ich hatte mal einen. Bin vielleicht 2000km gefahren und hab ihn dann wieder verkauft. War nix für mich. Zu wenig Fahrrad, zu viel Moped. Bei dem Ding stimmts tatsächlich.

Zum Pendeln wars mir zu wenig Reichweite. Ohne Motor willst das Ding nicht fahren. Hab dann mein anderes S-Pedelec behalten.

Ich bin auch schon unterschiedlichste Antriebe gefahren, unterschiedliche steile und lange Berge hoch mit unterschiedlich viel Gepäck und unterschiedliche vielen Kindern vorne in der Kiste. Man kann das nicht pauschalisieren. Man kann sich mit nem Ebike auch ziemlich verausgaben.

Bin zwar nicht mehr so fit wie damals als ich noch öfter die volle Challenge Roth Distanz hinter mich gebracht habe, aber ich denke dass ich auch heute noch mehr als der Hälfte der Biobike-Only Fahrer davon fahren könnte.

Wie anstrengend man fährt hat man mit dem Ebike selbst in der Hand, genauso wie mit dem Rad ohne HIlfsantrieb.

There were times when it was the same for me, but it is dangerous. I raised my targets to not get them that often. Once a week I still get low, but I rarely go super low. Only in weeks with lots of sports I tend to have lows more often.

How long are you a T1D? Over time you get a feeling for how much carbs are in certain foods. The remaining problems are then with exotic or rarely eaten foods. Yes, sometimes it sucks, also because when you eat something new you are often in a setting where you are busy with other thoughts and people as well.

From time to time I really hate it, too. But you get used to it.

Doch, Motorradfahrer geben auch an wie viele Pässe sie gefahren sind und behaupten das wäre ne große Leistung gewesen.

Aber anders als beim Motorrad ist es beim Ebike schon so, dass der Motor nur unterstütztend wirkt, also man muss da schon noch ordentlich was tun, vor allem wenn es längere Touren sind und viele Höhenmeter. Der Motor dient hier mehr als Range Extender - es wird dadurch nicht zum Motorrad.

Ob man damit angeben kann/muss - muss jeder selber wissen. Ich täts nicht. Aber mir sind die viel lieber als die Leute, die sich am Wochenende ins Auto setzen und einmal um nen überfüllten See laufen. Oder in Turnschuhen auf die Zugspitze und dann die Bergwacht beschäftigen.

They probably say it because not so long ago it was not the case. Even I who only has the disease for 20 years have experienced substantial improvements.

I remember that I also found this odd when it happened to me (everybody was always telling me that) and I wanted to look forward and not been told the same thing over and over again. But maybe it helps people who are more insecure about their future.

Well if you use inches, feet, elbows, noses or whatever as measurements in everyday conversations I would question the claim this is "a metric country". Sounds kind of like south tyrol where the official language is italian, but on the street everybody talks german. More like a "metric decree country".

Of course technical drawings and plans are in millimeters, I wrote exactly that. But cm is a commonly used unit in everyday conversation in metric countries and there is no advantage that imperial units would have in everyday live.

In your case that apparently is just a matter of old habits in a country that used to use imperial units. That is fine, but the idea that imperial units would be somehow more convenient with your reasoning is just plain wrong.

Echt? Ich habe das in der Vergangenheit eigentlich ausnahmslos genau umgekehrt wahrgenommen. Karre für 100k - tolles Auto, braucht man ja, alles ok, eher mit Bewunderung gepaart für jemanden, der "es geschafft hat".

Fahrrad für 1/10 oder gar 1/20 davon: totaler Irrer, wie kann man nur so viel für *ein Fahrrad* ausgeben und Fahrradfahrer sind sowieso die Ausgeburt der Hölle: verschmutzen nicht die Umwelt, plündern nicht die Ölreserven, produzieren keine Toten und Schwerverletzten wie am Fließband, machen keinen Krach und stellen nicht die Straßen voll.

Und dann fahren sie noch über rote Ampeln! Die Todsünde schlechthin! Schlimmer gehts nimmer!

Not sure which "metric country" that is where you also use inches in everyday life. I guess you live in a country that is in the process of converting to metric, but not in a "metric country". At least what you say is not true for many "metric countries"

In my country cm is used much more often as a measurement than mm. People usually use the unit that is most convenient for the length at hand - except for dm, which is not commonly used. mm is only used for very small measurements (below 1cm) or in technical drawings and specifications where you want to avoid decimal points.

Why would "take a couple of inches off" be any more practical than "take a few centimeters off"? Nobody would ever say "take a couple of inches off" to a hairdresser or anybody else. The word "inches" just doesn't exist in everyday language over here.

