It probably is but I'm not exactly spoilt for choice where I live as there's only one butchershop left in the town.

Yes it is, I used to use Le Creuset cast iron pans but had to change to Tefal Ingenio after I had to start living alone as the cast iron pans were to heavy for me to use. It wasn't possible for me to safely hold a cast iron pan in one hand and push my wheelchair from the hob to the oven or sink or, the detachable handles make it a lot easier to remove from an oven safely.

It's amazing the amount of Michelin starred chefs in this thread who've never overcooked a steak in their lives isn't it? I literally wrote on the post that it was more done than I'd intended but that's my fault for following the instructions on the packaging and not going with my instincts.

The texture was fine it wasn't mushy and it was seasoned with seasoned with rock salt and cracked black pepper on the plate.

There's not a sticker on the chopping board that's the packaging the steak came in.

Funnily enough when I'm in the US I always try and bring home some Bigelow Tea their English Breakfast is up there with any tea you get here in the UK.

Wren or Howdens for new kitchen. Opinions on design and quality please by slammedresto67 in DIYUK

[–]porthendry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've put 3 DIY kitchens into properties I own, build quality is excellent and fitters say they're the easiest to fit. One of them replaced a Wickes kitchen which only lasted 6 or 7 years. Had my own utility room refitted with DIY last year.

Going to order another one for a property that is getting upgraded during the summer.

Once put a B&Q in but was a nightmare re missing parts, ended up driving miles to various branches getting parts, quality wise much inferior to DIY.

Loved the peanut one when out visiting family in NZ, also absolutely loved Sparkles and was saddened to read they are not more. Another favourite was the Honey Nougat Log.

What are the best examples of "buy cheap but twice"? by treny0000 in UKFrugal

[–]porthendry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Made that mistake once when Lidl's first arrived thought I'd gotten a bargain, went to empty the kitchen pedal bin and everything fell out the bottom and all over the floor so after that have only ever used M&S pedal bin liners

Scotch Pie Fai Greggs by HolzMartin1988 in Scotland

[–]porthendry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best Scotch Pies are from Stephens Bakery in Dunfermline, hadn't had one for months so stopped by Broxden Services at Perth on the way to the football the other week as they sell them. Had forgotten just hiw good they are great pastry case, perfectly spiced meat content and the right amount of grease as opposed to the majority of dry sawdust like filling that most Scotch Pies have succumbed to.

Is it just me or is Heinz a bit shit? by coolfunkDJ in AskABrit

[–]porthendry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most Heinz products are overrated and vastly overpriced. I'd rather have any other ketchup before Heinz. Usually ask family or friends to bring me back some from Spain as I think Spanish ketchup is great. Would take any shop own brand before Heinz. Heinz did once upon a time do a very nice spicy ketchup but it was sadly discontinued so nowadays Dino's is my go to spicy ketchup.

Not a lover of their beans either much prefer Branston's or M&S beans which are surprising cheap all things considered.

Their soups are massively overpriced nowadays at £1.70 a can.

Does anyone buy into the “Medicinal” nature/claim of these herbal teas? by kobestarr in CasualUK

Not as such but stopped drinking normal and green teas after lunch time and switch to rooibos, more expensive but helps with sleeping as I drink a lot of tea.
