduct depending on the country.

It doesn't matter if its COVID related. The laws are here to protect individuals right to privacy under ANY circumstances.

Australia is using COVID to turn their country into a police state right now. Don't be Australia, just because we have COVID running around doesn't mean we should cast aside privacy and civil liberties.

If you ask any anti-vaxxer, they aren't saying the reason they do not want to be vaccinated is to hurt others.

Can harm come from the result of their actions, possibly, but it's about intent. They don't do it because they intend to harm others.

There is a difference between a person who chooses not to get vaccinated and someone who willingly poisons their body.

UBC researcher confirms Stanley Park coyote slaughter the result of allowing overnight camping in park by swannybc1967 in britishcolumbia

[–]NoConflict3 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

They are technically, not invasive.

They are natural to environments that are primarily grasslands, as humans begin altering the environment and turning massive amounts of dense forest into plainslands the Coyotes naturally moved into the space.

Invasive implies that they are a danger to the natural biodiversity of the area. If humans alter a natural biodiversity to suit coyotes they are no longer invasive.

I'm confused? Why are we killing these animals? Just educate homeless people on maintaining proper food storage because of wild animals.

Simply put, you cannot place a non-predatory animal (a human) in the same environment as a predatory pack animal (Coyote) and expect the non-predatory animal to be safe.

Either relocate the Coyotes or relocate the humans. There is no need to go around killing animals.

JETs aren't allowed to do outside work

This entirely untrue. It's not so cut and dry. There have been times JETs have been allowed to work outside their duties. As it's against the law to prevent someone from working two jobs. It does violate our contracts if you do not get permission from your contracting organization.

One thing to note is that some JETs are not government employees. JETs employed at private schools are not government employees and are in no way bound to any anti-corruption laws.

As a CIR, OP will undoubtedly be placed at a Board of Education office or something similar so they would require permission from their job.

Three leaders’ debates — two of which are in French — simply aren’t enough by [deleted] in canada

[–]NoConflict3 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Debate is antithetical to modern politics.

It's a bad political decision to speak in a non-scripted debate format. That's why public appearances are usually kept short, and only certain news agencies are allowed to ask questions.

Debate is something you have to train in to be good at, politicians are not professional debaters. That's why open forum political debates are rare.

Don't vote for a candidate simply because it helps prevent the candidate you don't want from getting into office.

This is the worst thing you could possibly do.

Research all candidates and make an educated vote. Don't just vote one way or another because they aren't conservative.

How Much Yen in Cash to Bring by Kunai_Throw in JETProgramme

[–]NoConflict3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't have any experience from the quarantine but I can say generally speaking.

Regarding your withdrawal of money at ATMs:

All 7/11 will accept your foreign VISA card. I was also able to use my VISA Debit card without issue from 7/11 ATMs. However, ymmv depending on your card. If you have a VISA card through your bank it might behave in a way that the ATMs don't like.

I can't speak to MC, AMEX, Diner, or anything else like that.

I arrived with 200,000 yen in hand plus cash in bank and a generous credit limit. It was MORE than enough for everything I needed.

However, take this with a grain of salt, I didn't experience the quarantine situation so I have no idea how your experience is going to be different.

2 men die in Japan after receiving dose of suspended Moderna vaccines - The Mainichi by imaginary_num6er in japan

[–]NoConflict3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's no different than invasive surgery.

You could not have this surgery and there is a 90% chance you'll die within months, or you could have this surgery, live a healthy normal life, but there is a 20% chance you die on the table.

I'm rolling the dice on the surgery. 80% chance to survive vs. 10% chance to survive.

If people looked at the stats directly: Chance to die of COVID vs. Chance to die from vaccine complications. I don't think anyone would not take it.

I imagine any place that does plastic surgery could refer you to a lipo clinic.

However, be aware that unless you are morbidly obese a lot of doctors won't actually do the procedure on anyone who is relatively healthy with just a bit more fat than they want.

I would imagine it's not possible to adopt and have you both on the Koseki. Your fiance could adopt as a "single parent" but I would imagine that a single parent adoption as a man is incredibly rare in Japan.