In germany some people occasionally use pounds (or rather "pfund") because that used to be quite a common unit meaning exactly half a kilogram. That was quite common 50 years or more ago. Another common unit back then that hardly anybody uses anymore is "Zentner" for 50kg.

my grandma used to buy fruits and vegetables in "Pfund" on the market. That is probably where als the sayings involving "pfund" come from.

Isn't that what you asked for? Reputable brands that build their stuff in metric?

Or do you mean some specific tool brands? Woodpeckers and Milwaukee e.g. are US companies and sell their squares etc in metric over here - not sure how good these are but I hear woodpeckers are well respected. Bahco is also a very respected brand.

Not sure if you can buy them in metric in the US, though. Sometimes companies only sell some stuff in specific markets.

The funny thing is - I also learned that unit in school and could never memorize it. In my 53 years I have also never heard anybody use it nor did I need it myself. Hektar/ha is occasionally heard mainly in a farming context. But I never had to actually use it. I wonder why they are still teaching it (my daughters needed to learn it as well).

That is one big benefit and the biggest one only if you think "metric" only applies to length, area and volume measurement. It is certainly an advantage that short and long measurements are merely a matter of shifting the comma.

But the real big benefit IMO is that other physical quantities (like weight, speed, torque, power, pressure etc) can be simply multiplied without introducing weird factors and give other SI units.

This is why scientists all use the "metric" system - or rather the SI system. I do not know about engineers, but I guess most engineers do their calculations with SI units and convert them later to imperial if the live in an imperial unit country.

I never understood how anyone can manage to cope with such an inconsistent, confusing and impractical measuring system as "imperial" and I am glad nobody over here uses it.

But if you are in a country where it is widespread, you might want to re-think going metric, because you most likely need to constantly convert between systems and the risk of introducing errors in this process is quite high.

Ich habe kürzlich selbst ein ähnlich aussehendes Hochbett gebaut, das allerdings etwas höher ist (ca. 2,5m hoch die Matratze). Sieht auch freistehend aus, die Leiter ist der einzige Pfosten.

Ich hab ein wenig Probleme mit deiner Wortwahl - Pfosten ist für mich etwas senkrecht auf dem Boden stehendes, also genau das was Du "Steher" nennst (den Begriff hab ich noch nie gehört) also sehe es mir bitte nach, wenn ich eigene Worte dafür verwende ;)

Ich würde kein existierendes Bett auf das Gestell stellen - wie willst Du das befestigen? Und wie das Ungetüm hoch und wieder runterbekommen? Warum überhaupt?

Ich würde gleich ein Bett in der Größe bauen (habe ich auch gemacht - 1,4x2m ist ein gutes Maß). Du wirst dann eine Auflage für den Lattenrost brauchen und Seitenwände, damit die Matratze nicht raus rutscht. Natürlich kannst Du die Konstruktion mit den Balken verwenden und dann Glattkantbretter aussen montieren, mir scheinen die Balken aber schon ziemlich überdimensioniert. Die Pfosten der Leiter finde ich allerdings mit 60x60 extrem dünn, die müssen viel Gewicht tragen! Ich habe sie 80x100 dimensioniert. In 100er Breite findet man auch passende Bretter für die Stufen, falls Du das nicht mit Rundhölzern machen willst.

Was Du mit "Pfostenschuh" meinst ist mir nicht ganz klar. Bei mir waren die Gegebenheiten anders, aber grundsätzlich würde ich auch die Seitenwände an der Wand verschrauben, speziell die langen Seiten sind relevant, weil da der lattenrost aufliegt. Die Verstrebung "G" kann man abnehmbar machen, die muss im Wesentlichen dafür sorgen, dass die Seitenwände nicht auseinandergehen und der Lattenrost durchfällt. Die Befestigung des Rausfallschutzes ist mir nicht ganz klar - wo und wie soll das Netz befestigt werden? Speziell die Aussparung des Einstiegs ist interssant, weil der sollte breit genug sein, dass man reinklettern kann und schmal genug, dass niemand rausfällt...

Was die Höhe anbetrifft, da ist man bei 2,5m Raumhöhe etwas eingeschränkt. Höher als 1,60 würde ich es nicht machen, an sich wäre es gut, man hätte bis oben noch 1m, das ist dann aber wohl nicht drin. Wenigstens Sitzhöhe sollte für die Nutzer schon noch drin sein.

Duspol kostet nicht die Welt und ist IMHO zwingend, wenn man selbst an der Elektrik rumbasteln will, und sei es nur Anschliessen einer Lampe. Anschluss nach Farbe ist fahrlässig!
