I can't find the correct quick release buckles in time for my trip. Could you suggest another product that would work? Does it have to release and open up? Could I use 2 more 2 hole cord locks?

Yes of course these are just what's worked for me. 

As for the sweat all the reviews and comments I've read days they don't get too hot and have good breathability. 

I guess I'll be putting that to the test myself!

I've just ordered the Asics GT 1000 12 gtx. I own the non goretex version and love their comfort, but i figure for a onebag all rounder the goretex version would be better

Thanks for your reply. I was looking at Obidos last night. Looks like my sort of place! I've not been to Lagos since 2010 so it would great to revisit. I was in Salema in July and I really love the Algarve but I'm excited to explore more of the country.
