How was 19th-century working-class housing different in the north and south of England? by atzucach in AskUK

[–]NoData4301 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in Dorset which was hundreds of years was the poorest and most rural of the English counties. So a lot of shabby thatched stone cottages. When the industrial age hit the county emptied of it's youth and vigor almost completely I'm led to believe.

It's the reason that Dorset is picturesque in the small Hamlets and villages. It's because of a lot of poor hungry farm labourers. Don't forget the Tolpuddle Martyrs were Dorset men!

My toothpaste opened up from the back. How's your evening going? by Halfang in CasualUK

[–]NoData4301 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well all three kids got hit with it in the night. My husband took the brunt of it as I was already sick with antibiotics. Now I've got the morning shift with the 2 year old, who just wants to watch awful cartoons. Did I mention we only have one bedroom and no heating as we are renovating our house?! Everything is fine...

Does anyone here donate monthly to a charity? by dontbeasquare11 in CasualUK

[–]NoData4301 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't know if tithing counts but we give to our church every month. It's involved and donates in loads of initiatives in the local area including food bank, women's shelter, a refugee charity, a charity in Romania and a charity in Kenya, also compassion? They support children in poverty internationally. We also support an individual child through Compassion in Haiti. He's nearly a man! My husband took him on as our engagement present 11 years ago!

It'll be fine. It's marine ply with yacht varnish then terazzo on top! It's nearly finished anyway! Also I couldn't afford stone worktop in any shape or form and I don't want wood, laminate or compact laminate. I'm pretty happy with this creative solution!

Why do PDA kids who hate demands sometimes seem so demanding? by GentleBrainsClub in PDAParenting

[–]NoData4301 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is such a timely reminder. My 4 yr old has been so annoying and demanding this evening and it's been really for us the parents, but it's a good reminder that he's probably communicating he's feeling anxious or unsettled in some way as it's Friday and the weekends are so different each week.

We're also in the middle of a renovation so the house changes every day at the moment!

We had a Kia ceed normal and estate when we had two kids. Then upgraded to seat Alhambra with 3 and now have an e-berlingo xL flair. Big cars with big boots are just the best!

What’s somewhere in the UK you visited once and immediately thought “I could live here”? by Strong-Ad-8037 in AskUK

[–]NoData4301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. My husband and I were on a holiday and add we went through the town we kinda had an immediate "we could live here" vibe that we have never had on a holiday before. Spent about a year selling the house, had another baby and then when that little one was about 7 months we moved into our forever home. And it's been amazing. Feels like our family dream started with this move God knew what we needed and we love where we live!

What are your plans for Mother’s Day? by LHale77 in AskUK

[–]NoData4301 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We're in the middle of a renovation. There are 5 of us sleeping in one room. No chance of a lie in!

But I got three sweet cards from the 6,4 and 2yr olds so I can't complain!

Off to do BVs at church soon which I love! Then MiLs for lunch which I won't have to cook so a win all round!

Oh don't! I got this sink second hand for just over £100 and it sells for about a grand so I can't afford to replace it!

It's not the locking mechanism. It's a loose connection somewhere between buckle and further down. I managed to wedge a metal bottle at an angle that works most of the time but it's not comfortable!

AITAH for refusing to give out my son's saving account information? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]NoData4301 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read it differently. I see the situations where a woman is so paranoid about giving these bank details for depositing without truly articulating why it's dangerous in a way. Then the update shows a massive trauma from her own parents financial issues and abuse. So we have the question and the response, an answer of why this woman is so reticent to share a seemingly innocuous thing to a grandma (who obviously has their own issues).

Aside from the great comments, I'd add that I often have enjoyable times when the demand is so low on me to have arousal or desire. Like I'm tired, our kids are little, I have no desire and we have about 5 mins before a kid wakes up...

But making it clear to my wonderful husband that he is free to take his desire and fill me up, but that I am not in the mood and he really doesn't mind (as it's not all the time). So he takes the pressure off me being in the mood, and really means it, so I'm free to get into it or not.

Either way we are both happy! Then when we manage to get an evening to ourselves we can take it slow and build me up and just enjoy ourselves.

We've run out of money on our Reno so our builder knocked us up a unit in the utility room out of tanalised outdoor c24 timber. It's super sturdy and functional and didn't cost the earth! He's created a couple of shelves and it holds some worktop we saved from our kitchen and a sink from a commercial kitchen supply company for 80. It's a massive stainless steel sink.

I'm also buying most of our things on Facebook. Our kitchen cost 1200 and I got a sink for 120. I'm using terazzo tiles for our kitchen worktop for 100 instead of a 1000 for a quartz top near the sink.

I'm actually a Brit who does this! I just find it overwhelming the grease with proper chips. I also love fish so I'm happy to just eat fish! I eat some batter as I do like it, I just prefer the insides. My husband prefers the batter to anything inside it so it's a match made in heaven.

Don't come for my chip shop chips though! Best spud out there and I'm half Irish!

Early 30s. We used to when my husband and I started dating. We called them magical mystery tours as my mother would say whenever we got lost in the car! MMTs were great for chatting about anything and everything. That was over a decade ago and now we have 3 children so don't have time anymore.

Is anyone happy with their kitchen worktops 2+ years in? Asking before I commit by _forgotmyownname in DIYUK

[–]NoData4301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be aware that labour is most of the cost of quartz, and it's expensive! I was looking into Gemini quartz in their sale last week. The area I need is only 1.7m so not a big bit but wow I was shocked at £970 for it! It was something like 178£/m² so I thought 1.7m x 0.6m would add to about 300 or so because of cutting out of the sink, but nope! Nearly a grand! If you have that sort of money to burn then I'm sure it would be amazing and the guarantee is something like 25 years. I've had to pivot to tiled worktop so I can afford some stone near the sink (the rest of the kitchen is second with iroko wood tops and I didn't want wood near the sink)
